Not that I'm some huge authority but everything above is good.
Don't totally discard straps though - they are essential for dynamic pulling (high pulls, power shrugs etc...). During a recent tendon injury in my hand the straps allowed me to deadlift normally when 135 hurt without them.
Just like the belt, straps have a proper use. They are just misunderstood. Sort of like those leather fingerless gloves, they have a purpose too - to let everyone know the person wearing them is a idiot (unless it's a chick).
