Milk... Tons of conflicting opinions...

I've searched this board and it seems hard to nail down any solid information about milk, seems that most everything are opinion (with a few good exceptions). What I'd like to know is how many of you guys use milk when on a bulking cycle? If you DO use milk, how much a day and what kind (whole, 2%, 1%, or skim). Thanks for throwing in your .02! -11b

Man I feel you, I have had the same questions and I love milk, but I finally decided to go with the fat free carb countdown milk which is made by HOOD, I drink about 1/2 gallon everyday, cutting/bulking whatever, the nutrition info is as follows:
serving size: 1 cup
cals:70
fat grams: 0
carb grams: 3 (sugars)
fiber: 0
protein grams: 12
Try it you might like it, its good in shakes and with food...

Thanks, is that the same as the atkins milk (I don't think it is made by them but has their seal smack on the front of it). I've tried it and although it tastes weird, it's not too bad. I don't mind the calories though for bulking. Anyone else care to chime in?

I just go with plain old skim milk. I use 2 cups skim, 1 to 1/2 scoops ON Protein powder chocolate flavor. I drink 4 of those a day, TASTE'S GREAT! Breaks down like this per shake:

Cal. 290
Pro. 41g.
Carb. 29g.
Fat. 1 1/2g.

Here's a lil trick, mix it up and let it sit and settle in the fridge overnight or for a few hours, taste's JUST LIKE chocolate milk!!

Up to a gallon a day, skim only though, bulking or not.

1% here, I drink a huge glass with every meal when bulking

yeah i can't give it up either, although now i drink skim only. i probably go through a gallon every 3 or 4 days, mainly because i only use it for shakes or when i'm eating protein bars.

a well known pro once told me to stay away from milk; he said it thickened the skin and skim milk in particular had too many carbs... i don't know... i like it.

I drink 3/4 to a gallon a day when bulking, about 1/2 gallon when off. I love milk and its the only way I can get in all the calories and protein. It's got some sugar, but there is no possible way I can eat 4500 cals a day of food. I drink skim.

I don't drink it at all. I like to stay lean. There is too much sugar for me in there.
Milk can also make your prostate gland swell if you drink a lot of it!

I personally group it into the "sweets" or "dessert" category. One & 1/2 cup a day max. And that's not even real milk. It's Hood's "Carb Countdown". Not as calorie dense, super low in sugar and very high is protein.

Milk gives me roaring gas attacks...I used to drink tons of it anyway and torture my friends with my atomic bombs, but in the past 5-10 years, I have been using lactaid, and not that much of it either.

Milk is a terrific protein source in a balanced diet. Reducing the fat level is heart and calorie smart.

Old school used to mix protein drink with it ... Larry Scott for example.

If you get a negative digestive reaction, try the Carb Countdown or Lactose Free.

Exactly, too many carbs and it can make you bloat. Milk is for babies, what Arnold used to say!

i drink 2% with my protien shakes. this is during my bulking cycle though. during cutting i cut down on the milk considerably. but bulking i drink 1/2 gallon per day.

I've always drinked skim milk.

if i have cereal with my breakfast, i always put skim milk in it. Usually a big bowl of honey nut cheerios or with hot oatmeal.

i also add skim milk to my protein shakes..usually about 12 oz...

i probably average per day about 20 oz (two and a half cups) of skim milk.....that is not a whole lot though

Well, when you are BULKING, milk has it's place, as it is both protein and carbohydrate dense. When cutting however, the additional sugar from MOST milk is unneccessary and detrimental to one's goal. I would say if you have to, skim milk with breakfast cereal and with some of your protein shakes would be ok. DEF NO 2%!! That stuff is GARBAGE even when bulking.

On the other hand ... Vince Giranda (sp) advocated drinking half & half!

vince is prolly my fav old school guy,... he says eat 1 hard boiled egg for every hour are awake that day (so 1 hard boiled egg every 16 hours!) 16 a day!

also he was a big believer in liver tablets...

vince > all

How are the body fat levels with 2% everyday?

Although my circumstance is different, as my BF% can never exceed 10.

If he's meso/endo then I doubt whole milk will do much harm as far as body fat. But probably most of us on here are not as lucky to have those genetics.

to be honest i feel great and im getting stronger and i feel lean even drinking 1/2 gallon EVERYDAY. so its a trial and error thing for the most part. try it for a week or two before you abondon it. i drink 1/2 gallon ed and im shocked that im feeling really good, getting stronger, looking good. the extra 1k+ in milk calories defentatly has a good impact in my body in a great way. i wish i could of started of drinking this stuff heavier years ago. im riding this bitch for all its worth.

LOL...

Well, I have a LIQUID concoction that I drink with EVERY meal, and throughout the day...

I take, 3 Sccop Whey, 3 scoop Casein, some SKIM milk, some water, blend.......

Now that is muscle juice....

I drink lots of skim-by itself, with shakes, cereal, P&J(natty & low sugar of course) and love it. I haven't tried mixing my shakes with beer though, water yes. HUMMMM

I also drink the Hood "atkins approved" skim milk. Has 3g of carbs per cup. But the last carton I got they remived the Atkins label, and reduced protien content from 12g to 8g. Not such a big deal but at $6/gal, I want all I can get from it.

1 cup 16oz Skim with two scoops optimun choc or vanilla protien powder (2 scoops = 55g of pro.) ED either post workout or before bed.

I have been drinking milk (skim) for years.

People here keep commenting on milk sugar, lol....
Is "Lactose" dudes, probably the slowest digesting sugar, thats why
I never take as a PWO shake......

unless you are lactose intolerant is prbly the best sugar to have...

If there is one thing worries me bout milk is all the shit they give
to the cows these days.....

If you're worried about the hormones and antibiotics in regular milk then go the organic route. A gallon of of Organic Valley milk is like 6 bucks which is expensive, but it is very good for you.

I've noticed my sinuses have cleared up too since I started drinking organic milk.

I'm cutting right now and use 1% organic milk. GOOD stuff.

70% of the world population is also lactose intollerent, which means they CANNOT digest it. If you use lactaid , then the slow digesting carb becomes a blood sugar raising bomb. Lactose is glucose + galactose bound together. This means that it's a disaccharaide. 2 simple sugars bound together. The enzyme in your stomach (for the 30% that produce this enzyme) called lactase is used to break the bond between the 2 simple sugars. Once broken , the 2 simple sugars will have a high insulin response. So using milk with lactaid in conjunction with r+ala makes sense.

So basically drop 3 lactaid pills in your milk and let it sit overnight. The lactose will be broken and then treat milk no different then any simple sugar

I'd rather eat yogurt

Taste better and less lactose
