Good Morning!

I would like to say that I am new to this board so please be gentle! I am 24, 6'6" 230lbs. I am beginning to workout to gain overall strength. I am not looking to get huge, just increase strength and get definition. Right now I am at 20% BF. I have been looking around for a good workout program. I have access to a full gym and do Cardio in the morning and will be doing weights at night. I would like to workout 4 days a week with weights. And would also like to hit each muscle twice a week. I love the gym and after I am done with the muscles for the day I don't want to leave! I have done some research and being new it is a little confusing. There are so many different exercises to hit each muscle group. (IE All the different type of bench presses) Should they all be done the same day. Do I need to rotate the chest exercises? These type of questions. I nee help on what would be a good workout plan to hit the full body. Any suggestions or a website link would be helpful. A little note. I am diabetic and eat pretty good but could do better.

I thank you in advance for your time.

Have a great day!

Chris
PS. If you are in Dallas let me know. Id love to chat!

You'll see plenty of threads on this board discussing workout splits and lifting volume. I wouldn't recommend hitting the same muscles 2x per week. Most guys only hit each muscle group once every 6 days at most.

You should focus on intensity (using the most weight that you can lift with correct form)...if you completely burn the muscle group then you won't feel like working it out for another week.

It doesn't really matter which exercises you use for each muscle group....as a matter of fact, I mix it up all of the time. I know that I'm going to go in to work chest/tris, for example, but I pick the exercises at random. Doing the same routine every day isn't a good idea for isolation exercises. Obviously squats/deads are compound exercises...I always do them on the appropriate day.

Don't worry about getting huge....it takes years to "get huge." Train/eat like a bodybuilder and you'll reach your fitness goals much quicker....whether you're just looking for lower bf% or to hit a certain LBM.

Thanks!

Thanks! I started looking around and found some good posts. I am wondering if there is a website that has the exercises defined and what part they work? I know what most are but some people call things different. For example. What is deads? Deadlifts?

Check out the powerlifting board bro. Arioch has some great threads on lifts such as deadlifts at the top of the page.

Welcome to the board

Stupid Question Alert

STUPID QUESTION ALERT!

Ok, there are different exercises for the muscle. Like all the different bench preses. Should they all be done in the same workout session? Or should one week I do one and another week do another?

Thanks

.. We were all newbies once!

I would suggest that you start with a general routine of physical conditioning for 2 weeks before hitting the iron specifically. This general routine should include at least one or two exercises per muscle, but it is not hard or intense because you are beginner. Are you currently under a specific routine given you at the gym??

by the way this is a link that shows exercises

Thanks!

Thanks! I have been working out for about 3 weeks now getting back into it. I have a good general split routine. Thanks for the link!

I have several friends in the DFW area...mostly who either powerlift or do strongman. I may be moving to that area in the next year also...
