Muscle growth when does it occur while sleeping?

after training? many recommend taking a complex carb and protein supplement after traing saying that it promotes growth but when does the actual muscle building take place.
 
Muscle repair occurs all the time. Muscle repair is the process that "grows" muscle, so all the time I would guess. Kind of like asking "when does a cut heal"?
 
I would agree with the other fellas,that it occurs all the time.

I would also say during sleep and after going to bed on a high protien shake,
that can be a very good time for rebuilding and rejuvenating the body and probably
a good growing period as well.
 
i've gotten into the habit of having 40g whey in the middle of the night when i wake up to take a piss..

a competitor friend who has won some SERIOUS titles swears by it.

That's interesting. It seems logical. With the sleep HGH release protein systhesis would probably be really efficient.

It's all about keeping your body in a + nitrogen balance. Something I need to start practicing.

GH is released at the first delta burst. delta sleep is stages 3,4. (im boarded in sleep medicine)
 
after a long ardous day -- guess when the body "heals" and you feel better?

AFTER sleeping.

Hence -- muscle relaxes, repairs itself, goes into a state of self-fixation DURING the sleep cycle.

Protein shakes in the middle of the night work WONDERS. If you think about it, you are not only curbing a long period of fast, but also essentially adding a meal. It is very easy to do if you wake up in the middle of the night to piss. Pre mix the shake before you go to bed and set it next to your bed, or in the bathroom, whatever. I always "set the alarm" by having a protein shake + a glass of water right before bed. Definitely can't make it through the night with all that liquid in my belly.

yep i know a couple guys who do this. they leave a protein shake in a thermo flask in the toilet.

anyway id say all the time. sure growth hormones are released at night but they float around all day to some degree

Really? You think that is accurate?

Injectable GH has a halflife of 30-45 minutes. What would make your bodies Gh any different?
 
This threads also brings me to a question:

When does fat cells shrinking occur ? And also , when does fat cells enlargements occur ?

anyone ?

Muscle growth/repair occurs all day, however growth hormones are released during a certain stage of sleep. You don't want to intake a complex carb directly after training, but rather a simple carb preferably from a liquid source like grape juice to replenish glycogen stores (around 8 to 10ozs depending on training intensity). Also within 45 mins you want to intake a fast acting protein such as whey to stimulate protein synthesis.

I used to "shake" b4 bed but then was told that a slower digesting protein would sustain better thru the sleep cycle.

Fat cell shrinking occurs when you no longer supply your body with enough fuel daily and your body needs to go to it's reserves for more so basically it can happen anytime depending on your diet. The same goes for enlargement except the opposite occurs! :p
