Pain in lower abs...what is it?

I think I am falling apart. I have a torn tendon in my shoulder and tennis elbow already...now this.

I was doing abs about 2 weeks ago on a ball and I sat up after I finished a set of 20 (weightless) crunches and I felt a weird pinching pain that caused me to jolt and curl my body towards my core. I got up and walked around and felt fine. I went home to get into the shower and I noticed a bit of swelling on the right side above my groin, just below my waist, and just next to where my leg bends (by the V that is formed in that section of my abs). Every since then I notice mild swelling, no tenderness, but random stabbing pains after abs. Is this a pulled muscle or did I do something else? From what I read it doesn't sound like a hernia as I would be in a great deal more of pain. I can lean back and everything flattens out but standing normal it looks a bit swollen. Thoughts?

Bad news bro....Sounds like a inguinal hernia. I had one back in March...It burned when it popped but that was all the pain I felt. Well until the Dr stuck his frigging finger up to the 3rd knuckle in my stomach. The surgery was easy but recovery sucked. He fixed laparoscopic surgery and the mesh patch... 3 weeks with no lifting but I havn't had a bit of pain or problem since. Get it checked out dude before it gets worse.

You think so? Everything I read said that you feel alot of discomfort. I haven't felt pain since the first day I did it and then I felt it again yesterday after abs again. I thought it was a hernia too at first but I am trying to stay positive about it...lol. The tingling pain radiates into my groin area and into my lower back on that side. I laid in bed last night pushing on the area trying to see if I can feel anything, if any certain place worsend the pain....and nothing....just a radiating pain out of that area. After the first time the swelling seem somewhat subsided a couple days later.

I'm fallen apart.

Ok, I don't want it to be a hernia but I am thinking it is so I made a doctors appointment today in the enxt couple hrs....I guess I will sson know. How fast did they get you in for surgery stantonz71?

I'll think positive for you Bro... I don't have experience with a hernia, so I can't comment on what one would feel like. But I have pulled things in the groin area, and have had sharp pains which were not hernias (as far as I know), as they took cure in a few days. From all I've heard, you should be able to feel a soft bubble where the pain is, if it's a hernia. It would be a small tear in the abdominal wall, where parts of the intestine can fall through. Also your spermatic cord runs through that crease, then bends toward the middle of the lower groin to the prostate. That can spasm too if pinched by a twitching muscle or if something is pulled, which has happened to me, feeling like kicked in the balls. The nerve branch from the testicles runs through the spermatic cord, which is why when we get hit in the balls, the pain is in the bottom of the stomach.

Stop doing abs bro. Until you fint out. Fuck me, you dont want to make a bad situation worse. I have a tiny tear right near the side of my belly button from deads last year. The CT showed nothing (didnt MRI yet) but its there. Healed on its own as much as its going to. I still did heavy rack pulls and leg work after it was torn. Never got any worse. I have to get it fixed this december.
Dont fuck around with abdominal tears.

This is Stanton
it took two weeks For me to get in to get it fixed. It started as a small swollen area about the size of a raisin and withing two weeks it was buldging out the size of a grape. If it makes you feel better place your finger over the swollen area and cough. If you feel it wanna come out then you know. Mine was right below my waistline right side of my pubic area.

If you have anymore questions let me know bid. I'm walking in the gym now.

Ok, the doc checked me out and said it isn't a hernia. He said it is located in the wrong spot to be one. It is just about the ______ ligament (he named it but I wasn't sure what he said) and not medial. It is literally the muscle you see that forms the V shape as you abs go towards your groin. He said it appears I pulled something and it is just irritated. He pushed on it, no pain, he had me cough and the hold nine yards, no movement, so he concluded it is a pulled muscle. He said come back in 2-4 weeks if it is still there and we will do a CT scan or MRI.
