Member Vid Thread (work in progress, post 'em up and lets get this started!)

Protobuilder

New member
Note: This is a working thread and not the finished product!!

We're hoping to build a nice thread consisting of member's training vids. This is the "work in progress" thread. Throw up your vids and links to threads where they've been critiqued (if applicalbe) and also post your ideas on how best to set this up. After we get some ideas and stuff to work with, we can format it all and start a new thread/sticky that doesn't look like a jumble of shit. LoL

The vids don't have to be awesomeness. The good, the bad, and the ugly are acceptable. Frankly, people can learn more from some of the bad/mediocre vids and the ensuing critiques that have followed. We've had some solid critiques on squats & cleans, for example, from some of the knowledgeable members, including Glenn Pendlay.

I'll start w/ the one lame squat vid & critique thread I've got:

http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=469916

Yours can't be any worse than that so post 'em up!

There is already a deadlifting video thread around somewhere, maybe a link to that thread could be posted and all new dedlift vids go there?

i'll start a squat thread and a clean thread maybe..

Um, the whole point of this thread is to consolidate all the vids out there. Starting separate threads for "curls done in a squat rack (bandana)", "curls done in a squat rack (no bandana)", and so on defeats the purpose.

Oh, and bump for Guinness, Tweakle, and others who've posted vids in recent journals.

yea, i got several vids in my thread, as well as in some other posts on here.

Im also holding a DEADLIFTING comp today with several buddies from the GYM so ill have a nice set of vids from it as well!

But this is great, i would be great if we could somehow later, throw all the videos into the first post so people dont gotta go all over reading/looking for them.

Yeah, that's the plan. We'll either have a mod edit the first post into a table of contents (as was done with the huge-ass 5x5 thread) or create a new directory thread once more stuff has been added.

Looking forward to the vids...I'd add some, but, uh, I haven't ever recorded any.

Maybe it's just me, I like things more organized. have this thread as a sticky and have link to a dedlift vid thread, squat vid thread, curls I the squat rack with a yellow bandana vid thread..

that way if you're looking for a specific lift you don't have to sift through tones of other vids to get the ones you want.

The actual vid threads can just be regular threads as we will have quick access to them via this sticky.

Just my .02c

The first post could look like this.

Deadlift vids = link to specific thread here

Squat vids = link to specific thread here

Clean cids = link to specific thread here

Bench vids = link to specific thread here

Quick and easy reference.

I agree that organization at some point will be necessary if the vids are to be a useful part of the forum. But right now, as I said before, I think the main task is just getting vids in one place and seeing what we have. A table of contents (which will of course be organized by lift and link directly to the post with the vid link) will make which thread the video is in irrelevant. I'll be saving the links to the posts as people put stuff in this thread and labeling them based on what was posted, and PB will probably be doing something similar. It'll be a lot easier to monitor one thread than 10 or however many there'd be if we dedicated one to each of the lifts that are common around here.

Yeah DJ, couldn't we just do this:

Deadlift Vids:
Deadlift Vid 1
Deadlift Vid 2
Deadlift Vid 3

Bench Vids:
Bench Vid 1
Bench Vid 2
Bench Vid 3

etc...

That way when people post to the thread a mod could edit the original table of contents and add the new video link to it.

For sure, that would be the ideal perfect situation, but it requires a lot of work from the mod and /or Protobuilder as he started this thread.

We had a proposal to have a "Members' Vids" thread a while back. Each post would contain a vid and a link to somewhere else for comments, so the thread wouldn't get full of comments.

How about in addition to that, we maintain an index in the first post that's updated periodically?

heres a copy from my thread, just updated

What’s up the wonderful world of EF!!

Log update. This was my BDAY weekend, so a lot of Drinking, and not so much training, but hey I HAD A LOT OF FUN! Lol. But training is back!

I had the Deadlift competition on Friday. Amazing.

Got there and REALLY PULLED MY ASS OFF.

Contestants/ Max Lifts / Weight at Lift
Me : 423lbs @ 180lbs
Kevin : 331lbs @ 160
Tom : 485lbs @ 165
Joey : 463lbs @ 170

Video Links
Mike Deadlifts 423 @ 185

Tom Deadlifts 485lbs @ 165lbs

Joey deadlifts 465 @ 165

The gym record is 501 @ 165. We were all having fun in the Deadlift area, when the Gym owner (TEDDY) comes in, and sees the weight loaded on the bar, and sees all of us under 200lbs. And starts asking us training length/weight/etc. When we told him he was stunned that TOM is only 165. and That I only had been training for 3 months. He told us about the competition, coming up and wants us too be in it. He told me some tips, etc. I want to be pulling 500 in couple months =]

I ultimately would like to see something just like that. In the meantime, as CS said above, I'd like to just collect all the vids in this thread and possibly links to threads where those vids are critiqued, and after we get a good chunk, we can organize them as above. And from there, we've got a decent sticky candidate that can be edited to add vids as people post 'em. I'm apparently a bad man for the job b/c I haven't tended to this in awhile.

Here are some row vids from today's workout just b/c. If I can post my shit-ass vids, everybody should feel free to post theirs. LoL Don't start critiquing them in this thread b/c this thread will eventualy wither and die. This is just a "collection point."

Bump.

We could use a volunteer or two to start going through journals, surfing through old posts, maybe running some searches, to find any and all vids that may be floating around EF. Find them, and add them to this thread, and ultimately, they'll get plugged into a shiny new "Member's Vids" Sticky!

Ill start reading em all tommarow, im busy now at work =]

I wouldn't mind some crits and comments on my deadlift and maybe my military press, so i will see if i can borrow a cam. In the next couple of weeks.

I thought about that too but once it gets stickied and locked, we'd have to pester a mod every time we wanted to edit it to add a new video. Right now, let's just try to get a nice collection going in this thread and then we'll put 'em all in a nice, clean, locked sticky. Hopefully we'll have a mod hanging around here often enough that it won't be too much trouble for them to add new vids as they come up. Guys like Blut Wump and Cynical Simian are around pretty much daily so it wouldn't be too much trouble to get them to add new vids as they arise.

I appreciate you hunting down vids, MM107. Thanks a lot.

yea , blut wump and CS are here daily, i know this because i am too! lol, So hopefully when all is settled, a good bro gets picked (yes GS we have alot of good bros in the training area too!) and since he/she would be a daily visitor here, our stickies would be well maintained. Its time to take over EF! lol This forum should be as big or almost as big as the AAS one. =] (U need to train right first before AAS anyway!! lol)

Nice, DJ. Now if we could jsut get BiggT to buy a camera and put up some clips of BTN jerking, cleans, and jump shrugs . . .

MM107 -- Tweakle has lots of vids in his journal . . . he's a beast.

405 3 x 3 reset - Here I was forcing myself to lead with my shoulders and keep my hips down.. some very slow, very tough reps. I'm not a natural sumo puller and my body wants to use my back instead of my hips to initate the pull which isn't gonna happen until my glute heals.

I should have gotten his warmup sets on video. He always cleans the weight incredibly easily.

Hope illuminati doesnt mind. I wouldnt with a amazing 585lb deadlift.

Illuminati said:
Tuesday I decided to deadlift again, even though I had gone for a max on Thursday last week (only 5 days of rest). I had planned on attempting 585 RAW, but after I got to 565, the owner of the gym, asked if I was going to go suited. I told him my suit hadn't gotten in yet. He had this old ass marathon deadlift suit (it was about 15 years old) that he said that he would let me try it out. I put it on for the 585 attempt. Nailed it pretty solid. Then attempted 600. I missed the 600, but it was close. Maybe if I hadn't wasted so much energy with the RAW lifts, and had a week rest from the last max out, maybe i would have gotten it. Can't say for sure. But I'm gonna go for it again next week.
Anyways, here are the videos. I'm too lazy to edit them, and make them shorter. I weighed myself in on the day at 212. If you look at the bar, you might think that 600 isn't loaded on it. When I did the 585 we had the small (1lb) collars on the bar, when we went to 600, we added the 2.5 plates, and used the big collars (10lb collars).

I have a video of my cleans, I think they need help, the thread is here.

Well it finally happened today. For those of you who don't follow my log, I started the linear 5x5 workout 5 weeks ago. I started deadlifting two weeks before that and my goal was a 500lb deadlift. So today on week 7 I pulled it.

Thanks to Mike for the good competition.

Now to the video:

500x1:

Lockout was slow....oh and you form Nazis keep in mind this was a true maximal effort and my working weight form is much crisper.

I followed up with 405x5 (PR by 15lbs). I'll post that video later.

Here it is:

The form is off due to the fact that this is post 500 and I am tired. I know I shouldn't set the weight down like that but it was tough to think and I usually don't do that.

Comments please!!

Im proud as hell to hit 405x1, and then deadlift 485.
I also only used the suit because i didnt want to unstrap and take it off for the deadlift. For the squat i wanted to use it because i wanted to know what 405 felt like on top.

Thanks!
Its so fuckin hot here in NY its about 100+ w/ the heat index. Looks like ill be relaxing for a couple days....

Posted my first vid in another thread. Quick synopsis - I have to lay off squats/deads/oly lifts until the tendonitis in my knees clears up. Or just get surgery and lop off my legs altogether.

Figured in the meantime to up my pressing strength and work on a few upper back movements.

For pressing I am using the 1-6 routine from Poliquin (http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=459575)

06.07.24 close grip bench
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8zDQgr_ZaM

06.07.30 close grip bench
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TInmDdSQX4

Second workout suffered from a couple of things: having done a shoulder workout 48 hours prior and it was Sunday. I hate lifting on Sundays.

Will post up links to upcoming workouts as they happen. Goal is to work up to a 405# close grip bench (12"-14" space between hands).

I've got my first competition coming up at the end of next month. 200lbs on an 8" log, so I was practicing a little on my 10" to work on leg drive and technique. I'm hoping for a dozen or so in competition. I'll have my wife video tape that and post it.

Letme tell you guys, Friday's workout was complete ass. Once i got in i had NO motivation WTF right? the gym was empty and just wasnt feeling comfortable going for 360x5 w/o a good spotter. Im going to drop the weight to 320 and add weight to the bar constantly all week.

But i did manage to get some videos uploaded:
Ab Station 1. MM's Abs. Situps w/ BAR
Ab station 2. Side Oblique Crunches w/ Band
Mike Deadlifting 485w/ Bands(for bottom of lift) ( Remember i came back and hit 575x1 just my video cam turned off)

Training will be off this week. Making the conclusion to the short film i did. This movie is gonna be atleast 20mins...

Story line in the MOVIE:

My GF was murdered by my alcoholic father, and then i murdered my father. Now im on the run from the LAW, and this 'pimp' who my GF used to work for is after me because he thinks i killed his 'ex love'. Filmed in the tough streets of Queens,NY. This will be fun as hell, training will suffer, BUT NOT REALLY because i will be going after shooting the film LATE tho (10pmish)

Yeah I can dip back under the log. Press it, jerk it, doesn't matter.
It's the most number of reps in a minute. So he would have let us take whatever time we wanted in between tries...if it fell within the minute limit. Once 60 secs is done, your turn is over.

HUGE LOG UPDATE HERE!

What is up everyone? Here is my HUGE log update. Well not too huge, just 3 days lol. Squatted yesterday and hit HUGE numbers....

(Since training for competition i have been going for singles, so i dont remember my warmup weight)

Friday:

Deadlifted - Worked my way up to 517.

Saturday:
Squat - Worked up to 560 in my 'new' suit. Couldnt break parralel.

Monday:
Squat - Worked up to 560x1 and got it parrelel. Then i did 605 x 1. Broke Parallel. Actually had my 'coach' rob watch my depth. He is the one screaming LOWER.....LOWERRRRRRR....on the video lol

Notes: Why did i squat monday after sat? because i felt saturday's squat was cheap. I had no spotters so i couldnt go too crazy. When i got in the gym yesterday my boy Joey and my 'coach' Rob was there Deadlifting heavy, so i knew this why my chance for a heavy squat. Besides i didnt break parrallel on SAT so i didnt work my legs hard enough.

Additional Notes: I really fucked up my face tho. Popped blood vessels everywhere. Looks like i got freckles, wich i know will go away in another 2 days like usual. BUT i popped vessels in my eyes. One in the left one and one in the right. Not really visisble unless i move my eye because it is in the corner of it. BUT im wearing glasses all this week and not training untill Friday so my eyes can breath alittle more.

man, strong as shit on those. Only thing is I would sacrifice some weight for your form on deadlifts, It's easy to think we're superman, but you could easily get injured pulling like that and be out of the game for a while. Better safe than sorry...GL

Illuminati... sick work..

The pins on the power rack for the GM's seem so high.. and yet you don't seem to touch them at the end of the movement, right? I might have to start incorporating seated GM's into my arsenal.

i could have put them one lower, but if I got in trouble, i would have been squished with my chest stuck to my thighs. I know they look high, its kind of the angle of the camera. at the bottom of the lift, my chest was on my thighs. Really couldn't get much deeper, unless i spread my legs a little, and allowed my chest to go past my thighs

Since it's been 2 months since anyone has posted anything, I'll see if I can get this thread going again. Here's a few from a couple of weeks ago.

Link to yesterday's close grip bench workout:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHKSvG7t0gQ

Have not benched since January of this year. Switched to military press, dips, and assistance work in general for triceps and shoulders. Figured since I am eating way over maintenance calories - why not have some fun and run a couple cycles of Poliquin's bench routine.

Next workout is seven singles and 275 for 5x5. After the sixth workout (eight singles) - the weight goes up 15-20 pounds.

Anyways - enjoy and shoot me any comments.
