Low sodium diet?

*Bunny* said:
Watch the D-root though as well if you start using that this summer... as Shadow says, every day is a kidney day... I will be running that pre comp. Let me know if you decie to try it this summer.

PF, I bet cutting those coldcuts out will make a difference :)

D-root is tough on the kidneys? Also if im using D-root and consuming low carb/sodium... do I want to keep water intake high? Also, what about if im NOT taking d-root?

When you use droot yes you want to keep you water intake high, if not higher, Id have to take a look at what you were drinking at THAT time come summer...

Watch the sodium level with high water consumption... maybe keep Gatorade on hand to sip for the electrolytes :)

A little kidney edumahkation here

You might run your regular diet thru a food counts program like fitday.com to get a real accounting of just how much sodium you consume. The easy answer is stay away from any food that is processed. That includes the cold cuts.

I'm curious how it works for you to stay on a low carb diet all the time - what is "low carb"? That can also leave you flat all the time if you aren't getting a good refeed at least once/ week. You might consider a carb cycle approach where you get a couple of days to clear out the bloat but then refeed so you aren't flat. Flat can look squishy on some people.

Also you might consider looking to see if any of the foods you are eating are estrogenic? Wheats and stuff like that? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe you have higher estrogen levels that helps promote the bloat a little? I dunno just fishing here. Have you looked at AIFM or any of that stuff?

I am currently using AIFM. I do eat wheats and lots of carbs -- but only I on days I am active. I always try to keep carbs = activity level. Could you elaborate on estrogenic carbs? Ive never heard of that (besides soy -- but thats actually protein).

Bunny, I usually drink 1-2 gallons/day of water. Two, usually only on days I am active. One gallon on "normal" sedentary days. I assume that is fairly HIGH so what should my target sodium level be... as well as potassium. I could try for < 1g sodium... is that too little? For potassium, im taking a few 100mg'ers a day... incorporating some fruit & nuts in as well as what evers in meat, milk, etc...

You are probably getting enough sodium & potas with a clean healthy diet. I just like to make sure I do not limit my sodium when I drink 2 G's of water a day. I also love sea salt and drink plenty of water sodium has yet to be a problem for me :)

Yea, its probably fairly fine for me as well. I just noticed that when I started getting more potassium - my stomach got much flatter, and more vascularity in abs/arms.

I just wanted to keep this phenomenon going as I assume it was from the electrolyte balance changes. I also added in creatine (CEE) at this time which I assume would've had the opposite effect... but didn't.

Honestly, I don't think sodium is such a big deal, especially if you are lean to begin with. Personally, I would forget about sodium and focus on losing fat - a little extra sodium won't smooth you out drastically. Fat will.
