New Washington Post article recommends .37 g protein/lb of bodyweight: HORSEPUCKY!

  :kaioken: :kaioken: NO COMMENT :destroy: :destroy: :chainsaw: :chainsaw:

every nutrition course i have taken has included similar information. You have to remember that this is the amt. necessary to SUSTAIN a normal healthy adult... not a crazy ass muscled up mofo looking to gain mass as quickly as possible and keep carbs low. Remember that ultra high protein intake is usually a way to increase calories without increasing fat / carb intake. It is not NECESSARY to take in the ridiculous amt that most of us do take in, it simply maximizes our gains pertaining to weight lifting/lean body mass gain.

If anyone has a link....please post....

My personal rant is that this sounds like bull to me.

That math means I only need 72g of protien a day. I doubt that.

As brainwashing cults use protien-deprivation as a means of control (I know that would mean your body cannibalizes your muscles for protien--making you weaker; and it also does something to make you more succeptible to mental control), I wonder if anyone knows any articles on this area.

I'd be interested in knowing how much protien one needs just to stay healthy and strong both physically and mentally. I know you can't do without it, but I don't know what's been independantly established as the correct amount.

Interesting you should say that (protein deprivation). It has also been documented that in poor countries, when infants grow up without suficient protein in their diets they become severely developmentally disabled (as in mentally deficient).

Protein is crucial for so many things in the body--not just muscle building--like synthesizing hormones and enzymes, that I find that a high-protein diet is the way to go for just about everyone.

One reason I maximize protein intake is there are so many bad carbs and fats out there---but there is no such thing as a bad protein!!! :-)

i dont see whats wrong with the article. if u dont lift weights you dont need near as much protien. your body really can only utilize .8-.9 grams of protien per pound of LEAN bodymass.
