Personal Trainer Certification

Which one is the best if you do not have a college degree already? I just need to makes some money!!!!! Help a brother out!!

NSCA-National Strength & Conditioning Association. They are well known, and they are accepted anywhere, along with ACSM, which requires a degree to take. You will actually have to study for it though brother, as it aint a pushover test like ACE.

Thanks for the info- I have no problem studying for the test. I would hope to learn something from the process or it would seem a waste.

24 Hour will train you, quickly as well, but don't expect to get a job at another gym with their in-house training

If you follow the path of Exercise Physiology/Exercise Science at a college or a University you will have a degree that can be used for personal training.

I took the test for AAFA and scored higher than people in the class that had Exercise Science degrees. How did they get a degree without learning jack squat?

There are people who slack in ever field. Where did you take the AAFA test? And where did they go to school?

It was about 5 or 6 years ago, I believe at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. I don't remember what schools they went to. I think one guy said Texas A&M, UTA.

it's sounds like he has rocks in his head then...or he took the test after binge drinking. A degree is worth much more than an AAFA Cert.

My Univ. based most of the teaching ACSM guidelines which are the benchmark for gold standard fitness centers.

Its true that you can pick up certification quickly through 24 hour Fitness, and you will learn about nutrition, but I don't see too many trainers that have good knowledge of physiology.

I have an Exercise Science degree, and I just took my ACSM exam (I'll know how I did in a few weeks), and I plan to take the NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam. Those three things in conjunction will give you any job you want anywhere in the country that is related to fitness. Don't forget that getting just any old PT certification isn't going to equate to big money. Most gyms have certain certifications they look for.. ACSM, NSCA, ACE, and one or two others are typically accepted. NASM isn't bad. I don't know much about ISSA, but to my knowledge it isn't a toughie. And just because you have a cheapo easy certification doesn't necessarily mean you know your shit.. some people are smart enough to recognize that when looking for a trainer as well. This wasn't intended to turn anybody off or belittle them in any way.. just a friendly warning. Good luck with whatever path you choose!
