Opening legs easier than closing them

That's always been the problem with women.

Lol actually in all seriousness opening is harder, the side of my thighs hurt like fuck, the complicated part of closing them is having your legs spread. I hate that machine srsly.

Those machines do actually work to strengthen the adductors/abductors. Of course, squatting id more effective. But not everyone can squat.

Nan, is there a reason you dont free weight squat?

When you squat in a smith machine, your form is all fugged up because i believe youre not following the natural movement of a proper squat

holy shit don't squat under the smith, you'll hurt yourself...troo story

hip abductors...look up the millions of exercises for them
bb dot com has a library if a random google search doesn't help you out

hip abductors are very important for knee health

^^ what smurf said

if for some reason you can't squat the bar under free weights..do medicine ball squats, kettle bell squats, goblin squats...something other than the smith

LOL @ bishes discussing what works and don't work in the gym, what a fucking joke. Squatting does indeed tighten a women's pussy tho. Real talk

I've heard such mixed things about the smith machine, even here on EF, some hate it some praise it.

Seriously tho nan, Smith Machines are good for isolating and sculpting particular areas in a muscle. I use it a lot for legs and even chest on some exercises. I'd say its not something a typical gym rat would get any use out of because it will almost certainly be used incorrectly. The fixed ROM of the bar will get you hurt if you do not know wtf you're doing. Real talk

what mixed things have you heard about the smith on ef

it doesn't allow you to follow a natural pattern of movement for pretty much anything
I do use a smith for "donkey kicks" and that's about it

Now see, this makes total sense, I totally agree. Most of the time you see some twerp overload the smith machine and do so funky version of squats or shrugs.

this.

A smith machine is a quick way to jack-up a shoulder or knee due to how it restricts motion into a linear path. Lifts that have a distinct power arc (i.e. bench, military) should be avoided.

What it is good for, however, is small displacement movements like shrugs and calf raises. For small central angles, the arc is reasonably well approximated by the chord.

When I first started lifting I used the smith machine often. Squating was always awkward. The angle made me feel like I was going to fall down.

I don't have the stability or form to squat stand alone

can just do prisoner squats...no need for the bar even

also...I bet shes wearing some sort of shoe with a lousy heel toe offset for squats...which sets you up for destabilizing

I left you a msg like an hr ago...but Im going to bed soon so disregard

sending it here because yes, your pm's must be broke

I love smith machines!
I do curls, squats, military, bench, abbs, lat pulls, hamstring curls, pull ups, shrugs, calf raises, incline bench, tricep skull crushers, tri extensions. I am basically in the smith machine for 2+ hours. when I leave the gym there is like a line of 6-8 people waiting to use it. I think it's just because they are so versatile, or the peps see me in there and they ALL want to look like me!
