Well as many of you know, I was laid off for 2.5 months, a big job came up and now im back to work for about 6 weeks and yesterday we got this letter with our paycheck.

"Dear fellow employee,

Over the past several weeks we have been right sizing our company to match the current market conditions to put ourselves in a positive position when the market conditions improve."

I looked at my fellow worker and said this must be the euthanized definition of getting laid off. He laughed, but agreed.

So anyways, we go to work today and were told if we get this and that done that we will be taken out to lunch tommorow for doing a good job. So we bust our asses, then at the very end of the day were told to bring our lunches because we won't be going out till wednesday. "And oh by the way, were having a big layoff tommorow so im letting you know ahead of time. Be prepared". As told by the big man.

I am so fucking sick of this shit. The fucking assholes decide now is the time to take control of the fucking world and to hell with everyone else and the economy. I've been trying to avoid bankruptcy and get into some small mfg stuff that ive been working on. I got chunk of debt payed off this last time around, but I think I have to look at the "market conditions" and decide if it's just time to throw my hands up in the fucking air and hire an attorney and file. Fuck it, im done with this goddamn game.

Probably why I'll never for for a corporation. If I do, I'll be coming in everyday packing guns and walking from cubicle to cubicle with fully auto m4 carbine and talking to myself.

Sorry to hear that man, but rest assured there are many positions in your field out there.

Not at this time. I work union only, and all of our contractors are really slow. And to be elgible to travel the host local has to have full employment and there isn't one local in the entire country with full employment. This type of work sucks at 70k(wont be making that this year though, it is the worse ive ever seen), I wouldn't even think about doing it for less(as in nonunion). Oh well, just keep plugging away I guess.

If you dont mind, would do go into detail describing what it is that you do?

It's Monday morning, your boss walks into your office and says "this is going to blindside you"...the proceeds to tell you that after his meetings at corporate last week they are moving forward aggressively with consolodating operations and eliminating staff, and guess what? You're out effective today...here is your shitty five weeks of severance, have a good day.

That was my story anyway.....And the bitch of it is I had had a conversation with him not two months prior in which he said that if consolodation were to occur they would find a place for me. Don't trust anyone, that's for damn sure, especially if they work for a large corporation.

Face it there is no loyalty to individuals from companies in today's job market. The sooner you realize the you are a free agent in the marketplace the better. All you owe a company is two weeks notice and a hard day's work. If you take a job as a stop-gap or knowing it will be short term even if you tell them otherwise don't have any pangs of conscience. They'll let you go at a drop of a hat and you might as well treat them the same fucking way.

Me, bitter? What made you think so?
