Lulu's Journey on The Shadow Project

LuluDeren

New member
I just looked through the sticky on The Shadow Project, read through Treilin, Florencia, and ~Enuf~'s threads and decided to start The Shadow Project.

As ~Enuf~ mentioned, I can't access the Spreadsheet, nor Parts 1-3, either.

I am planning on starting it this Sunday after I get everything organized. I have a question regarding the supplements...I can only afford the protein powder and a fat burner...what would the best choice be for the fat burner? Because I don't have the other supplements, should I expect depreciated results?

My stats:
5'6"
130 pounds
BF%....I don't know yet, I call it spongey, though. I will have to invest in some calipers (does Walmart have 'em? LOL)

Thanks everyone!

Train hard.....forget about the fat burners at this point.

You need a baseline diet with protein supplementation - this will give an idea of what the diet and training are accomplishing - then add the fat burners etc

Welcome and IF you are faithful...You will see results...
Food is always around, it won't go anywhere, change your habits , it's a lifestyle, and be proud to be different, (because you will get hell from some people about diet change).
Be proud for being brave enough, to change what you do not like and train hard.
Pain is only temporary and will go away...
If you are tempted to not workout, do not give in...GO GO GO...
It's only a matter of time and dedication, You will love yourself more, you will be happier, you will be looking at yourself in the mirror, and saying..."O la la...LOOK at that!!!"
Be brave and train hard! Mostly eat right...
It can be so much fun as you want it to be!

Thank you very much for the welcome and well wishes, Velvet, Bunny, Ilk, and Sassy!!

I'll take your excellent advice, The Shadow and defer the fat burners so I can concentrate on diet and exercise. Thank you.

Check up on you soon...I am a mortal!!!:lmao:

Hello LuLu!
I am here trying to get away from the board and trying really hard to go to park and do HITT, It's hazy outside, a little cool for me, I am still sleppy coffee is hot, Kids are ZZzzzzz, I can hear an owl, no cars...perfect scenario to go back to bed, and forget workout....
Well NOOOOOOOOOOOO, I will be getting up, and enjoying the 20 minute warm up jog, doing the HITT, even if I huff and puff, but IT will be over in an hour....and diet will be clean, because my mind works that way...You worked now keep it goal oriented...
If I do not go, I'd probably bread, or junk...PLUS the whole day I'd be calling myself a loser...
Ay ay ay...mejor me voy...(better leave)
I hope you have a nice day and do not by any means stray away from your goal!
If you do...you come back and grab it!

Hi Ilk and Florencia! I hope you gals are enjoying the weekend, as well :). Your posts are great motivators!!!

I started The Shadow Project this morning by doing 45 minutes on the treadmill. I will post my diet tonight after I get it logged in on FitDay.

I live in the mountains, so access to a gym is prohibitive. I do have my TotalGym and a barbell with weights. Right now I'm going down the list of leg exercises (for Monday) to see what Total Gym exercises would be comparable. I'm not sure what a 'hack' is but I'll get on the search for it:D.

I am posting three pics (back, side, legs). I couldn't bring myself to post my abs as they are a mess and I think it's too early in our relationship to have the forum crying for deliverance from the image. I will save it for the future and post it alongside my progress pic.

So far, so good...I can hardly wait to see if there is any difference at the end of week one:).

You guys are great company!

Mountains?? Where, if I may ask?

Good hiking thru mountains....good workout!

HAPPY MONDAY LULU!!! :twirl:

As long as you're doing the day to day plan with the project.. You're already on your way to success.. Don't be embarrassed to send pics.. We can give you feedback on what to work on and give you workout ideas for specific areas..

Have a happy, positive attitude with every workout.. Happy people plan actions, They don't plan results.. ;)

I think I was referencing the wrong gif when I looked up 'stiff-dead lifts'...I was thinking I needed some little dumbells for it. I'll take another lookie so I execute them right. Thanks Florencia! :)

I don't know exactly *how* much weight I was lifting as I was using the Total Gym for three of the Chest exercises. You're lifting a percentage of your bodyweight based on the placement of the pin in the machine (I have it on the 3rd from the bottom) I don't have a reference sheet but am waiting for an email from their website with the approriate chart so I can figure it out.

I didn't get to the Pilates. I looked up a website of free exercise guides http://www.easyvigour.net.nz/fitness/h_Free_Pilates_Exercises.htm. There were so many Beginner Exercises that I wasn't sure what I needed to do, so I'll quiry The Shadow.

It's supposed to be in the ninties here today but there's a possibility of ****SNOW***** late Sunday night (that's the Black Hills for ya)

Happy health to you all and have some fun today!

Good Morning, Florencia! I do like legs day, too...now, I have to force myself to LOVE abs days :D

I've been having probs loading the pages here with a slew of errors so didn't get my schedule posted:(

Anywho, just finished up the second week of Shadow's program. I'm thinking of adding an extra cardio (moderate) session a few times per week, at night. I have noticed a dif in my back..a little more defined (yay). I actually think I lost some fat on my butt because there's a little saggy skin, which is worrisome. (hope it tightens up)

I think I may be able to afford some Yohimburn in the next month. I heard there was a coupon, could someone link me to the thread, please?. Thanks :)

I hope everyone's Sunday is relaxing and enjoyable!

:) Have a bright weekend, everyone!

Hi Lulu!
I think the 45 minutes is good I try not to do over 45, that means I am doing something wrong...taking too much rest maybe, but that's for me...
I am glad you are doing good...It's a great way of life isn't it?
I pigged out yesterday..4 enchiladas...as I was eating the first one it was good...second was ok...third...i wanted to barf, fourth...thought t was my last chance and ate 3/4 of it wishing I had not ordered it...
I did HITT yesterday and will not do cardio today, because I can see, @ss losing the muscle....
BUT I had to eat like if I had was held at gun point...Who undestands thissss???

Hey Flor!

It is amazing the way you feel after a good, and hopefully, well executed routine.

I saw your HIIT pace on your thread..wonderful! Sorry about the third and fourth enchilada :D. I get what you're saying about having to force yourself to eat. You know, intellectually, what your body needs in order to do what you want it to do. Me, I tend to scarf up whatever's in front of me...LOL

Have a great, relaxing day!!!!

I'm a happy girl today!:)

I scraped some cash together and ordered some Yohimburn!!!! I also found out that my dermatologist's microdermabrasion and v-beam treatment is going to be almost HALF the cost I was budgeting for. Happy, happy, happy, LOL

YAY!!!!!! You will love Yohimburn!!!!

I love microdermabrasin too.. But it shouldn't be long term.. Only do it as a treatment for only 6/7 weeks.. It really thins the skin and you need SPF30 or higher to keep your skin protected! Do not leave the house without SPF.. You wouldn't leave the house without underwear would you?? (well depends on the situation.. LOL)

Anyway HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!!!!

LOL, Ilk!

Thanks for the advice on duration. I was wondering that myself, I assume there's is a minimum recovery time before the next session...I saw an episode on someone's breast surgery and an, almost, fatal mistake of too many surgeries without enough recovery time between, left her deformed.

Yep, I always wear sunblock. Thanks so much, again, for the great advice, Ilk!:)

Hello LuLu!!!
I see you've got it togeher just great! I hope you do not fall into arut like I just did...layed off a bit, not leaving all exercise...but off weights fpr a while.
i am happy to report to you, that I am back in training and with a definite goal in mind...
LOL..same old one but now even more...LOL...
I hope you have agreat weekend too!

I'm glad you ladies all realize it's about tweaking these programs to fit you, your goals, needs, schedules, lifestyles, etc. Nice job!

GREAT pics!! :google: Looking very very good.....

And I agree with Buns - the Shadow plan has a lot of "wiggle room" IMO for food variety - so you don't have to get bored......

 You're the best, Bunny! You're so right about tailoring a program, I was feeling a wee bit of a failure because I wasn't perfect on it, but this program allows for deference without feeling like ya need to 'start all over' .

And I agree with Buns - the Shadow plan has a lot of "wiggle room" IMO for food variety - so you don't have to get bored......

Always remember striving for perfection is not always a bad thing IMO, it's just WHOSE IDEA of perfection are you striving for... yours? others? etc...of course while being realistic... I’m going to flub up this quote but I heard on the radio the other day someone say Never compare your lawn to your neighbors… Never should the color of his grass determine the value of yours…

Does that make sense?

I think some people slam the quest for perfection b/c it takes a turn into an unhealthy form of body dysmorphia, obsessive behavior or even throwing in the towel b/c you feel you failed. I always have learned from these types of experiences because 9 times out of 10 I can recognize it & correct that behavior. Okay MAYBE 8 x out of 10, but I’m working on it. GUILTY! I wouldn’t have learned as much as I have in such a short period of time (about my body) if I didn’t experience these things, and I am more than willing to share my adventures with you all here. Sure I was forced to ‘pay attention’ in a way but ever before everything happened I always felt in tune with myself, a little TOO in tune it did make others worry. :D

Sassy always says 'everything is relative' ... It's important to remember what works for someone may be a little or a lot different than what works for you, but going through these self-test-trial-n-error phases only helps YOU figure out your body THAT much better.

/end thread jack...

Glad you're here Lulu..

Everthing Bunny says is amazing! I totally agree with you Lulu!!

I had to laugh at that... My neighbor's wife comes over and says, "all my husband does it talk about your grass and how it makes our's look bad." She laughs..

I love having the dark green lawn...

I know totally not the point you were trying to make just thought it was funny.

Nice ab picture, and butt picture!!

Keep up the great work

Good Morning beautiful ladies, Ilk and Treilin! Yep, Treil, I was reading all the great logs here and forgot to update.

I really need to get a more exciting life so I have some better ancedotes to post...:D.

Have a great day, all you EF girlies!

Good Morning, everyone!

I know there are no stupid questions, but I've got a borderline one:D. Is it normal for my cardio endurance to start lagging? I'm assuming it might be because I started weightlifting. I used to be able to do the treadmill, (on my off HIIT days) for 45 minutes, now I'm sweating up a storm after 30.

Thanks again for all your help!

Thank you kindly, Sir.:) I will continue towards my goals and I can thank this wonderful forum for the great access and encouragement.

Cardio lagging UGH I know that drill... I think mine was due to slow/fast twitch muscle fibers in the beginning.. From all the explosive training & sprinting I think my fast twitch took over.

These days it's from all the time off and lack of cardio. grr.

Thanks for the heads up, Bunny.:) I think I need to do some research on muscle use in relation to this explosive training.

Morning ladies!

I thought I'd post a little about my vocation. I am a visual artist (painter, stained glass, puppets, animation) currently working on my own old-school, cel animation, a re-interpretation of the Myth of Persephone.

I've also started to give live action script writing a shot. I have one script completed and registered and am working on a second. A film forum I belong to is having a 10 minute script competition and I thought I'd enter. I've got some loglines and wondered if you wouldn't mind reading them and forwarding an opinion on what would interest you as a viewer? They are written with a full length in mind, but I should be able to edit for a teaser feel.

I like this one

A stroke victim needs the help of Jack Pine Gypsies to herd his only friends, wild mustangs, from Statusphere Bowl before a methane mining company releases toxic water into the basin.
I think this one could be a bit more catchy written another way. I'm not a writer...

A methane mining company is about to release toxic water into the basin of
Statusphere Bowl, will Jack Pine Gypsies help a stroke victim herd his only friends, wild mustangs, in time? Or will the lethal liquid devour them all?

I'm not sure if you are trying to make someone want to think they have to come see this play/read a book... but catchy lines and cliff hangers work well on me... ;)

I really appreciate you reading my loglines, Treil.:rose: I'm glad you like the girl and transistor tv one, that's my favorite, too.

Also, great improvement you made on the mining company logline....I'm gonna change it. I am trying to submit something that the judges will forward into the filmmaking competition so you're right, it needs to be VERY catchy. Tankyyyyyyyyyyy:D

Well, I'm a big slob....and I blame it all on Thanksgiving and the trimmings, starting with a tin of sugared candy fruit slices.:D

On a good note, I just got my Marcy bench delivered....finally, I can do proper leg extensions and curls!

How did you come up with those ideas for the scripts? Pretty creative Lulu.

Glad you enjoyed Tday :) Yay new toys!!

Are you freezing @ the mountains? keep layers of clothing and avoid that sugar...when you crave something sweet....JUST lick your finger... sugar!!!LOL

Great advice, Flor! Last week was pretty cold...some single digits fahrenheit, right now-a BALMY 38 degrees F:D.

On a sadder note...my mom just called to inform me that a distant cousin (third) has been killed in Iraq. He was only 22 years old and was, apparently, killed by a roadside bomb...we have no further news other than they think other Minnesotans were killed from his company. I had never meet Bryan but it's very sad to think his life was cut short. Please keep him, along with all our troops, in your prayers. Thank you, Ladies.

Sorry to hear that Lulu!!

Awww... Such a shame...

Thoughts are with you...

I am sorry to hear..So many lives hurt by war...Lets keep being friendly here...at least there will be one place free of violence..EF women's forum!!!

Lulu, I am so sorry for your loss. Even though you never met him he was still your family and that's all that matters. Too many young men and women have lost their lives over here and their families are left alone to put the pieces of their lives back together. I would like to ask all of you to just take a few minutes out of your day to please pray for all of the servicemembers serving here in Iraq. That simple act means more than anything.

I would have asked this in the shadow project sticky, but it's locked...and I didn't want to start a thread for this question: I have a friend who is vegan and I would like to know if Shadow's nutrition plan could be modified. I understand the protein requirement can be fulfilled with 'complete protein combos(?)' like beans and rice. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:) Thanks again!
