My First Weight Room Experience

So, I'm really loving this new gym. Yesterday I ventured into the weight room. I'm looking around trying to get accustomed, and my mind is pretty much made up I"ll be working with the bar only. So as I look around there's this 1 lone male creature in there. He's looking at me, case the joint. Finally he goes "wassup". I say "sup" back. He goes what you're doing? I go I"m about to be doing what you're doing. Immediately he goes give me your # and I can help you. I go how long you been lifting? He goes 2 months. I said, and you want to help me? Let me see what you got (he's prepping to bench press). Tell me why this fool asked me to spot him. I spot him, I didn't take note of how much weight, but he handled it.

I go knock out 2 warm up sets of bent over rows (i was working back). He gets his rest on. After I'm done he asks me to spot him again, which I oblige, and he knocks it out.

While he rests, I knock out the rest of my working sets of Rows. I then go about my business and out of weight room in search of some db's to knock out my one arm rows. While I'm on my 1st set, tell me why this fool ventured back into my space, in a whole nother area of the gym to ask me to come back and spot him. I"m like alright, but let me finish here first. He goes, ok I"m gonna go get some water I'll met you back in the weight room.

At this point I"m a little annoyed, as I"m trying to get acclimated, and this fool acts like I'm the only person in the gym. Nevermind, there are only 2 females there (me being 1), with the rest of the population being men. I finish my one arm rows, and then go do the Lat machine.

I finally go back to the weight room, and this fool has plates upon plates upon plates loaded on the bench. I'm like yo wtf, I can't spot that. Anyway he prepares to lift, and then I hear him making a horrible choking/gurgling sound, and he's not even half way back to the bar. I'm like ut oh this is my cue. So I assist in the lift and I'm like yo that wasn't even a half, what you trying to do.

Why this fool tells me I was ready 5 minutes ago, you took to long! WTF????????????? Is he out of his mind. I go well alright hon, I'm on my way out of here. This fool tells me, yo where's that paper with your #?

Is this what I"ve waited so long to experience? Other than that, I had a really GREAT workout.

LMAO! He likes you ;)

Gyms are strange places. You can meet your perfect match as well as the strangest mutations of human life imagineable. That's why most serious people put on a set of head phones w/ loud music blasting, pull down the ol' baseball cap & STFU & train. If you act like u can't hear these idiots or can't be distracted from your workout, eventually they leave u alone. There are those who just don't catch a hint and these you just really need to turn "off".

But they do make for some pretty funny stories....

BTW for those idiots who are just simply lifting too much, I will simply say, "You need to make sure your form is tight before you go up in weight. Otherwise you just hurt yourself." Or "Its really tight form that will get you results. Lifting too heavy can just cause injury.)"

Some people are just stupid.

... and this is just ONE reason why I have invested in equipment and workout exclusively at home! :twirl:

I got a killer deal on a 1 yr membership to one of those key-access 24 hr gym facilities 2 blocks from my house. I use this for quickie cardio if needed, and they have a tanning place next door if I need it. However I almost always drive the 20-30 min to my other gym (a Gold's) for the ambiance. There's nothing like the thrill & commeraderie of training w/ a bunch of other people psychotic enough to train for competition. My opinion anyway -- when I originally looked at the 24 hr gym facility & the guy said "Wouldn't you love to have the whole gym to yourself?", I knew explicitly that I wanted to be around other muscle heads and not train alone.

But to musclemom's point, there are an amazing number of boneheads at most gyms. You just put up w/ them --- they are God's way of providing entertainment between sets. :)
