Odd Shoulder pain - BB Bench

First off, this is my first post in a while, and actually, I just started back lifting a few weeks ago after a long hiatus since summer.

Anyhow, I hit the gym today, my 3rd chest day since I started back, and just like my last 2 chest days, I've started back light and slow; however, every chest day when I do flat bench since starting back, I have this weak ache in my right shoulder; no pain anywhere else whatsoever.

The pain is odd, though... it feels as if its in the bone just under the center of my upper right trap... It doesn't seem to be in the delts at all. I tried moving on to dumbbell, but it does the same thing... ONLY on flat presses, inclines are pain-free.

Thing is, I've never had shoulder pain in my life... wonder what could have caused this... is this the spot for the classic shoulder pain from benching? It seemed a little off target to me, which is why I made a new post.

Thanks for the opinions / help; regardless of the shoulder, it's good to be back!

:D

sounds familiar. is it your collar bone, or where the collar bone connects to the shoulder?

it's not a career threatening injury or even close. i suggest doing slightly lower weights with more reps and a closer grip. just come to terms with the fact that you're not going to be as strong as you were before for a while, so just take it easy. if this doesn't help with your next workout send me a PM with your symptoms and i'll think of something else.

Shit.lol...i was jsut about to post something identical to this..I HAVE THE SAME CONDITION..damn.,started few weeks ago. went away littl ebit but mine is more serious. it hurts fairly on all bench presses and other excercisses in the same spot you described exactly under the trap like collar bone type right where you have the FRONT DELT muscle, is this the rotator cuff? Dangerous? also when i swing my right arm in a circle i noticed that it cracks (as to i can hear it snap each time) all my joints are cracky and usualy crack lately but this one literaaly you can hear a block away? Any help or sudgestions are MUCH APRECIATED .

KARMA FOR ALL WHO REPLY:)

I have the same problem. I narrowed my grip and it wasn't as bad, but it was still there.

Try using dumbells, I promise you that you'll have no shoulder pain after with dumbbells.

the cracking and popping is most likely scar tissue. I'm pretty sure everyone who works out has that. Don't let the cracking bother you.

What kind of pressing movements do you do for shoulders?

Dumbell presses, and i might want to not do cable front delt raises either it pulls on this part the most for a while while going on a joint compound from Ulters store and also i will be going on soem Gh soon so should heal things up.

Karma your way bro.

just keep in mind that your shoulders get a lot of work when you do back and chest. so don't ever do it with the shoulder presses. and when you do pretty much any kind of shoulder pressing movement you are hitting your front delts pretty hard. So maybe you can ditch the front cable delt raises and stick with side and rear delt moves. Gotta be careful with those shoulders, I bet if you ran a search on the word "shoulder" you'd find tons of threads about peoples shoulder injuries.

good plan. and don't forget to train your rotator cuffs if you don't already. just make sure you do them last, since they are a stabilizer on pressing movements.

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to all I know to do to help heal this up, however, I'd still like to know what the problem is and/or what caused it. Anyone else?
