Please throw them into the garbage can now.

Also, into the garbage can (figuratively speaking) are bodyfat percentage "equations" which take skinfold measurements and divide them by the square root of pi and the numerology value of your mom's maiden name.

You do need to track your fat loss progress though. You need that encouragement and ability to monitor the efficacy of your program.

Buy one of these:

Slim Guide | Power Systems

or some other reasonable quality caliper ranging from about $20 to $60.

Then, check your abdominal and leg skin thickness per the devices instruction manual. Maybe have a friend check your upper arm number.

And then record those numbers in your training journal.

DON'T plug them into some arbitrary equation which is supposed to magically spit out the numerical representation of your true subcutaneous bodyfat percentage.

And this very simple, 2 minute procedure once monthly will give you a better idea of your actual fat loss progress than the bathroom scale or the Dr. Struther's Uber Accurate Bodyfat Equation.

This is funny, me any my scale have a love hate realtionship!! My boyfriend laughed at me when I got on it once and apparently made a face that "looked like I wated to fight it"

I used to be obsessed with the scale. Now I step on it about once a week....Though I do get a little bothered when my husband tries to sneak a peek.

I stopped using a scale in high school when I realized it was making me completely insane........over the years since then, even at the Dr's office I would tell the nurse NOT to tell me what I weighed. The first time I have actually weighed myself in soooo many years was a couple of months ago when I started working out seriously. I still pretty much avoid the scale, but every once in a while I step on it just out of curiosity. It doesn't freak me out anymore since I am seeing such an improvement overall.....

Western women unfortunately tend to be indoctrinated into the cult of skinny, with the bodyweight scale being the doorman. The doorman gets to decide if we get into the cool club or stand outside with the peons.

Trouble is the bodyweight scale pretty much sucks at indicating the reason for the weight change. It is food, fat, muscle, water?

Duuuuuuuuh I don't know.

So why do we listen to this dufus?

It's just the programming that starts when we're so damn young we can't intellectually evaluate the message. By the time we are old enough and smart enough to question the Scale 'Ol Mighty that message is stuck in there deep.

Just let's just ignore the bodyweight scale, my sisters in iron.

Amen sister!! When the number on the box indicates your mood for the day....time to stop!! That was my clue anyway! :)

Just what I needed to read. I ate a T of soy sauce last night and gained 2lbs this morning. I effing hate that, instant bad mood. And I KNOW better than to let it bother me.
