Hi everybody, I just joined the board, been reading it for a while and I think it's great. Just wanted to say hello! :)

Hi!!!! Glad you decided to post...now give us some more info on yourself......we'd love to get to know ya:)

Thank you all for replying and making me feel welcome :) more about me? I'm about 20 yrs old, 5'6, 113-116 lbs, I work out 5 days a week, do cardio 3-5 days (after my workout), I'm trying to clean up my eating habits -more protein, lots of veggies, fruits, less fat, staying as far away from McDonalds as I can!! My goals? MUSLCES!! I joined the gym in early January, and I absolutely love it. I think I'm making pretty good progress so far, but I've got a long way to go! I've seen some of the posted pics on here and I must say you girls look amazing, I know it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve that. One day I'll get there!!

Usually for breakfast I'll have one hard boiled egg, one piece of toast (unbuttered), some fresh fruit or veggies-most of the time a few strawberries, a sliced plum, kiwi, grapes, a banana, celery sticks, or raw baby carrots, i try to switch them around so I don't get bored- and a glass of 2% milk. Sometimes I have a half a cup (uncooked) oatmeal, with one hard boiled egg, and again some fruit or veggie. Lunch is usually a tunafish sandwich and small salad-lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, etc. And dinner usually consists of some sort of meat... steak with steamed broccoli, or mixed veggies.. gound beef with mashed potatoes and veggies... chicken and veggies, or chicken and salad, etc. I have a protein shake after my workout, and sometimes one throughout the day as a snack. I usually go to the gym later on in the day, most of the time I have dinner an 30 min-1 hr or so before going, other times I have a snack or my lunch about 30 min-1 hr before and then have dinner after I get back. Once in a blue moon I'll wake up early enough to go in the morning, but that is not the usual case. Any ideas or suggestions?? I need all the help I can get!! ;)

Welcome girly:wavey: A source of "good fat" would be natty peanut butter or Flax seed oil, Hemp oil... you could also try Salmon and kill 2 birds with one stone:D it has protein and fat:) I love it with egg whites for breakfast:p

Welcome! Yes, I highly recommend the natural peanut butter...I think it's my new favorite food...!

I had similar stats when I joined here, and now I've bulked up to about 130 from 119 and 5'4", though IMO I look the same size, just not jiggly...learning to replace my five-days-a-week of cardio with more weight training was one of the easiest and quickest things I've ever done to improve my appearance...

I believe my diet was similar to yours as well...cutting out fruits is tough, but once you discover the wonders of natural pb, you'll forget about those silly strawberries right away...

:D :D Good luck with your goals!

so basically in your opinion i should cut out some fruit and eat more good fat... i know it may sound stupid, but i thought fruits and veggies were a good thing:confused: i'm going to try the natural peanut butter... i never really liked peanut butter i don't think, i haven't had any in so long i can't even remember! doesn't really matter much anymore, if it's good for me and will help me achieve my goal, i'll eat it!! My fiance has been telling me about 'needing more good fat' for a while now, but i guess i've been hesitant about it, the word fat creeps me out. he says i don't listen to him enough and should start to :D He's been the one really training me, he's great. He's REALLY into bodybuilding, and thanks to him i found i have a love for it too:) for so long i was a clueless starving skinny minnie pink weight cardio queen, now that just makes me laugh, i almost feel sorry for those types of girls. screw that, i want MUSCLES!!

Hey Hulkette! First, welcome!

Yep -- what you are hearing may seem counter intuitive. Yes fruits are good in the sense that they provide many good vitamins and enzymes that your body needs, but if you look at fruits from the standpoint of the food basics (proteins, fats, carbs), fruits are a major source of simple carbs, aka sugar. In the form of fructose, its still sugar. You might check out www.about.com and look under "Glycemic Index" - this explains how simple or complex carbs affect your insulin levels and how that impacts how your body stores fat or uses carbs for energy.

As far as natural peanut butter & good quality fats -- the media has gotten us so paranoid about "fat" thast we are scared to death of it, and then end up fill in our food intake w/ carbs. Essentially Fatty Acids are needed and are a good thing. Natural peanut butter is a decent source for fats, in addition to nuts, fish, lean red meat, and of course flax oil. Regular (non natural) PB is loaded with all sorts of junk, so you are better off sticking w/ the natural stuff, but also dont' get too hooked on it because its heavy in carbs & calories too!

You should also spend some time cruising around the diet boad or just doing searches when you find things that arent' quite intuitive like the above., Or just ask! We've all had the same questions!

You'll love this place!

hey sassy, thanks for the link... great site!!:) i really love the board, tons of info and even more so, lots of inspiration. i've seen some of the posted pics of you girls, and it's amazing the changes you've made to your bodies. don't worry Warlobo, i'm not trying to change my world all in a week. i'm just trying to work on my body overall, building muscle and eating right. i was never really that bad to begin with, as to weight, eating habits, etc. i just i was just really misinformed in the past, which caused me to lose motivation seeing that i wasn't really seeing results. i used to think eating less, and more cardio was the answer to being fit. my fiance opened my eyes to the reality, that i wasn't getting anywhere with that, and that it really wasn't healthy to begin with. my views have changed a lot, i know now i want to grow, be strong. i love lifting weights, waaaaaaaaaay more than cardio, food is my friend, not the enemy. since i've starting taking things more serious in recent times, i've made small changes here and there, and slowly but surely making progress towards my goal!! :) :) :)
