she's at 138...and well she doesn't look bad at all..flat stomach, just big legs and stuff...anyways, she has done spinning class with me for 1 hour for almost 2 weeks at least 4 times a week, with good diet, she doesn't eat much, and eats almost perfect, and she weighed herself yesterday and weighed 141. She doesn't do many weights, which i belive will help her , but still, im thinkikng scientifically she should have lost a couple of pounds...even though eating 6 times a day would speed up the metabolism, i stll don't see why she hasn't lost weight.

what could be the reasons, although i know many (blood type, metabolism and shit) but wow, if with an hour of cardio a day she can't loose weight, I don't know. WHat do you guys think or can you point me to a thread that can help me and her (search doens't work any more) thanks - str8cubano

WE really need on sticky on this already!!!

It sounds like she is not eating enough and her body is in starvation mode. If this is the case she will NOT lose weight. She can do cardio until the cows come home, but it's not gonna help her and most likely it's eating away at the little bit of muscle she has. Get her on this board and let her look around and ask her own questions.

She needs to know that weight lifting will NOT hurt her in anyway. It will only help her. She also needs to modify that diet. Obviously what she is doing is not working and it's time for change. Losing weight is not an exact science. Just cause you do ABC your output is not going to be XYZ, by default.

Please post her diet and I am sure we will be able to help you and her better.

flxgirl...

yea i know a good reason is weight training. She is going to give me her exact diet today, becasue i don't know exactly what it is...but i do know she doesn't pig out, and according to her , she eats often a day. The truth is she doesn't have a lot of muscle in her body, so that can be a reason. She has a lot of muscle in her legs by genetics though. She looks great to me, and in general, but i feel bad that she busts her ass in the gym and is not getting the results she wants. So yea im going to get very scientifc about it and post her exact diet, and start with the weight training and protein. Hopefully this will do the trick..

She sounds just like me. I did 1 1/2 hours of cardio everyday. The scale didn't move for 2 months. Then I stopped doing so much cardio, concentrated on weight training, started CKD two weeks ago. My BF has gone down a lot. Can't tell how much in #'s but I took progress pics and you can really see it in the pictures. I still have a looooooooong way to go, but now I have a much better understanding on what it takes to get there.

Sounds like me too

I use to run track/cross country in college- 70 miles a week and I never moved a pound. I think my body ate up most of the muscle that I had. I love to run so I still do it a lot sometimes I go for 45 mins at 6.9-7.0 mph and do the elliptical for 30 mins, sweating like a pig but it doesnt move the scale..

Cardio is horrible, and the absolute worst cardio for losing weight is spinning. She will have horrible fat legs from spinning because it will keep massive amounts of glycogen in them. Drop spinning all together if you want her to lose weight. have her start eating 6 meals a day, get her water intake up to 1 gallon a day, maybe 1/4 gallon the first week, 1/2 gallon the second week, 3/4 gallon the third week and 1 gallon the fourth week and have her stay there. Then get her into lifting, that will make her lose weight faster than anything. But first of all, get her butt on here so she can talk to us :) :) :)

Yea I would like to..but there's still the issue of me telling her about doing steroids...and I don't wanna cross that bridge yet..

She does not need steriods. Losing wieght has NOTHING to do with a cycle. Everything else needs to be in place and that does not include an hour of cardio -- trust me.

Diet diet diet, weight training, diet, water and yeah...did mention diet.

How tall is she? And the legs..well -- if you cannot beat them, I say join them. I had big legs -- pear shaped body type -- but I started lifting and the legs were the first to gain muscle and while may be bigger -- appear fitter and more shapely.

Let's also reintroduce the basic concept of using bodyfat & not weight as a measurement of relevance. Also the only time period mentioned was 2 weeks of cardio. 2 weeks doesn't mean much of anything. Certainly not meaningful weight or bodyfat loss. Water weight possibly. On the other hand, her body may be trying to adjust to a change in activity and its holding on to the fat that it has? (Not enough information to make these calls.)

Can you give a little more history on how long doing cardio & diet? And also her weight. And just for the record, especially with women, there are some areas that have a higher percentage bodyfat due to estrogen and its going to take a longer period of consistent training & diet to make a noticeable dent in these areas.

no, she's being doing cardio for months now...but hardcore for the last 2 weeks. Her diet is like this.

Morning, some cereal. mid morning, - yogurt, lunch, some chicken or a sandwhich, usually no more than 5 grams of fat. Alot of coffe during the day, then dinner, usually chicken and potatoes, and thats pretty much it. but nothing too fatning, and nothing too much loaded with carbs before bed. She is basically maintaing at the same weight.

new girl- i didn't mean her, i meant me. Regardless, i have already read hunderds of threads about this, and this is my desision not to say until the right time.
