i'm usually discussing topics in the anabolic section, but needed some help from the ladies today...well,here's my deal...my girlfriend is a fitness enthusiast to say the least!she is natural all the way and is presently 5'3" @ 118 lbs.her body fat recently was measured at 8.72% from about 10.5% 4-5 weeks ago.the problem is she has been using birth control for awhile and stopped recently...but she has not had her period for approx 3 months now...could it be that her bf% is too low and interfering w/ her period cycle?she will be visiting her gyno in approx 1.5 weeks;but i wanted some input...i'm worried about her...thx for all your help!

yeah... menstration can stop anywhere below 15% (eveyone's different) most girls will cease menstration below 10-12%

Why is she so lean? Is she preparing for competition?

she's been training for 3 yrs now and is in competition shape...she eats approx 2100 cals/day @ approx a 40-30-30...she was not expecting an 8.72% bf...her trainer cut her late night carbs for 4 weeks...hence,those results!she is truly a freak of nature though...all she uses is protein powder and l-glutamine...other than that...it's whole food.

ps:i've told her that she can easily compete...but,no need to have those %'s year round...i have never seen her above 12%...but her metabolism is lighting fast...but able to pack on muscle as well...a true mesomorph...no doubt.

The birth control pill is a notorious fat magnet. Stopping it could certainly result in a quick body fat loss (as could cutting those late night carbs!). That aside, just stopping the pill at any level of body fat can throw the menstrual cycle off for a few months. Is there any remote possiblity she could be pregnant?

Most likely I'm thinking it's the combination of an already low bodyfat combined w/ the recent stopping of the pill, leading to a sudden loss of more bf. The pill probably helped give her just enough hormones to have a period. It may take some time for her body to sort things out.

It's good she's going to check with the gyn about it. Depending on the person, it is possible to have a regular period at low bodyfat, provided the body is getting sufficient nutrition and not overly stressed.

i can guarantee she is not pregnant...already knocked off that possibility...--fyi

and thank you for all your help...you ladies are great!!!!
