I've been doing The Shadow's Old School Routine for the past 4 weeks and have made great gains. I want to change it up a bit next week or the week after and was looking at the Bigger Faster Stronger routine. Seems good but I'm having some problems putting it together. Here is the routine I came up with (without warmups). Week 4 is a bit odd for reps so I won't put it in here.
WEEK 1-3
Mon:
Bench - week 1:3x3, week 2:5x5, week 3:5-3-1
Squat - week 1:3x3, week 2:5x5 week 3:5-3-1
Military Press - 2x8
Dips - 2x8
Wed:
Deadlift - week 1:3x3, week 2:5x5, week 3:5-3-1
Power Clean - week 1:3x3, week 2:5x5, week 3:5-3-1
Wide Grip Pulldowns - 2x8
Rows - 2x8
Fri:
Incline Bench - week 1:3x3, week 2:5x5, week 3:5-3-1
Hack Squat - week 1:3x3, week 2:5x5, week 3:5-3-1
Close Grip Bench - 2x8
Curls - 2x8
Is this how the workout is meant to be run? It seems at odds with the Old School routine I've been on. My goal is to continue gaining muscle.
So far, I've run the starting strength routine for 2 weeks, took 1 week off to move, then ran the Old School for 4 weeks. I've gained 7 lbs and lost about 1%-1.5% body fat. This is after recovering from stomach surgery. In addition to gaining weight and feeling great, my lifts have increased significantly.
