Muscle Maturity

I hear that term "muscle maturity" - can anyone tell me what it means and describe what it looks like? How long does it take to get it? How can you tell when looking at someone if they have it? Pictoral examples would be great as well.

Thanks!

I think "muscle maturity" refers to when a guy finally figures out how to control his boners???? LMFAO!.

(sorry, I had to.)

OK, thanks for the humorous answers, but can anyone explain what muscle maturity means in terms of bodybuilding?

Thanks WarLobo, that's what I was looking for!

So does "muscle maturity" just come with time, provided one sticks to a consistent diet and training program?

Say I reach my desired muscle size, but I keep training and eating consistently, and pushing myself in terms of strength and definition but not size, will I get muscle maturity and that nice hard oak look over time?

Or do you have to reach your genetic peak size-wise before you can develop muscle maturity?

To me it is like when you can tell if someone has been training a long time. And even if they stop for a while you can tell that they've payed their dues. Like a male gymnast. I know they're not as big as us but you can tell they have been putting their bodies through a lot of vigorous strength exercise.

I"ve heard the comment several times about "muscle maturity" particularly on women. If you check out women's comps you find that many of the really tight ladies (I dont' just mean leaned out) are in their 30s +.

This is one thing I love about bb -- you can start any time in life and you can actually get better as you get older!

When I use the term "muscle maturity" in women I am referring to the progressive decrease of estrogen levels that women experience after puberty. As estrogen levels drop, losing fat stored due to the way these hormones work becomes easier. It is almost like women experience an increase in test, but technically that is not true. It is just that the opposing estrogen is no longer hindering the test present in the woman's body. Does this make sense? I am not sure if I am using some correct terminology, but this estrogen drop is why women's physics tend to look better as they get older.

Just what I've learned and come to understand from my research in that area

hmmmm Maybe it's all of the above. Both male and female BB's look better with 'maturity' in my eyes. It's kinda like fitness/figure is more suitable for younger women and physique is more suited to older folks. Nothing more unpleasant looking IMHO than junior physique competitiors OR senior figure competitiors! I agree with rasta that (in both sexes) estrogen may have something to do with it, and also for males on high androgenic cycles. No doubt this is why (aside from size AA boobs) most male AAS users now also use anti-estrogens. If you're looking to compete (or just look good naked) without using AAS then there is no substitute for real bodybuilding maturity. If you look at most of the guys that compete in 'natural' competitioins (aside from what you may or may not think they are really using) they are mostly close to, or over 30 years old. I think this is for a reason. Also go watch a BB competition some time if you haven't already. The folks in Master's and Senior classes may not have the sheer mass of the young bucks on roids, but they have a density that no gear in the world (that I know of) can get ya.

Whatever it is, I prefer dense people!

Yeah, how 'bout posting some pics, some examples of "muscle maturity" I'm very interested. I've been told by some that I have nice muscle size and density. I'm very solid, but not lean, and I haven't hit 30 yet, not until next year anyway. And I've also only been lifting for a year and a half so I'm thinking maybe people are just being nice or something.
