Pic taken of me between pre judging and finals 9-22-01

Nicole,
Thank you very much for posting my pics.

Now musclecm,
Never give up your hobby of body building.
I started training when I was 30 years old. Due to a low back
problem. Soon I caugh the bug. It became my hobby. The first 5 years I didn't make much progress. I kept reading and learning how to train and EAT. The last 5 years have been very productive. My first show was the PowerHouse Classic in May of 2000. I was 165# about 4% BF hard and lean yet full.
There were 22 guys in the middle weights. My wife and I looked at each other and said "what the f**k 22 guys in my weight class". We came this far there was no turning back now. I did all of my home work and was ready to compete. Pre judging went well I was in the first call. I had to think for a moment "did the judge just call my number?" My night routine went well. It was to "We are the Champions by Queen. Remember I'm a little older then say all of these guys. When the judging was all over with I came home with 3rd place. I will never forget that show. It was great!
I just stared out at my wife (Debbie) and thought damn I must be fairly competitive for an old dog. She was smiling from ear to ear.

So, please keep your sites set on your long range goals.

I just did a final shave down for my last show of the season.
We fly out tomorrow morning for Florida. I'm looking forward to the show and a break. I think I hear a beach calling my name.

Thanks for all the props everyone. I'll let everyone know how this Ohio dog stacks up to the Florida boys when I get back.

Thanks,

Hello All,

I'm just back from a week of having fun in the sun. I spent as much time possible eating just about anything I wanted. Real food plus too many sweets and things. I only worked out one day. We walked 5 days for an hour. Everything else was just plain old lazy fun.

OK about the SouthEastern USA Body building contest. First let me say it wasn't pretty. This is the first time I had ever flown to a show and had to deal with traveling etc. It took more of a toll on me then I expected. I kept all of my contest prep the same diet, water, drying out etc. I show up at the weigh in and scale at
172 1/2#. The last 3 shows I just did I scaled at 174#. I thought this is strange. Then I look down at the weight in list of middle weights. 13 guys total. I'm seeing numbers like 175, 174 1/2,
176, 175 1/2, you see where I'm going here. everyone was bigger then me. I thought thats' ok but are they in shape? Are they taller then me, how hard are they? Well I'm here to tell you my worst fears were realized. 10 of the 13 guys were studs plain and simple. They were hard and grainy. Thin skin FREAKY.
I get the first number 38 of the line up of 13 guys. So, we all go out I'm way out on the end (i hate this area of the stage) we hit our quarter turns. I can see my wife very clearly looking at everyone like where the F**k did these monsters come from. She was thinking her man was the small guy. Always in the past I was the big guy. We do our 60 seconds. Everyone back out for the call out and I just learned what it feels like to not be in the first call out. Kinda sucks but you get over it quickly. I was in the second call out. Did my best and came up with 6th place.

My biggest lessen learned was I had just peeked for The Ohio two weeks before (placed 2nd). You just can't keep that shape for two weeks running. Many shows I could have one that night. Not a top level show like this one. Most of these guys were gunning for this show. I just wanted to do it before my vacation started. If I had gone the master route I would have placed very high.

I just wanted to let everyone know how I did.

Thanks for everyones kind words. Let the off season begin.
EAT< EAT< EAT,
Thanks,
kdtl61
