Obama=wimp?

Not really sure what people expect him to do in this situation. Its not like he can dive down and plug the hole himself.

People just want to blame Obama for everything...so, he's probably behind global warming and all of the crazy weather and natural disasters around the world as well.

Comparing it to 9/11 and using this disaster to drive cap-and-tax is way over the line.

I dont know about him using this to push cap and trade (which I think even lefty folks now admit is a retarded idea).

Obviously hell use this to push a greener agenda, but we need to get around to that anyway. Im still pissed they havent started that whole bullet train idea.

“In the same way that our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy was shaped profoundly by 9/11,” the president said in an Oval Office interview on Friday, "I think this disaster is going to shape how we think about the environment and energy for many years to come.”

Ok so he didn't say it's anything like 9/11, just that it will change policies. Maybe this time we won't have freedoms abolished or pass "patriot acts" to allow wire tapping and other fun things, that would be a plus.

Obama put Bush's wire-tapping rules on steroids.

I didn't hear him compare it to 9/11....I might not have made that comparison but the severity of what's happened cannot be understated. People don't fully understand what this is going to do economically to that region. I'm less worried about the environmental aspect because we don't matter to the ocean. The ocean will deal with this in the way it knows how...but it will take a ridiculously long time and that means that people living on the gulf coast are fucked. Even if fish do come back after some time who's going to want to eat anything they know has come from the gulf? I know I probably will not eat a damn thing that was caught in the gulf in my lifetime.

plunky, in terms of human life loss there obviously is no comparrison. However the negative impact on the ocean and gulf economy and culture will be felt for many many years to come. This is a disaster beyond anything our oceans have ever seen, just as 9/11 was an attack on home soil unlike anything we had seen. While I disagree with using it to demonize big oil, I just spent a weekend with a oil company lobbyist who detailed that bp was responsible for nearly 95% of all incidents of having accidents or breaking regulation standards in the last ten years (while other companies shared the final percentage). She gave actual numbers, I just don't remember them lol. I think something in that merrits a second look.

oh and red...if you don't think the health of the ocean affects EVERYTHING, you are sorely mistaken. But I won't rant about that because I know most are happy to turn a blind eye. But this will greatly hurt the economy in that region. Just last weekend I tried to order crawfish and was told that they were taking it off the menu because of the spill.

the ocean can deal with this, but in a very prolonged manner. I know it affects everything....but everything will eventually come back, just that we might not be here when it does...lolz. I've pretty much givin up on trying to convince certain people that taking immaculate care of our environmnet is a fundamental priniciple of our existence....it just bounces off so whatever. But what we're going to see here is that even economically, we are profoundly intertwined with our environment. And maybe it takes some folks losing "billions" of their precious little green paper for something to set it....who knows. :whatever:

It is also unfair to compare a planned, callous attack aimed at civilians with an accident that occurred in the pursuit of a necessary natural resource.

He compared it in terms of changing policy and shaping new policies, that is all in that statement...not sure the issue here...as I said, everyone is on a witch hunt for Obama.

Technically, we could be using alternate fuels by now, but god knows putting big oil out of business now would be "bad for business".

This whole country expects way to much from one person. He cant just magically fix the economy without spending money, or fix fix oil spills with the snap of his fingers, This whole effing country are filled with ignorant people. Its freaken retarted.

Yeah, apparently Obama should have gone back in time and stopped the pointless war we are fighting, came up with a plan to stop this BP spill issue within minutes of it happening even though it's really not his job, stopped the big banks from giving shady loans causing them to crash the economy-then he wouldn't have had to bail them out, no one is happy with health care on either side of the argument so that's a lose lose...but no, I guess ALL of the worlds problems are Obama's fault...

Its not about obama fixing everything in no time its about the perception of his strength as president of the USA

He ran on "hope and change". The ocean levels were going to drop and the Earth begin to heal by merely electing him. When expectations are set that high, he shouldn't act surprised when he falls from grace.

And what he's doing to the jobs market is 100% him. He's sending signals to employers that will hurt the job market for years to come even if he resigned tomorrow.

No it's not, people just wanted him to fail from the beginning so they are looking for EVERYTHING they can to bash him on.

Are you kidding? White trash wants him to fail thats about it. Everyone else views him as "too historic to fail" and are blinded by that, or he gets a pass from the media for the same reason (except faux news). Liberals wont criticize him on principal and conservatives wont criticize him for fear of living up to the racist stereotype.

LOL @ that being it. I know a BIG group of blacks and minorities here in MD that do nothing but say "Obama is terrible, he ruined the economy and I cant afford to get health care and blah blah blah". Just about everyone I talk to blame Obama for every issue we are having whether he had anything to do with them or not.

But he did mess those two up. What's happening in health care right now is a slow-motion disaster.

He didn't make the big banks give out shady sub-prime mortgage loans, he didn't run all of these other companies into the ground. He hasn't FIXED the problem, but he has a WHOLE staff of people that obviously haven't come up with any great ideas either. Health care was going to be bitched about no matter what, people wanted change in health care, they got it. Maybe people should have complained more about how doctors and pharma companies charge $200 for an x-ray, and $300 for an antibiotic or other medicine. If you didn't NEED insurance to be able to AFFORD an regular checkup, maybe there wouldn't be issues in the first place.

Obama is the consumate continual campaigner. When it comes to the hard action and hard decisions of actually governing either he just writes a massive check or balks, acts like the promises he made on the campaign dont exist (remember bringing home the troops and gay marriage?), "votes present" (before president) etc.

I dont see him mentioning cap and trade though.

And as I mentioned above, were gonna have to get rid of our oil dependency eventually (eg in the near future). May as well start now.

We're the minorities here in MD, don't get it twisted.

Actually the democratic party played a huge role in the housing crisis via the Community Reinvestment Act.

Where Barry is screwing up is by creating massive uncertainty around health care costs, labor policy, energy cost, debt/interest rates/inflation and corporate governance.

Faced with all these uncertainties, businesses simply aren't going to hire people. They'll hoard cash, outsource, cut costs and move jobs/markets overseas instead. If I had to take a wild unsupportable guess, Barry's probably already destroyed around 5 million jobs and in the process of destroying at least another 5M jobs for a very long time (at least a generation).

I "half" agree with you here.....my problem is that BP's record the past couple years is so comically absurd that I can't give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake made in good faith and in the pursuit of a necessary resource. If all oil companies operated like they do I would not be against the complete and utter discontinuance of oil as a source of energy.....and the use of force to enforce this policy if necessary. With their record and what's coming out from the platform workers, it's hard to call this "an accident". It was more like inevitable negligence.

well now, now that we have some context it's clear he's not comparing the two directly at all. It's pretty clear he's saying that the galvanized response between the two incidents will be similiar and in fact necessary as was the response to 9/11. What could you possibly hold against him here? He's 100% dime on the money.

Barry's MMS shouldn't have been spending their time surfing porn, doing drugs and taking gifts from oil company representatives.

BP's punishment...and well the whole oil industry by association....should be that the MMS gets staffed entirely with greenpeace hippies. They will be so sick of those people within a year that either they stop drilling altogether or they excercise such tight safety protocols that the hipsters can't say shit. Either way we win.

How exactly would we win with hideously over-regulated and unnecessarily expensive energy?

Is China not kicking our butts hard enough as-is?

You would be down with President Palin?

I don't like how she carries herself.

I also don't believe she has much intellectual capacity.

But she's right on a ton of issues. I'd much rather be dealing with a lightweight who is directionally correct versus a super-genius ideologue who is going in the wrong direction.

This whole government is messed up anyways, To many loop holes, and to many assholes. But that'll never change, Not with the fucken idiots that we have in this country.

^^^ This is totally correct.

We don't do government well. The only way to reduce the incompetence is to reduce to overall size of government.

Fixed for ya...Obama is fulfilling my prediction of a Carter second term. He has failed because he isn't an administrator and has surrounded himself with other non-administrators. Every successful president has recognized the importance of having people that get things done. As I posted before the election many times, he's a Chicago politician and that's how he has governed...he has a team Chicago politicians and not an administrator among them.

Agree 100%

Im fealing like the only way we can fix this is another civil war, which i hope is soon god damnt, with all the effing problems we have with this freaken government. Ill fight strong for all my rights. There slowly takeing them away, and then giving us shitty presidents that wont do a thing.

unfortunately we don't do free market well either, as is showcased by this spill. Let's all be keenly aware that while a certain branch of our govt. was viewing porn and taking bribes from the oil companies.....it was still the oil companies fucking up at the end of the day. I don't know if more or less regulation is the answer if we can't staff a govt. office with honorable people.....but the free market in this country is as defunct and corrupt as our govt. "and then some". I'm not about to listen to some argument that this oil spill proves that there should be no regulation at all. Without at least some regulation that we do have "ALL" the oil companies would be fucking off like BP.

A) Is it not ironic then that China is beating us in the push for green technology?

B) If you were someone living on the gulf coast you'd be thinking that hideously over regulated and unnecessarily expensive energy would be a better fit than that black soup you see comin out your southward facing window......the one that used to give you a beautiful view of the gulf.

Obviously there has to be a snap in the other direction in terms of regulation because it's obvious that up to this point folks have been fuckin up.

Yeah, China is a real bastion of environmentalism and clean industry.

Beautiful views can be restored. A devastated economy, mass poverty and lower standard of living lasts far longer.

No they're not, but they're working on it harder than we are which baffles me.

Interesting choice of words in this situation because that's exactly what the free market did to the gulf economy.....devestated it. Obama annoyed the shit out of me the other day when I guess he declared gulf fish "ok to eat". I understand what he's doing but I'm betting the hairs on my ass he ain't eatin no gulf fish in the white house.....like ever. He can be there for another 16 years and I guarantee the chef has standing orders that all seafood is to be verified "not from the gulf"...he fucking knows better. Just be fucking honest with us....it's worse than anybody's willing to admit and it's going to take decades to fix. That's just the way it is.

The Chinese couldn't give a damn less than anything directly related to lifting their people out of poverty and maintaining power for their political class.

Sounds like we both agree Barry is full of crap.

Not entirely untrue.....but they are still beating us on alot of technological fronts in actuality or in research. People are starting to head over to china for stem cell treatments.....seriously? And that one you can thank fuckbillyboy Dubbya for and no arguments on that one ok? Cause the Bush administration set back stem cell research 10-20 years relative to europe and asia.

Sounds like we both agree Barry is full of crap
.

On this business, for sure! This is the first time he's annoyed the shit out of me. All the other stuff with the healthcare and stimulus....that comes from a certain ideology that let's face it, won the election. The other side won the election in 2000 and promised all this good stuff and didn't deliver and/or in some cases made things fuck worse. Now the other side won and they want to do things their way....and their way could work or it couldn't...we shall see. But the gulf spill thing....I honestly think that his administration was covering for them as long as they could until it was clear things were getting "way" out of hand. The oil companies make sure that no matter who wins the election, they own a piece of him.....and Obama, in the end, is another owned boy. This isn't going to work for much longer.....we're either heading for socialism or state capitalism like China. Obviously the govt. is way too exposed to corruption from the free market.

Oh and all of you can kiss my ass on the vibrams. I'm in a very fundamental part of the country for the summer and the gym I signed up at I can't walk 10 steps without someone asking me about em.....dudes, wimminz, huge dudes that look like they just shot up in the locker room. I mean i guess it helps I'm 260 otherwise they would figure it for pussy shit. But the guys who watched me squat/DL almost 5 plates this week are asking where they can get a pair. People have never seen anything like em here and honestly I'm kind of impressed by their open mindedness given that this is fundamentalist farm country. And the topper to it all is I'm going out with a hot bitch this weekend whom I probably wouldn't have talked to if she hadn't come up to me and asked about the vibrams. So did i mention y'all can kiss my ass? :D

rock these things and watch the bitches. If they don't ask about em they will at least give em a hard look and then you can break the ice by asking them if there's something they'd like explained to them.

ok that makes sense, "fundamental" not so much.

fundamental christians is what I meant. Hell, the only gym around worth going to is the Y where I'm greeted by a fucking gigantic jesus loves you poster on my way to the weight room. On a side note I can walk into a store that sells groceries and surivival equipment in adjacent isles. Like there's milk and then there's survival knives.....it is awesome I must admit.

dood, I think it's great that you're so secure with your masculinity that you feel comfortable wearing such fag footwear.

I say fuck it ... you should get a matching hand bag.

You write that as if he doesn't already have a matching handbag.

Oh... and LOL at squatting five plates OR a date with a hot girl. I'm throwing the bullshit flag at both.

Dude Teh Jacket adds 3 plates to my bench easily. Thats 3 plates each side bor. I can only imagine the power of teh vibrams.

So true. He's probably not counting the first four plates simply because of the edge those rubber slippers give him.

LOL all you want I don't care. And you know that 5 plates is 495 right? Not exactly entering and serious plifting comps with that squat. I'm happy as pie to even be able to step off the rack with that much weight with all the back problems I've had.....not sure why you're doubting you know how big I am and it's not all that much weight.

If you were 185 that would be balls out, but 260 its certainly not unheard of to squat 495 for reps.

Bullshit x 2

Agreed!

Vids/pics of said squat/hot girl OR he squats 135lbs and likes dudes.

just for this rubbish I will be lauging at both of you this weekend while I'm wearing teh vibrams AND getting my sick ducked. I'll even bet when she see's I'm still wearin em she gets her gynee hot.

Or she'll think it's weird and I won't get the sick ducked..........I'll have to think this one out and probably make a game time decision. We'll see.

Would like to see a vid though. For teh archives.....

Won't happen. When it's time for him to back-up something he says, you get page after page of ...'s, quotation marks and :lmao: symbols.

Bullshit x 2. He wants to rattle-off numbers -- he should be ready to back them up.

Naw -- you're not doing it right.

Tell us how you squat 1055 x 3 off a 9" box.

Guys last time i checked....This was a thread about obama, not dicks and shoes and squats. Just saying.

Alas, the bullshit flag remains on the ground... x2

I'm shocked!

LOL at you thinking 5 plates is an outrageous claim for a near 260 pound man.

1) I'm not going out to buy a video camera just to tape my squat.

2) Even if I had one I wouldn't do it. If you think EF is bad my gym is worse....the boys would never let me live it down. They'd be asking way too many fucking questions.....one of which would be "why the fuck are you taping yourself squatting a weight that is less than you used to do?". Uh uh, nope..no way. I've got about dick to prove here to you or anybody. If I was claiming a 6-700 pound squat.....than yeah, I would back it up...and the boys at the gym would at least understand me taping that kind of an effort. No way would they remotely understand taping a 495 squat. I'm happy to be doing that given what my back was like the last couple years.....but it ain't something I'm necessarily "gloating" about. You need to listen to Dave...it ain't that much, especially for a dude my size. I get it that you're looking through your own lenses.....but I've been around and lifting with dudes who squat twice that, it's all relative I guess.

Barry's MMS shouldn't have been spending their time surfing porn, doing drugs and taking gifts from oil company representatives.

This was not a problem with corruption with the MMS. This is clearly a problem of 4 or 5 huge poor decisions made by BP that are not industry standard procedures. Now the entire industry will suffer from this with political knee-jerk reactions.

Ok do you even lift weights now? I have a few concerns about this....

1) anyone who did lift knows that you're not going to go into the gym a couple days after a PR and repeat the lift....unless of course you want a catastrophic injury. If you're trying to lure me into that....well....I dunno all I can say is I've been lifting too long to be suckered into that.

2) I'm also concerned that you don't really lift weights otherwise you'd have a conception that 495 pounds, while not being a paltry sum, isn't enough to warrant taking a video. There's a 215 running back in my gym that can rep 600 2-3 times easy......I don't see him video taping his shit.

3) Nothing to do with you lifting weights or not.....but I'm not in my hometown right now and won't be for awhile. You were correct earlier last month when you suspected I was making the generous "get out plunkeys hair" offer because I was leaving.

But in the next week or so I might be attempting an incline press with 3+ plates.....would you like me to tell you how that went too? I can't really video tape that either but I'll be happy to have a full write up waiting for you on your desk the following morning.

Ok do you even lift weights now? I have a few concerns about this....

1) anyone who did lift knows that you're not going to go into the gym a couple days after a PR and repeat the lift....unless of course you want a catastrophic injury. If you're trying to lure me into that....well....I dunno all I can say is I've been lifting too long to be suckered into that.

the bullshit streak continues.

1) take a week to rest up if need be. You're making it obvious that you can't get 495 for a legitimate squat

2) nothing says you can't impress us with more weight.

3) of course I was right. I knew I was right when I posted it. You're ridiculously predictable.
