My elbows are killing me!!!

Is there something I can do to prevent this? When I do flat bench I have such a hard time lowering the bar to my chest but then once it is down there I have no problem pressing it and lowering it again. But that first drop I lower so slowly you would think there was something wrong with me. Then after the sets they are swore as all hell.

Could you explain your hand position on the bar and you elbows in relation to your torso as the bar is lowered. I would say alot of these issues are technique and not necessarily a physical problem with the user , but there are always exceptions

Well my the bar usually rests on the bottom of my palm so I can use more of my wrist and they are about evenly spaced apart to line up directly with my elbows so my forearm is straight and not at an angle

You use an open hand grip?. Also the bar generally has rings on it. Where are your hand in relation to the rings on the bar. Do your elbows stick out in relation to your torso or are thet tucked in towards your torso

I close my hands and line my index finger with the rings on the bar. My arms are a little longer being 6'5 so with my arms a little further out on the bar with my index fingers being on the rings it makes it a lot more confortable.

Make sure that at the bottom of the movement that the upper arms are perpendicular to the ground or at least that the elbows are angled in to the body just a bit

simple solution:

if your bodybuilder ( not powerlifter)

do all Pushing exercises on the same day

do you warm up?

hit a couple light sets of pressdowns, full range of motion (all the way up, all the way down) to get your elbows warm and loosened up.

You know I agree. I always do this, use Icy-Hot, elbow sleeves (light ones), and start every exercise wtih the empty bar.

honestly...alot of people are sore the first couple reps/first set.

warm it up, start very light like bfold said. your tendons arent to be tested on the first run. get some blood flow in there.

you don't start a racecar with the the gas pushed to the floor do ya? :)
