I am answering here more to the earlier part of this thread, a trainers competence and his/her body.
I was told i should be a trainer years ago in my gym in down in Rotterdam. I certainly "looked like a bodybuilder", big muscles and lean. The women there thought i would be so good to train them. I was oke at it, but not good enough certainly i know now. Sure i knew a lot of basic stuff about proper form, diet, etc. but there was too much i did not know to be PAID to teach people.
I understand going to a fit looking trainer, but dont we all often go to doctors who look unhealthy and out of shape? We dont match there competence to there appearance even though they are
helping us with our appearance/health.
