Opinions on some strength training books?

Anyone have some of these books, or has anyone read some of em? What is your opinion on them?

Super Joints by Pavel Tsatsouline

Renegade Training for Football by Coach Davies

Relax into Stretch by Pavel Tsatsouline

The New Power Program: Protocols for Maximum Strength by Dr. Michael Colgan

Modern Trends in Strength Training: Volume 1, Sets and Reps (Second Edition) by Charles Poliquin

The Poliquin Principles: Successful Methods for Strength and Mass Development by Charles Poliquin

Any of Dr. Squat's E-books

Any of Coach Davies' workouts from his website

Supertraining by Dr. Mel Siff - I don't have the money for this one right now, but when I do I plan on buying it.


If you know of a book that you think is better, please recommend it.
 
I find most books released, contain minimal information...compaired to the price of the acctual book.


The Poliquin Principles: Successful Methods for Strength and Mass Development by Charles Poliquin

This is quite a good book.....but most of his information is offered on the web (mainly t-mag.com) again the price really changes my opinion on this book. most of it pretty basic

I like the following: (yes most are avaliable from www.humankinetics.com and no im not sponsered...yet)

#designing resistance training programs by steven j. fleck and william j. kraemer (human kinetics books)
-Know why you use how many reps you do.....lots of study results and a tiny bit of basic physiology

#essentials of strength and conditioning by NSCA & thomas r. baechle
-over 600 pages...learn almost everything in one hit

#Periodization: Theory and Methodology of Training by Tudor Bompa
-its good to know how to lay out your training day by day week by week and year by year
Science and Practice of Strength Training by Vladimir Zatsiorsky


why do i like them?
they arent filled with bullshit that someone is trying to sell.
some are collections of studies.....all of them filled with quality applicable information.

Im just sick of everyone put out books with minimal information
 
See if you can find any by Anthony Ditillo..I think I spelt it right. I know he wrote a couple books in the 80's but they are still very up to date and good. He used to train at my gym until he died recently, the guy was a monster in his time and he really knew his shit.
 
I have Supertraining, its OK I guess, lots of research in there. Most of it useless to me

Don't read it much, and considered how much I paid for it, I guess a waste of money :)

Its pretty much a big reference text book on all aspects of training, but not as indepth in many areas - not an easy read for the average minded person, not to say I'm average minded...or maybe I am :mix:

The best strength training book I've recently read has been Dinosaur Training by Brooks Kubik. The "Renegade training" stuff sucks, by the way...
 
I'll look into the books everyone has suggested so far. Coolcolj that's why I was interested in opinions on supertraining, 60 bucks is a lot of money for one book. :) Thanks for the responses so far everyone!
 
The more I think aout it, all the info one needs is more or less on the web, and with a bit of futzing around that is all you need.

Most of the info in these books are usually referenced by web authors and are mostly outdated very quickly as new research comes out.

I mean you have basic principles, everything else is icing
 
Read through SuperTraining...didn't understand much of it.

Dinosaur Training is neat...but it isn't the gospel...

Read everything, every idea, theory, opinion, and try them all. Form your own opinions from those...and never quit learning.
