"The sport of Strongman is growing dramatically worldwide. Today there are more than 50 competitions held annually in the U.S. and more than 100 worldwide, with attendance ranging from a few hundred to 25,000.
There are many reasons for Strongman's popularity. First and foremost is the nature of the sport, which requires a combination of power, strength, endurance, intensity and iron will that is unmatched by other sports. Athletes flip cars, pull trucks, lift 400-pound stones and flip 1,000-pound tires. In short, Strongman is the most intense and complete test of human strength. The typical athlete, at 6'3" and 330 pounds, with 23" biceps and a 58" chest, looks more like a superhero than a professional athlete.
Second is the international reach of Strongman. Beyond featuring competitions in six continents, the sport's top talent is geographically diverse. At the 2000 world championship, the ten finalists hailed from ten different countries - Finland, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Germany, South Africa, Canada, Great Britain, the U.S. and the Faroe Islands.
Third is the personable nature of the sport. In general, the athletes compete for the love of the sport and for the challenge of being the strongest in the world. They genuinely enjoy interacting with fans and helping out newcomers to the sport.
There are many other reasons that Strongman will continue to grow in popularity worldwide. The best way to find out is to experience it yourself at a competition. To find a competition near you, go to the Competition Schedule."
