Personally I know I have more energy when I go a few days without any sexual satisfaction. If I release my load more than twice a day, I usually feel sluggish for a few hours or for the rest of the day. Workouts aren't nearly as intense, and I don't feel the same edge that I usually have. But like I said, I usually try to refrain from sexual activity and it keeps me more energized. I also read somewhere that some a coach for a South American soccer team urged his players not to have sex days before the big game in order to keep the energy level up. And there was also a movie where some football player was about to get head or some such, and smashed this girls head in, and told her that he had to save his energy for the game. Some stupid horror movie. So there may be some validity to the reasoning, but I don't think it has as much to do with recovering. Just keep the sex in moderation and you'll be good to go.
