Making Your Own ZMA

Slugfast

New member
Hey folks, I have a ZMA related question for anyone who currently makes their own ZMA stack out of seperate pills.

I recently tried the ZMA HP by EAS and had some good results, noticeably better sleep, some strength gains (without really working out much harder than I was normally- I was on a maintainance workout/cutting phase).

My question regards the compostion of ZMA.
1) most major ZMA brands contain ~30mg Zinc monomethionine/aspartate, as well as ~400mg Magnesium aspartate, and ~12.5 B6
(Q.) Could I substitute the Zinc mono/aspartate for Zinc Gluconate? Also can I substitute the Magnesium Aspartate for Magnesium Oxide? Because I currently have a Zing/Magnesium pill that has 10mg Zinc Gluconate and 267mg Magnesium Oxide.
Also can I substitute the B6 for a B complex Vitamen.

I dont see how there would be too many problems as long as the minerals are in the correct proportions, but Im not sure if the "A" in ZMA stands for the Aspartate solely (and it is a primary factor in effective ZMA products) or if the mineral itself (ie the Zinc and the Magnesium and the B6) are responsible for the actions produced by ZMA Complexes I have tried.

Any info is appreciated.

I recall reading a post earlier about someone using Zinc Gluconate with some effectiveness, but it wasn't very indepth and I was trying to figure out if I could come up with a $5 replacement for a 2 month supply instead of shelling out $18 for a one month supply of EAS ZMA HP or ZMass PM.

Magnesium oxide is not a good choice

try Mg amino acid chelated if you can't find Mg aspartate

Yeah Im considering returning it to Target... both bottles were like $2.58 a piece for a bottle of Zinc/Mag and a B Complex bottle.

Ill probably just return if they will not be very effective compared to Normal ZMA.

zinc lowers copper levels. I just found a zinc supplement w/ 50mg of zinc and 2mg of copper. As far as the other minerals, many of them are as important or even more important than magnesium. A good multimineral is better choice for you.
