Well guys, in the process of planning my upcoming diet, I've come to consider some meat packages at local meat markets. I'll be needing nearly 50lbs of meat a month and am wanting a good variety of different meats. I havn't bought from any meat markets in the past and was wondering you guys' thoughts? Thanks everybody!

Chris

I'll go to them for bbq holidays and stuff but might start going to them for my monthly food because buying meat and poultry at safeway is starting to get really expensive. I'm pretty sure you get a really good deal, adleast the one by my work is pretty decent.

gotta admit...when i read the title of this thread i thought it pretained to social life settings....

YUP my local is called Sonnenbergs Meat Market and I get T- Bones for $4.99 per pound!!
Extra lean ground beef 1.99 lb.
No supermarket can touch that consistently, it saves me driving around ;looking for deals and is MUCH higher quality meat.
Cut right there, usually less than 24 hours before.
cheers

Are you going to freeze the meat?

Preferably not. I'll be ordering twice a month, every 2 wks. Cooking will be on Sundays and Wednesdays of each week. Anyone see a problem with any of this?

Chris

If you have a large freezer like a chest freezer or something talk to your local butcher about buying a full hind quarter and making the cuts for you. Maybe you have a mate to go halves with you..
Buy a cryovac machine if you dont want to use a freezer as this will keep it fresh much much longer.
