Okay, This Pissed Me Off

Personal rant here. I'm not sure who's interested but it says something about the people in this industry.

When I first started working for some of the mags I looked forward to meeting a lot people who had a long standing reputation in the field -- JUST TO FIND OUT THEY WERE TOTAL ASSHOLES. (Anthony will concur with this I'm sure).

Anyway, a few years back I did a piece that was to be a "before and after" segment when the editor (who looks like a weenie) asked me what kind of shape I was in. I was already in my 40's and I told him "TERRIBLE" -- it had been years since I juiced but more impotantly, my dad was dying and I had to lay off all training and take care of family matters. I was sick and stressed. I dropped from 195 to 175.

I took the "before" pictures and afterward got myself back in shape. I even placed in the NPC. (My pics were on my website which has recently been shut. I have to upgrade one of these days). Anyway, that editor and myself went our separate ways after I felt he wasn't being forthright with the readers and some of the supplements he was selling were totally bogus.

So what happens? I just found out one of his "writers" steals a story of mine, takes credit for it, and even takes a swipe at me in the process. Then this prick editor posts that BEFORE picture of me when I was sick with a dying father to make some bullshit point that I'm some sort of phony steroid expert. On top of it all, he adds a blue light which washes out any cuts I actually had.

I mean, it's just so low and unnecessary but this is how threathened some people get and will stop at nothing to try and destroy someones reputation for no other reason than they disagree with them. They have to steal and concoct falshoods to make themselves look better. Not surprising since they have nothing going for them but their ability to lie.

Okay, rant over. Sorry if it sounds angry but....

Well, its analogous to the pic AR POSTS of bill roberts right? I guess it sucks that people are out to destroy others. But, welcome to business.

By the way, I have never been a big fan of yours, mostly because I like mac and Ulter so much. But, you are growing on me. I hesitantly followed your calves training advice and HOLY SHIT!!! After three weeks I am still sore as hell and my puny calves are growing. Thanks for your input.! I am considering that diuretic/water loss product that you are pimping.

Fair enough. But I do think it's one thing to call someone on their arrongence by showing them as they really look than to actually steal from someone then put them down by showing a picture of them when they were ill. Come on, there's a difference, but I don't expect sympathy. It just kinda sucks, ya know.

Glad to hear the calve routine worked. Most guys who try it never work calves any other way. (There's no need to).

I think you'll like DEFINITION too. Use a double dose twice a day for serious water retention.

.

I'm not out to destroy Bill Roberts. What the hell???

I just posted a pic of the dude. I don't think I've ever said anything bad about him, to be honest (not that I remember). Posting a pic of a guy is my being out to destroy him?

But for every asshole I met and discarded immediately from my life, I probably met a lifelong friend when I met someone else in the industry. It's worth the trade off...

What I've found is that there's no middle ground, honestly.

I'll agree with that. I've met some AMAZING people and feel lucky to have done so. Dan Duchaine, Mauro DiPAsquale, Dave Draper, Dennis Weiss, Bob Kennedy, Jack LaLanne, Aaron Maddron, Dareem Charles, Victor Martinez, Don Howorth, Eric Serrano, and many others who are all great guys as far as I caan see. But it's true, the ones who are dicks are really full blown major league scumbags.

Pardon the bad grammar. It came out totally wrong. I just referred to the pic you posted not necessarily being a "guru" at his best. The picture said a thousand words though.

When I said that people were out to destroy others, I was referring to what was written about nelson.

The misunderstanding I will blame on the ECA and albuterol that is scrambling my brains right now. My bad

thats messed up, i know this sounds juvenile but i still can't see why everyone cant get along, i have never wronged or been desrespectful to anyone in my life who didn't deserve it, i dont see how it makes people feel good

This industry (supplements, writing in this field, Bodybuilding) is corrupt and sleazy as hell.

Why doesn't the IFBB have fucking health care and a 401k for their athletes???
Why are half the "steroid-authors" badmouthing or attacking each other, all over the 'net?
Why can companies disguise ads as "articles" and buy 10 pages in a row in a magazine?
I could go on and on....
How can the NPC allow Judges to be Trainers also...and let them have clients in the same shows that they judge?

It's interesting how they exploit Charles Poliquin for his reputation -- meanwhile, they fired his ass.

I hate those aritcle/ads. I am thinking I am reading some new independant study on something new and the last page is thier product. BASTARDS!!!!!

Who's that? Bill Roberts?

By the way, I don't think someone has to be a monster to know what he's talking about. It's the arrogence of some of these guys with which I have a bigger problem. And of course, if they're doing heavy cycles and look like average Joe -- well, that says something, doesn't it?

I'm not going to comment on his ...err....physique...but where exactly does one get a sleeveless shirt that zippers down the front?

this seems to happen constantly on the boards, I can imagine the rest of the industry is the same
everytime I say something that goes against what people are trying to push or sell, usually without people knowing thats what they are doing, I get hammered by the "sellers". And funny thing is I never claimed to be an expert, I can only comment on whats worked for me, to get as far as I have, which is nowhere near where I want to be

Honestly, I don't get too worked up when someone suggests an alternative to something I think is good...questioning the status quo is always welcome...but then you need to come up with an alternative solution that's actually better than the status quo.

I agree, I have learned the most and made the most gains going against the status quo...from everything to cycle approaches, to the amounts and length of time I can safely run things....
I only get worked up when people fling mud at others, not to advance anyones knowlege of this game, but to advance their own pocketbook

Sometimes what's being "sold" is simply a point of view. Lyle McDonald didn't sell supps, but he wanted to be regarded as an expert in fat loss (ironic since he was kinda fat). He liked the "theory" of losing fat using ketones and that was his shtick. He then went about appealing to the internet geeks who were all about scientific facts but clueless as to where the weight racks were. I think Lyle was honest, just wrong. But his hubris wouldn't allow to any other opinion than his own. Nevertheless, the "theory" caught on and people swore by it. But of course, it never worked. Whoever lost weight using the ketogenic diet did so because they simply ate less calories without even realizing it.

Keep in mind also -- some people said that creatine was baloney when it first came out. 20 years later it's still around. What works, works.

true, I should never under-estimate people's need to feel important... the internet offers people a never seen before opportunity to create who they want to be...
that being said, its also a great source of knowlege

I think he looks fine, actually. He's not too huge, but I doubt that's his goal. He's also like 6'4", so he is likely much heavier than me without looking like it.

The best infomation is like a good team -- a combination of old pros and young talent. You need visionaries and you need vets. Of course, some old vets are just stuck in their ways and some young talent are just flashes in the pan.

Yeah, TC gained 10 pounds on every new supplement they came out with. I used to get Biotest stuff for free and I can say honestly, it all sucked except for the OLD Tribex when it had avenacosides (the new version does not) The MRP wasn't bad but I didn't like the tatse of it so I gave it away.

Man you bodybuilder guys are a bunch of bitch ass whinny motherfuckers. Everything is always happening "to" you and nobody accepts any responsibility for their own actions. I swear, you'd think half of you guys were on your period. Take a fuckin' Midol.

Hey guys, this is my first post in over a month and I just thought I'd take the opportunity to lay some smackdown. Of course I'm only kidding. I just was jonesin' to flame someone and this was the 1st thread that I opened (Nelson don't think your special or anything.lol) Anyway bro, that really sucks. If it makes you feel any better this isn't the only business where people are such backstabbing assholes. However I do think the fitness industry itself breeds the human sharks much more actively than most.

Something that amazes me is when your competitors(who a very likely to be your ex business associates/partners) go out of the way to take you down, even when it doesn't elevate them in any way by doing so. If they were to put the same thought and effort into improving their own shit, they'd most likely be much better off. Yet these egomaniacal, self-serving, neutered-hyenas will spend hours upon hours fabricating attacks on your credibility , stealing your ideas, twisting your quotes, and shamelessly attempting to capitalize off of your name (positively or negatively)as much as possible long after you've parted ways. It's almost like nobody has any sense of pride or imagination anymore. Everybody steals everybody else's ideas and there's no such thing as guilt. It's like no longer is anything taboo and the low blows are dished out like flapjacks on Sunday Morning without hesitation.

I'm presently the new kid on the block as a personal trainer in my gym. The other trainers are so jealous and catty I feel like I'm working the prime shifts at the biggest titty bar in town. It reminds me of when Nelson first came on here. He didn't exactly get a warm welcome. I was impressed how he never broke stride(unless he's pussed out in the past month while I was on my hiatus?) when people attacked his credibility and in time I found his posts to be both interesting and insightful.

Anyway , I can totally relate to how you feel. In the past 3 months I've gained a decent PT clientele and I just had a couple clients place well in the state BB championships. I'm as busy as some of the trainers in the gym that have been there 5 yrs. Anyway, almost every night of the week some asshole throws away or steals my business cards and flyers off the gym desk. A few of them told people that I wouldn't last 1 month-not knowing that I once owned a successful PT Biz from 90-95. Then there's the pencilnecks that runner/fitness/core ball trainers that tell everybody that I take enough steroids to kill an elephant to discredit my knowledge and accomplishments. 1 or 2 of the trainers are guys that I've known for 10-15 years that are cool, but even the chick trainers I don't know will throw me under the bus somehow every chance that they get. What ever happened to being a professional?

Anyway, my point being is that ethics and egos simply don't mix well in an industry where everything is so superficial. The way I see it, the haters are just telling you that you are doing something right. In addition, imitation(which can be in the form of plagerism) is the highest form of flattery. If some guy wants to put his "by line" on your article, simply put, "you must be the shit". Let him take credit for something that you wrote that he apparently couldn't write as well as you could. Take that as a compliment.

I say the best revenge is to not even give a shit. You have your own stuff going to think about. Fuck those people.

I've found that it's best not to have too high of expectations of anyone in the fitness industry, this way I'm never that disappointed in their characters when they try to dry fuck my in my ass.

Anyway, hang in their Nelson. Roll with the punches. You know you're not going anywhere and so do they. Continue as usual because obviously whatever you're doing seems to be working. Otherwise they would've forgotten about you by now.

Keep the Haterade flowin Nelson and don't let em see you sweat.

Fuck me. I gotta chill on the sugar free Vault.

OK, now I'm about to go dish out a long past due "Retard Alert" on some dumbass's "Dianabol - methandrostenolone - only" or "I need a source" thread. m/

If there were nobody advancing their own pocketbook, the truth of the matter is that most of the information out there would really be garbage. The information a professional, who is well-paid, and who can spend all day researching and writing articles, is a far cry from the crap that is put out on the forums all day by amataurs.

Compare the profiles on steroid.com, MesoRX, Isteroids, steroidsprofiles.com, and sites like that vs/ the information you get for free on forums. There's no comparison in terms of research and quality. Volunteers and amateurs don't produce the level of work that professionals do.

Androsol..... that sums it up perfectly. If you add up all the new muscle he gained from each product, he would be over 300 lbs with 4% bodyfat.

And that time he wrote "I might not be the biggest person, but I am the last one that you would ever want to mess with...." That pretty much told me the state of his delusional mind was never going to leave La La Land.

The man is a complete joke. I rank him right up there with Jeff Summers.

Nice! You are too much bro! You dont want to destroy them/him either, do you? OMFG I am laughing so hard I cant breathe!

Quick points.

Androlsol-- worst "supplement" to ever reach the market. Practiaclly made me dick fall off.

beenieman-- calve routine has been sent. Anyone else who wants it, let me know. (And if anyone has the ab routine, let me know. I can't find my own ab article!)

It's true, that you don't want to leave the tides of information to amateurs. Anyone can have good insight and we see it all the time on this board, but there comes a time when we all have to concede to those who are more qualified in a specific area.

As for the pic of Ulter being the same kind of character assasination, I have to disagree. Okay, maybe he's not in the best shape. But still...this is a guy who made his rep essentially "hiding" from the public. He gave the impression he was a bad ass hardcore expert. He gave horrible, irresponsible advice to newbies. He was an ABUSER of steroids and flaunted that fact often. Now if you're just a "fitness" guy, it's fine not to look like much as long as your advice is good. And if you're a hardcore maniac who juices non stop but looks like a freak then at least you live the life. But you can't pretend to be both and be neither.

I don't want to destroy anybody! What the hell?

However...I would like some accountability, and some honesty, to be frank. Check that T-Nation thread. They have 3 steroid authors listed in it...only one (me!) has a picture posted...

I think that's not a credible route to go.

I don't look like anything special in my pics...but I'm willing to be held accountable for it:

And if you're wondering...the girl doing the leg extentions with me in the background...is my editor. She is formally on my payroll (A.Roberts, LLC), and perhaps one of the brightest girls I've ever met (Sports Medicine degree, and NPC State Figure title).

What about Rick Collins? He thanks you for input in Legal Muscle and the guy is a class act, his book is a work of scholarship, unlike some made for money, half-ass e-books that are the equivalent to a low budget B-movie with a fancy attractive jacket/cover.

I'm sure Nelson didn't mean for his list above to be all inclusive. He has, more than once, mentioned Rick to me as a good dude...as well as many others (Mutual friend Alwyn Cosgrove, for example).

anthony roberts,

you are taking shots at macro but why dont you speak the truth about yourself. If I am right, which I am not sure I am, macro has a PhD in chemistry and what school did you go to? You are harping on his knowledge but you read a few books in jail and regurgitate what you read and pass it off as your own.

And lets be real man, you say you train and coach elite level teams. But you coach a CLUB rugby team at seton hall. And now you push for your these OTC supplements over clomid but you have said in many previous posts how clomid helped you out tremendously.(if anyone wants PM me and ill send his posts)

this board has way too many people trying to pretend they are something they are not. Such as posting fake pics, pretending to have medical degrees, going to certain schools etc.

Well...you actually are wrong about all of that, except that Scott has a PhD, I guess. I don't coach Seton Hall...I went there. The kids I coach were ranked as high as 12th in the country last year. That sounds elite, doesn't it?

Clomid helped me whan I was like...early 20's. I think there's a better way now. I'm not married to my old ideas.

Also...you forgot to mention that Scott has been designing supps since before I even did my first cycle, and my sales kill his now. What a joke. PhD? Useless.

I'll probably start juicing around age 45
I've done test at 300mgs/week for about 10 weeks in 2001
and a couple of other test "cycles" of 6 weeks back in 2003

What about Rick Collins? He thanks you for input in Legal Muscle and the guy is a class act, his book is a work of scholarship, unlike some made for money, half-ass e-books that are the equivalent to a low budget B-movie with a fancy attractive jacket/cover.

Yep, Rick's a good bro. Great book. (A MUST actually). We stay in touch. Alwyn too, though we haven't spoken in a while. Didn't mean to slight anybody. I'm sure there are many others, but I'm not out to drop names. Just to say, some guys are genuine and others are phoney, ya know?

As for Macro, or this one or that one having a degree in chemistry or whatever -- I think that's been the biggest problem in the "post Duchine" era. There's more science, but there's less common sense.

Everybody is talking in theory and falling in love with theoretical concepts that SOUND good but just don't pan out in the real world. But if you're a geek who just wants to sound smart it's very appealing. But as Dave Draper says: "You can talk ketogenic, glycemic index, nutrient partioning, super isolated fraction receptor bromocriptine shit all day long. I'll be at the gym. It's leg day."

I never claimed to have any degrees in pharmocolgy and refer to those more knowledgabe in that area. But I'm pretty well read, have a ton of experience, have worked with and learned from pros and try to use logic and common sense and present it in an entertaining light. I've had people lambast me for my lack of credentials, meanwhile half of them are out of the game, in jail, or look like they can't find a barbell with a seeing eye dog. Hell, there's more useable information in the Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension course than in 90% of these so called scientific tomes put out by know-it-all kids with fat asses.

Just wanted to say there's another guy who happens to coach a CLUB rugby team...Tim O'Brien...he only won the first ever national collegiate coach of the year award this year... Quit being an ignorant Douche

anthony roberts,

you are taking shots at macro but why dont you speak the truth about yourself.

Such as posting fake pics, pretending to have medical degrees, going to certain schools etc.

what I thought
not to mention wearing a sleeveless shirt to a high caliber restaurant
High caliber meaning everyone wears a Desert Eagle .50 on their hip? Hell, I don't even wear a shirt to a 5 star restaurant. I just walk in wearing a pair of soccer shorts and construction boots and seat myself at some random couple's table. If the restaurant manager asks me to leave I just hit a most muscular and scream roid rage. If he doesn't have a heart attack or curl up in a fetal position on the floor from that, I bite off his pinky finger. I tell him his thumb is next if he doesn't bring me a peppercorn rack of lamb and garlic mashed potatoes, pronto. Works every time and they usually give everyone else in the restaurant their meals for free. It's a win win situation. I don't follow the dress code. Diners get a free $50/plate meal. I should be president of The Diners Club.

Fag can be a slang term for a cigarette in Europe ya know???

Cum guzzling ass spelunker is a much more efficient term for a homosexual-it's meaning will never be questioned.

Thank you...

I coach a small federal military academy...under 1k students, and we were ranked in the top 12 in the nation this year. That's pretty decent, I think.
I coach my sons 6-8 year old coaches pitch baseball team, and both of my sons mites hockey teams, that shit is alot more work than you'd think.......

It's a lot of work to be good at anything. When I came on to the staff, 2 years ago, we were an under .500 team in our division/Union (D1). Now, for 2 years running we haven't been beaten in our Union by any teams, and we've won almost every collegiate tournament we've entered.

It's not easy, and the pay isn't great, but it's total garbage when someone comes along and tries to belittle it....

That is because you havent played CAL! Go Bears!

just kidding. Congrats on what you have accomplished as a player and a coach. A lot of people misunderstand the "Club"systems.

CAL is national champions for like the last decade, for anyone who doesn't know.

Honestly, their system is far advanced beyond what I have. They have full time, year round staff and coaching, and give out Scholarships. Their team, to be honest, is Super-League level (they scrimmaged a super league team last year and won). No other collegiate team has got the comittment or resources to really give them a run for their money, I think.

But everything is relative, I think. A good University team (Otago University, for example) from New Zealand would likely blank them pretty easily.

I've heard it said that a good/decent D1 club side from New Zealand (East Coast Bays, for example) would beat the national super-league champs from here...but I don't think that's always true.

However, I believe a good D1 mens club would trash a final 4 level collegiate side, if both were at full strength.

Here's a good video of some collegiate ball:

damn, I remember that calve routine, it was crazy intense and man did it make me sore

I have been fortunate to meet a lot of people in our industry. From writers, to guru's, to IFBB pros in bbing, fitness & figure and so on and so on.
All of my experiences have been positive so far. I have made great friends and had great times.
Of course I could choose who I wanted to speak with and who I didn't. I was not under any obligation via a job or anything else to speak with people I did not want too.
I think it is like the cross section of regular society. You will always have your douchebags and cool people.
