Obvious thing is to switch doctors.

As for insurance not covering .... I am thinking that if it going to impact her health SO considerably ... it is worth the extra expense.
This lady is always bang on. I have no clue why a Dr solution to insulin problems would be the pill. If anything the pill will cause her to gain more weight and put her body out of wack even more. Get a second opnion for sure. If she can't afford a nutritionalist some good low carb style recipe books are south beach susan summers and I think there is a body for life cook book out now too. Also do some net searches for recipes and low carb style diets. I believe there is websites for diabetic as well with specfic diets etc.

Very true QT - there are loads of books out there. Not only on "diet" books, but others too.

I did a quick search of www.amazon.com and there are several books on dealing with PCOS and the nutritional approach. Just do a search for 'PCOS' on Amazon and see what you come up with.

I hate to say this, but not all BC pills force women to gain weight. Although blocking the insulin out of her body may serve a good purpose, she has lost her menstruation completely. It's not a light subject and it may affect as well as reflect other extreme problems in her body. She was born a very ill child and suffered her entire life. I don't mean to begin a pity party here, honestly. I just know she reads these things and she'll consider dropping the pill again. She has tried this approach with a low carb (also low cal) diet twice and her menstruation seized both times. She can't let that happen again.

I agree 100%. Actually, when I went OFF BCP I started to gain weight. I actually find it is easier to lose weight when ON BCP as well as the fact that I retain less water, no PMS, no breakouts, etc.

After this baby, I am going back ON BCP for that whole reason. And add the fact that I hate condoms, But that is a whole 'nother thread.

Again, that's why if you are on a pill, its important to find one that works w/ your own body chemistry.
