Hey all have been here for about a month learning and reading and have learned a great deal so decided to join. I have been working out for awhile now and want to join a gym. But what I have noticed on this site is all of the horrible things that go on in the gym. People talking to you while you work out, just being all around a**holes. So my question is is it even worth paying a fee for all of that crap. I have been working out at home for about 2 years and feel I have advanced enough to join a gym. Just looking for some feedback from all those that belong or have been going for sometime now before I make any final decisions. Thanks.

Yea dude there are definetely a lot of jerks. But I belong to a gym and there are annoying people there but I just blow it off and go about my business. Fuck everybody else there as far as I am concerned. I pay a membership to go and thats all there is to it. I will tell you the main advantage of gyms over training at home is the variety of equipment. I can't train at home because I live in a small apt. But all these people always bitchin about the gym scene I do understand but don't. I only spend 3-5 hours a week in the gym so I really don't care about the people there. I have a life. I'd join if I were you. Most likely be glad you did.:D

Don't let all the bitching keep you from joining a gym. There are assholes everywhere, restaurants, malls, anywhere you find people. And maybe even a little moreso in some gyms. But for the most part, and I think most if not all the users on this board would agree, gym folk are more friendly than you might think.

People bitch about things/people they love, friends, room mates, family, etc. . . There will always be little pet peeves and we have a good time doing some whining. Hell, there are always characters at the gym who are pretty much begging to be made fun of. I've even got names picked out for some of the local weirdos at my gym. Wanna hear some?

Tarzan, Jerry Curl, Powderpuff and Buttercup, Elvis, The Screaming Lesbian. That's all I remember right now.

But don't sweat that shit. The good far outweighs the bad. Remember what you're there for, to lift, run, whatever. To better yourself, not socialize.
