Overtraining abs?

I think it was in one of the cheesy musclemags I read an interesting theory once. The guy proposed that the result from overtraining abs would cause them to shrink, which would be bad for any other muscle group, but for the abs/obliques it seemed like just what you'd want to acheive. I do abs almost everyday so I'm pretty sure that by definition I am overtraining them. But I want to be able to take shots to them without heaving. This probably didn't answer your question. Sorry bro I'm all fog headed from Sust flu right now.

Yes. Abs are not much different from any other muscle, if at all. The old logic used to be that because crunches and leg raises and such were not considered "resistance" excercises, you could hit your abs as often as you want. Not the case.

I do abs twice a week, but I hit them pretty hard. I don't feel the need to do more than that.

I'd be more worried about undertraining them than overtraining then...however I am more interested in function than form.

well, I train abs every other day, and I would like to know if there are any negative effects of overtraining of the abs? and if so, what would they be? I ultimately want my abs to not shrink, but I want to get rid of my GUT.

Exactly :)

i dunno really..most martial artist i know train abs every day..often twice a day. and they have rock hard abs. offcourse, it does nothing for getting a sixpack..i remember back in my teens i did 1000 reps of differenc crunches a day..i never got a sixpack..but nobody could hit me hard enough so that i would loose my breath.

I train them everyday, and have seen excellent results. I do have a 6 pack, so I can't argue with success.
