Mermaid 2006

mermaid said:
I am going to the gym, mostly cardio as the weights area is very small and full of meatheads. Just as well as my strength is not up to par - I am extremely sleep deprived. The diet is not the best either; supplementing with protein twice a day but being fed my friends/family who just don't understand what I'm trying to do and as I'm only here a short time, I don't have the heart to offend.

I'm trying not to be so hard on myself - I am after all on "vacation" but the frustration is setting in. What makes it worse is that most of the people I have seen (and for the first time in a couple of years or so) think I have "piled" on the weight but I'm looking "chunky" and "solid" not fat, whatever that means. And then they give me a huge plate of pasta with garlic bread :worried:

Still, I'm in love with my niece and hanging out with her and my sister is just the best.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day everyone. I miss you guys!

You know, what only you know what's going on with you! Let them worry about their own body. They don't understand and that's where you have to mentally overcome their ignorance to what you are trying to accomplish. They just want to see you blow up huge by putting pasta in fornt of you, It's almost seems like a secret revenge... Push away the pasta stand up and walk around. Throw it in the garbage, or better yet garbage disposal. Stick with your own program.

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone. I really miss logging and reading but the internet access here is a bit restricted so I have not been able to catch up like I wanted to.

I'm having a fabulous time - it has gone so quickly - I shall be flying home on Sunday. Relapsed a little on the training/diet but not so much that I am worrying about it. I am amazed at how much I miss the gym and regularly eating egg whites.

Will be back full time next week!

OK, back in the land of Oz.

I was desperately upset to leave my family, many tears were shed. But my trip was a good one because it brought home some much needed sense of reality to my life.

I look and feel like crap though. I am so bloated from the journey that I even have cankles! So I am pounding the water and will cut down on carbs for the next few days until I am back to normal. Then back on to the 40:30:30 plan.

I'll resume logging from today. Glad to be back ladies and looking forward to catching up on your logs.

YAY, you're back!! :dance2: We've all missed you.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at home with your family and that you were able to benefit from the whole experience. Now de-bloat and get right back on that wagon...you CAN do it!! :friends:

Wednesday 1 March (it's March already??? - where did the time go??)

Did NOT want to get up.

7.30am
1 cup whites, 1 yolk
1 kiwi

Had to put up with everyone at work telling me I look like sh!t and why was I in the office today. That's the problem with having strict timelines for month end figures...

2 cups coffee, splash milk

11.00am Needed some carbs unfortunately:
2 slices Performax bread
3oz baked ham
1 tomato
1 slice RF cheese

3.00pm
3 scoop whey
2 scoop maltodextrin

6.30pm
5oz lean beef steak
2 cups mixed green vegetables
1 tbsp olive oil
Supps

Planned on a workout but just did not have the energy so now I have a second wind, just when I need to sleep. I have an early start in the morning for a phone conference and need my wits about me. Oh, it's going to be an interesting couple of days.

~1300 cals 53:20:27
4 liters water

WTF ... Are you sick? or just lacking sleep/stress?

Hope you feel better ... rest up

I assume it's jetlag. Taking a transatlantic flight ain't easy.

Btw, here's a tip I've discovered for airplane food on international flights: if you request the diabetic meal, you will get somewhat clean food. However, if you request for low-fat or low-cal meals, you will get crap

Aww .. Personally I can't stand when one co-worker in particular feels obligated to tell me I look like Sh1t when I obviously feel 100 times worse ...

 I wanna smack 'em upside the head for her

Thanks, Bunny. I'd like to take you up on that!!

RT, great idea. I do ask for the low cal option and just get a tray full of carbs. I like to take my own food but the flight was so long, I'd eaten it all by the time I'd got to Bangkok and then the food at the airport was either a) fast food or b) of Thai origin that I was not sure what I was getting. So plane food it was.

Something I have not told you yet is that I have some visitors coming on March 11 - IP and Nelms!!!! They are coming to Australia as part of their vacation and they asked if they could meet up with me and P. We've offered to let them stay in our apartment for the week - using it as a base for their travel. I am very excited to finally meet some of the lovely people I have contact with on this board (even though I'm now paranoid about the shape I'm in and I've only got a week to diet down, will they be disappointed in me etc. etc.)

It makes me want to reference SG's log where there was discussion about how we have made some great connections here on EF and how people just do not understand how that happens - after all it's "just an internet board". My sister even (bless her) is literally quite afraid that IP and Nelms will "steal our identities" or take everything we own because after all "we don't know them from Adam". I tried to explain but she just didn't get it. I didn't even tell my mother, she would have freaked out.

I hope to eventually meet more of you lovely ladies over the course of time. I feel blessed to have you all in my life and don't give a monkey's bum what "outsiders" think.

OMG!!!! That's so AWESOME!!!! Make sure you give us all the dirt on them!!! (wink, wink) Just kidding - love you guys!!!!

That is way too exciting!!! Why the hell is it so hard for people to understand that SOME people on the net are ACTUALLY who they SAY they are?!?!?!? Take some pics!

Yes, it is SO awesome they're coming!!!

Thursday 2 March

Oh dear, better than yesterday but energy levels still flagging and concentration lacking. Plus tomorrow night I go away for the weekend for my brother-in-law's wedding and christening of his baby and all I need is a quiet weekend resting (wah wah wah). Bought a really nice outfit for the event though - I actually look like a lady!!!

6.30am
1 cup whites, 1 yolk
1 kiwi

9.30am
1 wholemeal roll
3oz baked ham
1 slice RF cheese
1 tomato

12.30pm
3oz chicken breast
1/2 cup applesauce

3.00pm
3 scoop whey, 2 scoop maltodextrin

6.00pm
4oz broiled salmon
2 cups broccoli
Supps

1340 cals P:45 C:33 F:22 Fiber:20 2 liters water (not enough)

No gym. I know I should STFU and train but I am just so exhausted. I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to being tired - it takes me so long to repay my sleep debt. I'll be in bed by 7pm. I feel much better for the cleaner diet.

WOW, how exciting!! :rolly: I'm sure you'll all have a fabulous time and bond being the two awesome couples you are! :D I hope you'll be posting up what y'all are doing activity-wise and take some pictures for the rest of us. And remember if there is any vodka to be had at all, do have some in honor of me since I am there in spirit! :p :drink2:

I have no doubt you will look beautiful in your lady-like outfit this weekend!

And don't beat yourself for being too tired to go to the gym. Take the time to sleep off the jetlag and get back to being yourself. I took a 2 hr flight to Florida this weekend with no time difference and was still too beat for a day or two to get it together to work out. There is something about travel that zaps the energy out of you. Meanwhile, the diet looks great and I see that you scrambled back on that wagon fairly quickly! Good job :bigkiss:

Hi, everyone! Nelms and I are sitting here just grinning like you wouldn't believe! :nerd: :D

We are in Thailand and getting ready to go to Sydney, Australia. Woohoo! We'll be there for a few days, and then on to Auckland, New Zealand, and then to MERMAID'S!!!! :) :twirl: :arty:

We both miss you guys and hope you've had a great week and a wonderful weekend! We'll try to check back in a couple of days. :)

Mermaid and P, don't worry...your friends, mom, aunt, uncle, co-workers, neighbors, and stray animals have nothing to worry about! LOL! The only thing we'll "take" is memories and pictures!!! LOL! :)

:rose:

IP!!! Good to hear from you :rolly: I'm envious of your trip. That is my favorite part of the world and I have no doubt you'll have a blast. We miss you both, but I'm definitely happy to hear that you're both enjoying yourselves. Do check in whenever possible :bigkiss:

Friday 4 March

6.30am
1 cup whites, 1 yolk
1 cup bran cereal
1/2 cup FF milk

10.00am
3 scoop whey

12.30pm Succumbed to peer pressure and joined everyone for a Company BBQ to celebrate its 60th birthday. Ignored all the creamy salads, sodas, chips etc. and just had:

1 plain hamburger on a small soft bread roll

4.00pm
2 slices Performax bread
2 tbsp almond butter (aah, I've missed you)

7.30pm Dinner with in-laws prior to wedding
3 large black figs - did not eat sauce that came with them
1/2 cold steamed mud crab
2 cups of a very interesting salad (yellow grape toms, snow peas, asparagus, rocket)
1 cup fries
4 summer stone fruit (apricot, plum)
1/3 cup pannacotta (just a taste really)

Not toooo bad.

Totals before dinner:
958 cals P:37 C:35 F:29

It is blowing a gale and has rained non stop for 3 days (hope this changes for IP and Nelms :worried: ); the wedding is going to be a wash out. I might not be able to post until Sunday night unless there is internet access in the hotel. So have a good weekend everyone!! :)

The Weekend

The wedding was great although it rained non stop for the whole 48 hours. Even though P said I looked fab in my new outfit, I felt like absolute sh!t because I'm still a bit bloated (fat ankles, popping out of my bra). Plus my food choices were limited and not the best. I drank champagne and regretted it today - I got my usual sinus issues when drinking the grape and I'm sure that did not help the bloat either. However, I was not hungover :verygood:

P has promised to drag my bloated a$$ to the gym at 5am tomorrow. I know I will absolutely not want to get up but I've got to get back into it and there's nothing like early morning cardio to slap you into shape.

No, didn't do the AM cardio and had a guilt trip all day about it. So ate clean and went to the gym tonight. It was bursting to the seams with grunters(being a Monday) so did 45 mins cardio.

6.30am
1 cup whites, 1 yolk
2 slices Performax bread
1 tbsp honey

9.30am
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup blueberries
1 tbsp almond butter

1.00pm
3oz chicken breast
1 cup broccoli florets

4.00pm
1/3 cup natural trail mix (was all I had)

6.30pm Gym
45 mins cardio - treadmill - intervals
4mph @ 0-10% incline

7.30pm
4oz chicken breast
9 asparagus spears
1 tbsp cranberry sauce

1277 cals P:41 C:28 F:31 Fiber:18g

Tuesday 7 March

8.00am
2 slices Performax bread
1 tbsp honey
3 scoop whey

11.00am
1 cup tuna
1/2 avocado
1/2 cup coleslaw
1 cup broccoli

3.00pm
2 slices Performax bread (I know, too much bread)
2/3 cup cottage cheese

Both bosses in town for my formal review tomorrow. Was invited out to dinner so accepted - needed to schmooze, hate it though, it's not really me.

7.00pm
5 large grilled king prawns w/ garlic and olive oil
1/4 cup jasmine rice

That was all I could stomach. Refused some expensive wine, bread and dessert.

Totals before dinner:

1106 cals P:44 C:25 F:31 Fiber:27g

I have upped my water intake to around 4 liters per day and feel much better for it.

Thanks, W. Fall out of the groove too easily though......not today however.

Wednesday 8 March

5.30am Gym
30 mins Cardio - treadmill
Oh, I was such a miserable bitch as I just hated getting up. Started intervals, threw a little tantrum in my head, got really pissed off so just ran (well, that's a fast jog for everyone else) for the rest of the time. I'm having a hard time re-establishing my workout routine. I'm sure Nelms will pull me out of that next week - the :velvett: will be out

Ate meal 1 at work, just as the bosses turned up.

8.00am
2 slices Performax bread
1 tbsp honey
3 scoop whey

1 cup strong coffee, splash milk

12.00pm
1 cup tuna
1/2 cup coleslaw
1/2 avocado

Had my review - no ass kicking, it was very positive :) Next meal was late because of it.

4.00pm
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup blueberries
1 tbsp almond butter

7.00pm
3oz chicken breast, grilled
3oz beef steak, grilled
1 cup mixed steamed vegetables
Supps

P is having a vodka cran and I refused even though a stiff drink would have gone down well right now :verygood: I have to congratulate myself for every small win at the moment.

Did well with the water again - another 4 liters.

1435 cals P:45 C:18 F:37 Fiber:25g

Congrats on the positive review!! :elephant: It certainly sounds like you work hard....and more kudos for turning down that vodka too. :verygood:

I love those mornings!!! I was there last year when I did a.m. intervals.
I would get all pissy and stuff but the results are priceless :)

Mermaid you better get a move on before you get attacked by the crazy cotton ball!

Just pick yourself up and push yourself to do it. I think we all get to the point where we just get to the end of the road and feel like we are out of it but that's where you gotta dig deep and push on honey just push on.

Hi, Mermaid, I'm just catching up on some reading, wanted to see how things were going for you. I agree with momsgettifit, dig deep and press on, you can do it!!

OMG :lmao:

You are too funny.

Guess I've been well and truly :velvett:

I'll never think about Bunny in the same way again..........

Friday 10 March

I suck.

8.00am
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup blueberries
1 tbsp almond butter

12.00pm Lunch out
About 5oz poached chicken breast
About 1 oz poached salmon
Did not eat lemon sauce that came with it
1/2 cup mashed potatoes

3.30pm
3 scoop whey

7.00pm
2 slices thin crust ham and mushroom pizza
2 vodka w/ soda water

No gym again.

I weighed myself. I have the super duper version of the Tanita scales. Regardless of how variable the fat monitor can be, I'm still going to post up my weight and body fat every Friday.

I'm embarrassed (but not that surprised as gym motivation is lacking) to report this but:

157 pounds

and

28.5% body fat

...which is odd as it's the lowest body fat reading I have ever had on that thing but then I am drinking 4 liters water a day now which affects the measure.

And I now know for a fact that Nelms will royally kick my ass :worried:

Saturday 11 March

Oh. My. Goodness.

So, I get up early and spend the day cleaning, shopping etc. getting ready for my guests.

8.00am
2 oatmeal protein pancakes
1 tbsp almond butter
1/4 cup blueberries
1/2 tbsbp maple syrup

12.00pm
4oz chicken breast

3.00pm
2 slices Performax bread
1 tbsp almond butter

5.30pm
3 scoop whey protein

And then we go to the airport.

I was actually quite nervous. But then what I'm doing does seem strange to most people, except those on this board who understand. So, at arrivals I wander around and a really cute couple catch my eye. I only recognised IP from the photo of her eye that is in Nelm's journal. I hugged them like old friends - goodness knows what they thought - but what the hell. And now they're here, in my apartment, watching a movie while I type. It is so weird!

IP is gorgeous - P says that I'm twice her size (it's true) - she is in great shape and I can't believe she's been bulking for the past few weeks. They both put P and I to shame where the physique are concerned. Nelms is not like I imagined, he looks so young! Both are such great people.

Guys, I am so glad you're here

We had dinner at our local Japanese.

9.00pm
5 scallop teryaki
About 1 cup steamed vegetables
3 small cups sake (almost felt like I had to ask for permission to drink! LOL)

They're threatening to join us at the gym tomorrow :worried:

This will be fun. Have a great weekend everybody.

Hey, everyone! My turn! LOL!

So, we're at the airport and Nelmsjer and I are discussing what Mermaid looks like (from her photos here). We remember that she has brown hair and is also somewhat short. 3 minutes later...a voice from behind us says "IP?", and there she was!!!

Let me say this: Mermaid is WAY too hard on herself! I am NOT twice as large as she is...not even close. She is a beautiful woman, both physically and in terms of her personality. This is going to be so much better than I even imagined...Nelmsjer and I are very excited!!! The four of us have already had some great conversations, and they are just truly great people...we look forward to many more talks!

Well, they have gone to bed, and Nelmsjer and I are super tired. We're looking forward to a great day tomorrow and wonderful week ahead! :) Everyone have a great weekend! :rose:

Awwww, I'm so excited for you guys!!! .....and so jealous - lol

I hope you have a great time!

Have a WONDERFUL time, guys!!! Thanks for sharing and please keep the details coming....like SG said, I'm also jealous but we're there in spirit.

Sunday 12 March

9.00am
1 cup cooked oats
Drizzle maple syrup
1 cup whites, 1 yolk w/ pepper, onion, mushroom (courtesy of Nelms)

1.00pm
2 slices Performax bread
4oz chicken breast
1/2 avocado
1 slice swiss cheese

Discovered that green tea is very good iced.

3.00pm Gym :verygood:
Oh yes, and it was an AWESOME workout - they kicked my ass big time:
All 5 sets by 7 reps
Squats
Bench
Deadlifts (while IP and Nelms did power cleans, OMG)
Military Press

For such a petite young lady, IP is a powerhouse of strength. I am truly in awe. And I need to pick up my game. The best thing about it was that Nelms and IP helped me mentally,

though,

I can't give up the gloves yet!!!!

4.30pm
3 scoop whey, 2 scoop malto

7.30pm
2oz chicken breast
3oz beef fillet w/ 1 tsp horseradish

Sounds like IP and Nelms need to tour the world, stop at each one of our home towns and go with us to our gyms to show us how it's done ;) :p

6.45am
1 cup whites, 1 yolk

8.00am

IP and Nelms go hard, harder, hardest! All 5 sets, 7 reps:
Front squats - I was very dubious but they were good - I think my quads will be sore tomorrow
Pull ups - the only one who couldn't do it unassisted was me. Gee, IP is a strong chick
DB Incline press - reached an all time personal best on the last set (but then it's amazing what an audience can do)
Needsize Abs - don't want to talk about it, LOL, and couldn't speak after it anyway!

8.30pm
3 scoop whey, 2 scoop malto

9.45pm (Eek, not comfortable with eating this late - have to get that out of my head)
4oz pork tenderloin
1 cup broccoli
1/2 cup brown rice
Supps

1705 cals P:47 C:28 F:25 Fiber:22g 4 liters water

Ok, I know you don't want to talk about them, but what exactly are these? Can you describe them? I'm always looking for ab work ideas.

Glad your spirits are up! IP and Nelms sound like the best kind of houseguests to have. :)

I can't do unassisted chin/pull ups (although I always do wide grip, never tried an underhanded close grip). Just focus on your form & one day, they'll just happen. Doesn't make you any LESS than the others.

:)

If my BIG butt (__I__) can be lifted in the air by me....you should go up easy! I started out not being able to do one 4 weeks ago....my 'ex' partner (lol) would help by supporting my ankles....and now I can do it!

Keep trying and in no time you'll have it!

Oh Treilin, :) I can always share my good vibes - coming your way, girl

Roony - Needsize is a guy on the EF WL board. Basically, decline abs with weight, holding on the way down for 5 seconds (come down to within 5 inches or so from pad, hold for 5 sec, lower, then sit up etc etc. ) 5 sets of 5.

Thanks, MGF, Aries13 and Bunns - you guys

Wednesday 15 March

Quads.....are sore
Abs........are sore
Bi's.........are sore

6.45am I was NOT hungry from the late meal yesterday:
1 cup whites, 1 yolk

10.00am
3 scoop whey
1oz almonds

12.30pm
Picked up the guys from their morning hike, had some lunch and played hookey for the rest of the day
Tandoori chicken sandwich, pineapple salsa, tossed half the bread
1 potato wedge w/ dip (OK, Nelms ordered them, not me)

4.00pm
1 large tbsp ANPB
1/2 cup applesauce

No gym because we bought vodka ;)

:martini: :martini: :martini:

Toasting all the great gals on EF but specifically, Roony, one was for you and the other for you, Bunny   For the dry gals on the board right now.......... Oh and the other for me, LOL

6.45pm
2 oz beef
2 oz chicken
1/2 very large sweet organic potato homegrown by one of the crazy ladies I work with
4 aparagus spears

and the highlight of the day:

Watching IP eat her first brussel sprout - oh dear me, :lmao: She's not a fan.

I had 5 with shredded parmesan

No macros because I'm a bit numb now.

But it was another great day :)

Hey MGF :rose: Hope it's better in your world.

Friday 17 March

Big cheat day today. No regular meals, no training, a few vodkas thrown in at dinner tonight. We went out to a fun restaurant - the final night for my guests - and we had a blast. I will miss them so much, they are truly awesome people  (and we WILL see you again one day).

Weigh in Friday:

156 pounds (lost 1 pound, woo hoo)
28.3% bodyfat

A good week for weights and diet not so bad (though had one too many cheats). Realise that I can not away with minimal cardio so will step it up next week.

Have a great weekend everyone :)

The Weekend

Made Miss24k's pancakes for IP and Nelms, which they loved. We then walked the beach for about 90 mins and had lunch at the local surf club. We took them back to the airport late afternoon :(

I forgot to put sunscreen on my stomach before we walked and once the sun went down the pain set in. We had to cancel a birthday dinner with my brother in law and I basically slept for 15 hours. Sunday was a write off too - I didn't wear a hat so my scalp was burned and I really just slept on and off all day. Lost my appetite too. But when I was awake I drank a lot of water and applied aloe vera.

I am such an idiot!

Monday now, back at work, still a bit nauseous, but more determined than ever to achieve my goal. Following in Roony's and Bunny's footsteps to try and help my mental strength, I will attempt alcohol free/junk free periods. I have a work function on March 30 so from now until then I will be clean. The weekend will be the hardest point as always. I know it's only 10 days but I have to start somewhere.

LOL @ the cheerleaders, thanks getnfit06!

I've also decided just to post up my log once per week, with all the details. It will make it easier for me to see a pattern in my thinking day by day and also the record of cals and weights. I'm going to see how motivating the numbers are for me, in terms of pounds, bodyfat and increase in weights during training. PLUS, I'll post pics once every 4 weeks. I have to make these promises to myself and kick my head into gear.

So, next log will be Sunday 26 March, pics too (once the sunburn has subsided, LOL).

Still reading though - need my daily EF fix :)

I am so sorry to hear about your sunburn Mermaid!! If it makes you feel ANY better both nelms and I came away with quite a burn as well :( We went and got a Thai massage yesterday and wow did the burn sting!! LOL oops - guess the sunscreen didn't work so well...

Great job on the decision to have 10 consecutive clean days! You are so right, you have to start somewhere and that is certainly an attainable goal! YOU CAN DO IT!! ;)

We are currently at the Singapore airport, about to start our long journey back home! WHOAA We will, hopefully, be back in the office and back on the board in about 3-4 days.

I miss you guys already :worried:

Mermaid, IP & I miss you and P, already. We were sad EFers at the airport. :( You guys are awesome, and we can't wait to return the favor. :)

Everyone, this was one of the coolest things that IP and I have done. We couldn't have asked for more amazing people to meet and actually stay with. Mermaid and P are the kindest and generous people you can imagine. We won't forget it and are already trying to figure out how to get back together down the road. :)

Mermaid, remember the talk at the art studio and keep pushing forward. You are an awesome person, and you can always count on this: you have 2 crazy Americans that will always believe in you, your ability, and your capabilities. Use it. :)

We'll look forward to your next log on Sunday. :) :wavey: Say hello to P!

Make that THREE CRAZY AMERICANS!!!!!

LOL, thanks guys

Talk about crazy, my sunburn is still so bad, the "crazy sweet potato lady" I work with brought in an Aloe Vera plant from her garden - I am now slathered in natural sticky aloe gel and it's working a treat. Trouble is my desk, shirt, fingers are covered in it too - they're all a lovely green colour now!

I am so lucky to know some nice people....... :)

Just dropping in to say Hello to you girlie...I hate getting sun burned. Aloe vera from the fridge always works the best for me. Those colloidal oatmeal baths never seamed to relieve the itching or the burn.

Got to LOVE the "crazy sweet potato lady"!!! She can send us sweet potatoes WHENEVER she wants!! LOL

I am glad to hear that the aloe is helping, though it DOES get everywhere - one big, green, sticky mess!!

Have you been able to make it into the gym at all this week? How are the ten dry days going? :qt:

Nelms and I are stuck for a day or so, but we will hopefully make it home SOON!! grrrrr ;)

Nelmsjer: "Mermaid, I didn't know you liked basketball."

Mermaid: "That's not a basketball. It's a sweet potato from the crazy sweet potato lady"

Nelmsjer: "Oh. That's why it is in the oven, then."
