PL Competition Prep

Is there a proper way to prepare for a PL competition?

For instance, how many rest days needed before the comp?

When should one switch from 5s or triples/singles?

Any thoughts, ideas and experiences appreciated.
 
When I used to do it, I would deload about 10 days prior. Sort of like how a marathoner cuts back mileage before the race. Keep your sets and reps the same, just use about 70% of the weight you used to. Then don't lift anything for 2-3 days before the comp.

Yeah alot of guys won't pull and take about a week off prior to the comp. I do the same thing for strongman.
 
OK. Thanks guys. I have a week vacation already scheduled before this meet so I may not be lifting at all for 7-10 days. Is this ok if I go a bit conservative with the weights?

bummer. My low back is still strained and I won't be able to get a deadlift workout in before my vacation which will put me at 3 weeks without DL. I don't want to take a chance and set myself back. I have a deload happening on wednesday which will give me almost 10 days rest. Much needed. Thanks for the help and support and I will keep you posted. I look forward to finding a full power meet in 2010 and giving it my all. Until then, I can work on getting stronger to help my chances.

its not so bad bro some PLers take 3 weeks off from deadlifting before the meet!
