I normally have a tunnel vision thing going on in the gym, so I don't even notice what's going on around me, well other than that gorgeous blond nordic looking woman I'm always seeing.

But lately I can't help noticing that everyone i see in the gym is doing partial reps on just about every exercise. That shit really annoys me, but I usually bear it in silence. Well yesterday as I'm warming up, I notice the young teenager on the bench next to me doing half range bench presses. Maybe it's the test in my system (please don't tell superzero), but that was just too much for me, so I went up to the kid and told him that if he wasn't going to touch the bar to his chest, I'd direct him over to the cable flyes. Well in chatting with him, it turns out it was the certified personal trainers that taught him to lift like that, on every goddamn exercise. These skinny pencil necks wrote a test once, never worked out a day in their lives, and now get paid to fuck up the training of kids. Makes sense to me. This kid even told me that he asked for one of their special, individual training programs to build mass, they put him on this "special program", which as it turn out is the exact program the senior citizens are on.

My first born for a hardcore gym in my town.....

I usually have tunnel vision in the gym but I have also started to notice and get very irritated with the half reps people do. It's even worse when they do a weight close to yours, half reps, for like 5 reps and as soon as they're done they look at you like "what's up?" I don't have the patience to tell them that it's my warmup weight and I'm going for reps of 12-15 (full range).

It's not quite a bally's but not much better, in my town you don't have much choice, there is the raquet club, all yuppy lawyers and such, and the only money they put into the place is in the cardio equipment. There is Bodyline, run by a pathetic little competitive bodybuilder, who dislikes everyone bigger than him, which is everyone. Or The Athletic Club, which is where I am, all brand new equipment, just opened in december, and the equipment is the highest quality I've ever seen, and it's the cheapest too.

The hardest part is that I came from a gym where I trained with a number of competitive bodybuilders and a nationally ranked powerlifter who was 5'7", 290lbs, squatted over 800lbs, benched 550lbs, etc. What a tough transition from that to yuppy land.

You nailed that one, the other day I was squatting next to some guy with 3 plates on the bar, who was doing pissant partials with it, and looking around like he was the king. I went up to 405lbs for sets of 5, ass to the floor with a pause at the bottom of every rep as I'm working on back placement coming out of the hole, an this buttmunch actually has the nerve to tell me I'm doing it wrong. Lucky I'm such a goddamn pacifist.....

fuck pacifism. you should toss that 400 pounds on his girly little head. haha. i hate that shit dude. i always see younger kids in there doing either partial reps or going down 3 times as fast as comin up. curls especially. thats all i see them do! curls!

My peeve is when I am working out by the dumbell racks and you have guys that pull up their flat bench and lay out their weights in front of the floor where you need to get to the weights.

First they are using 30 to 50lbs dumbells and they are in front of the 80 - 100 lbs weight where they don't even use. I have to carry 100 lbs on each arm playing hop scotch over their weights. They finally realized and moved back.

I just get upset period when people stand in front of the weights training that prevent other people to getting other weights.

Had the same experience a few years ago. Was squatting with a conservative 225 or so, getting nice and low. Up until then, I thought I was sooooo cool because I could partial squat 450 or more. Anyway, this older skinny guy was loading up the leg press with 8 plates per side or something, jumping on the seat and I swear to God he moved that stack 12 inches at best. And get this....after watching me and rolling his eyes a few times, this fucking beanstalk had the balls to come over and tell me how I was going to fuck my knees up!!!

As for the verbal thrashing that ensued, I can only say that hey, he opened the door, not me. NS, you have the patience of a saint. I NEVER say anything to other lifters, no matter how much they're fucking up an excercise. But I expect the same in return. Now if someone who obviously knows what he's doing offers a friendly suggestion, that's cool. I've learned a lot that way. But otherwise.....tread lightly. :)
