Mermaid's Not Giving Up Journal

Defeat may test you; it need not stop you. If at first you don't succeed, try another way. For every obstacle there is a solution. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. The greatest mistake is giving up.

So here I am, back again, like a bad smell ;) I just can't keep away and if I'm lurking, well, I might as well participate anyway. Extended my plat subscription and will journal from tomorrow.

I'm not comfortable posting my pics and stats (too ashamed actually) but I have them for comparison down the track. I'm not planning to compete, just to be the best I can be, living a healthy life. And fitting into those slim fit blue jeans I've still got in the bottom of my closet. That's my goal for now.

When you give up on yourself, you might as well be dead.

Mood: Extremely positive right now
Mental health : Extremely stable right now , LOL
Physical health : OK, but will be better for losing a few pounds

A big thank you to SBT, Roony, Treil, Bunny and Hidngod for bringing me back into the fray, not that you really knew it at the time

:)

What a pleasant surprise to wake up to on a Sunday morning....SO glad you're back to logging. I can't tell you how much I've missed reading your daily posts! It was my way of keeping in touch with you despite all the distance between us :rose::heart:

DITTO!!! OMG... Merm... I SO had a dream about you last night. You seriously came to me in a dream, I was at my gym and there you were... I know not the reason behind it but know it makes sense to me.

:rose: If you need anything you know how to find me

I'm so glad to see you back.
It doesn't matter how often you get knocked down, as long as you keep getting back up. :bigkiss:

I LOVE those above quotes girlie... actually I miss my daily quotes too and posting them now that I think of it... my how I have gotten busy and lazy with my log :lmao: Well I am sure glad that our conversation on Friday could give you the kick start that you needed to get back in here! I missed your log as well... and i know you can stick to it as long as you got your mind in it! Plus writing down our goals are the easiest way to achieve them!! :rose:

That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved.

Thanks, Jens!! Except:

It's actually Tuesday here at 11.30am. I'm at work. I'm confused when daylight savings changes but I think I about 15ish hours ahead of you all, depending on where you are.

Energy/Mood: Mixed

Much better sleep though getting up at 5am hurt like hell. Not the best work day which put me in a more sombre mood. However, tonight went to the U2 concert - whenever a band plays in Oz you try hard to get tix as bands don't come here very often. We had to park ~3kms away from the venue so got in some extra cardio. Didn't plan food well so had a plain hot dog (best thing they had) hence the slightly off macros.

I had seen them before about 15 years ago and I must admit the only thing I remember about that show (and actually it's what I remember when I hear a U2 song) was being covered by some guy's pee, as after relieving himself in a cup, decided to throw it all over the people around him. I thought it was rain until the smell overcame me. So, tonight, even if U2 played like crap (which they didn't) I would have still had a better time this time around.

I'm wondering why I started journalling this week as socially it's a busy one, planned ages ago. See, trying to be perfect, I'm either totally "on" or "off". Got to stop trying to think like that.

Had 5 hours sleep from getting home late form the show and it makes me one cranky mermaid. My workout was OK, energy lacking to be honest but glad that I at least made it to the gym. Skipped the usual 25 mins cardio tonight. Got my wrist slapped and quite rightly so, for the low calories the past couple days so managed to increase a bit though the protein is still too low.

Hmmm wonder who would do such a think like that :FRlol: Yes darlin, that is MUCH better... but keep working on the protein... especially if you are wanting to add on some muscle which will help dropping some fat (all stuff you already know I am sure ;) ) HAPPPPPPPPPY BIRTHDAY hun!!!

I swear ONLY on EF would you find someone getting a wrist slap for NOT eating enough on her bday ... ;)

Energy/Mood: Energised from the AM cardio. The sun is up at 4.30am now so it's easier to get to the gym at that time - it's really warm now too.

MACA is a dried powdered form of a South American root vegetable, a bit like a radish - a nutrient dense superfood to promote hormonal well being. You'll see it advertised for men in particular but a friend of mine who is into natural remedies suggested that it works well for women too. I bought a small tub and I'm putting it into my whey shakes. I'll let you know if I feel any different ;)

Duckie - I love your avi :)

Roons - Next time ;)

MERMS!!!!!

This reminded me of you...

Wow, Vel, I LOVE that picture. Thanks so much :rose:

Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15, Thursday 16 November 2006

Spent the past three days on the road on business. Though I had packed a cooler with whey, almonds, chicken etc, I forgot the damn thing because my head wasn't on straight at 4am. This just reminded me how most hotel and plane food is so heavily carb laden. I did the best I could. I roughly counted calories but the macros were probably 50% carbs. Training was just cardio.

Diet Macros
Approx Total: 1650-1800 calories each day

Training
Wednesday and Thursday - 25 mins AM HIIT - treadmill

Supplements
Yeah, forgot these too.

Energy/Mood: Mentally tired as very busy in meetings. Pissed off that I forgot my food but happy that I didn't fall into junk/alcohol, especially as one of the meetings was an interview and I have never in my career to date, been so patronised by an egotistical, mysoginistic, officious wanker. Yes, 10 times worse than my boss! It amazes me how pricks like this enter into, and think they are experts in the HR/Recruiting industry - a field where people skills are paramount

It is going to take me a while to reach my goals - but I will meet them and I will not give up.

On behalf of real men, everywhere, I'd like to apologize for the wanker. I read somewhere that people will eventually rise to the level of their incompetence. Apparently he's there already.
Way to stay focused. It's so easy to fall out of the routine while travelling. :rose:

This just reminded me how most hotel and plane food is so heavily carb laden.

What I've done in the past (also prior to some food selection changes)... :worried:

Hard boiled eggs - I'd wrap 3 in paper towels then in a small baggy and put in my magazine/book tote that I'd take on the plane (not sure that would work now though with the recent changes in travel though  ).

When I would arrive at my destination I'd buy oats, romaine lettuce, no sugar apple sauce in the plastic serving size containers, mini boxed raisins (enough for one mini box per day), more eggs or tuna in the self opening can. You can boil the eggs in the hotel if they don't have a plug in kettle just but a cheapo one.

The tuna you can put in a long leaf of lettuce and eat like a taco (tastes pretty good with some raisins too).

Oats uncooked, with some apple sauce and some raisins - stir well - it's pretty tasty.

Eggs - well - their boiled eggs - you can also cut them up, add some raisins and eat in the leaf of lettuce like a taco.

I'm not sure what your schedule is like while traveling for work but mine usually means a lot of walking and running around - so the extra carbs did me well.

Awwww guys, you know how much I miss you and the US and to be only a short flight away from you would be awesome. One day maybe.......

Vel, those are some great ideas, thanks! I like the hard boiled agg thing, that would work well for me.

Were you doing the early morning cardio on previous programs? Just wondering if that's playing into it a bit with the mood/energy.

Either way, I heard every syllable of this sentence come out of your mouth "I have never in my career to date, been so patronised by an egotistical, mysoginistic, officious wanker" ... although I don't find humor in people like that, hearing you say it makes me smile ... I agree with the ladies, wish you were closer.

Have a great nice Merm.

Vel GREAT suggestions (i'm also laughing at the cranberry sig comment :FRlol: )

Wednesday thru Monday 22-27 November 2006

Diet Macros
It was within limits, though still not enough protein, until a cheat meal with drinks on Saturday. Then it all went downhill from there - Sunday was an utter junk fest.

Training
Morning cardio but no weights.

Supplements - every day
Multivit (1 cap)
B6 (1 caps)
Glucosamine (2 caps)
Glucorell (2 caps)
Sesapure (2 caps)
Apple cider vinegar w/ manuka honey (2 tsps)
MACA powder (1/2 tsp)

Energy/Mood: I am extremely busy at work lately, lots of travel and well, basically doing two jobs until my boss agrees to hire a replacement for my accounting assistant who left 2 months ago. So much for empowering your managers to actually manage their function, shit, don't get me started. My laptop at home is failing and can only work for about 10 mins at a time so I have to update my log here at work, but again, being so busy restricts my internet time. You may ask why my job doesn't provide me with a laptop, seeing as I am a Finance Manager and use spreadsheets, part of the senior management team, who ALL have one by the way, work long hours etc. but my boss doesn't want to spend the extra $500 on "just an accountant". OK, rant in full flow. I have been on 12 interviews over the past 3 months, got offered the ones I didn't want, passed over for those I did. Told I was too "strong", "strategic", "too experienced", "not experienced enough", advised that one particular role had to be more "gender specific". WTF? The vagina loses out again. So, Saturday I go girly shopping with my friends, try on some party dresses, had to go UP 2 sizes because I am basically in denial that I am 165 pounds and a size 16, those halogen lights in the dressing rooms are brutal. Realising that I've crossed the threshold into plus-size shopping (been a big gain since the US trip if I'm honest), I eat for England, drink 2 bottles of wine and have fallen into a junk fest ever since, using work, life, clothes, everything as an excuse for a lack of self esteem. Didn't help that this morning I overslept, got a call from my bank that my account is closed due to maxing out my overdraft only to find that I've been a victim of an internet fraud, and in an attempt to get back on the wagon, buy (on credit) fresh veggies, salads and organic flavoured olive oil/balsalmic/parmesan mix of which the bottle shattered going all over me, my car, the office (I trailed it in the bag, like the true bimbo I am), my new leather handbag (can't by clothes so buy leather). And my boss has just walked in and asked me why I smell so funny.

Yes, the sun will rise tomorrow, the world is mostly a beautiful, special place, my family and friends are safe and healthy, I have a job and a man that loves me, so why am I bitching? Because for some truly fucked in the head reason, I ALWAYS sweat the small stuff.

Tomorrow is another day.

My wife is a book keeper with a small company. It truly is a thankless job, with no recognition. Just watch them squall if she's not there, though.
Remember; Don't sweat the petty things, & don't pet the sweaty things. ;)

Is he paying you for 2 jobs?

So much for empowering your managers to actually manage their function, shit, don't get me started. My laptop at home is failing and can only work for about 10 mins at a time so I have to update my log here at work, but again, being so busy restricts my internet time. You may ask why my job doesn't provide me with a laptop, seeing as I am a Finance Manager and use spreadsheets, part of the senior management team, who ALL have one by the way, work long hours etc. but my boss doesn't want to spend the extra $500 on "just an accountant".

Go into work and tell him the laptop crashed and all his "financials" were on it ans since you only have 1 salary for 2 jobs you can't buy a new laptop right now and then mention that you hope he has receipts and invoices for everything.....

See what happens when you can't write your name in the snow........discriminating dirty rat bastards!

So, Saturday I go girly shopping with my friends, try on some party dresses, had to go UP 2 sizes because I am basically in denial that I am 165 pounds and a size 16, those halogen lights in the dressing rooms are brutal. ^^ being honest with yourself....that's a toughie but you did it. Sometimes we linger "under the wagon" to be sheltered from the rain.

Well did P lick it off? Nevermind I don't wanna know.

I think you will be just as beautiful and just as inspiring tomorrow as you are today.

Energy/Mood: Good. No cheat food but had some wine with dinner with friends. They hadn't seen me in 2 years and said I looked "healthy". Mmm, we all know what thet means :worried: But that's alright, I'm working on it.

Note to self - NEED MORE PROTEIN

Workout was just OK - love shoulders but I hate working arms.

Que

"healthy" Hmmmm....I like that more than 'sick anorexic"...
Merms....I say this to you, so maybe I could hear it for myself and put it into practice...
( I have not been able to, and it makes me miserable)
Accepting who I am, and what I do have, will set me free, will make me smile from inside, and be proud of how prescious I am....
there are millions who IN MY EYES are far better than me in their beauty, in their level of fitness, or even in their financial wealth....
Yet I was made for a reason and I must find that reason and not stall or get hooked on a body that will someday be really wrinkled and stiff by aches and pains...I should enjoy it now that it is healthy, and still working...and stop suffering because it is not long and lean, and on the cover of Vanity Fair...
It is the front cover of my life that I may be putting to waste by not being happy with what I DO have...
I hope it makes sense, and really gets us going to daily acceptance and happiness...
(please note daily acceptance is not giving in to chaos)

Not a lot of anything to be honest. Slight headache from the wine :worried: , didn't eat or exercise or sleep much. General feeling of self induced blah.

Energy/Mood: Shite day at work, actually serious stress, in panic mode almost - craving bad stuff but resisted, hence low cals. More protein - yay! But most excited because I joined a new gym. Literally upstairs from my old one; larger, new equipment, classes, SPIN - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Booked for tomorrow night already. Not that much more expensive either. Best stress release I know, apart from a few stiff martinis but that's not allowed around here now.

Que - I LOVE that froggy!

Badger - :wavey: Thanks! I love mermaid pics.

Thanks Mr H :)

And Flor - you made me well up - thank you so much, beautiful lady, VERY wise words :rose:

YAY for spin indeed :elephant: I hope you'll enjoy it. A lot is dependant on the instructor, but when done right, it's a great and fun cardio workout!

And good job on resisting and :lmao: at stiff martinis not being allowed

^^ what they all said about the new gym. Hope the self induced blah fades. I think that has been going around along with the random stomach flu.

Enjoy spin tonight. :rose:

Hey Gorgeous!!!
Was nice catching up with ya the other night, and I'm glad to hear that you are likeing the new gym so far... do a spin class or two for me would ya ;)

Energy/Mood: Another bad day at work - stress at all time high - technical stuff, not manager issues. Weird how my physical reaction is nausea and losing the will to eat - usually I'll stuff my face with junk for comfort. Need to think about why this has changed; not that it's a better/worse thing per se, but I just need to understand myself. Spin was awesome, largely due to the fact that it's hard to worry about stuff when you lose the ability to breathe. Seriously though, it was a great class and I'm going to become a regular. The last time I did a class was in 2001 and that was the last time I was in great shape. Fancy that

CK - much better now, thanks!

Will2 - hope you feel better too :)

Roony - absolutely!! Mmm, martinis :p

Bunns - :wavey: No more blahs :qt:

Energy/Mood: Well ditto on yesterday. Stressed out still but thought what the hell, do another spin class and forget about it for an hour. Different instructor - he rocked! So, look at what's happening here - too much cardio, not enough calories, I'll be skinny fat before I know it. No worries, just gotta do what I can to get through this really tough work situation. This, too, shall pass.
