Losing product during filtration

I don't understand this.

I follow the calculators and when I'm done with the raw stuff, it actually is (or really close) to 50ml. After filtering though I'm left with somewhere around 40ml. Can someone explain this?

By the way, I always omit 5ml or so of oil from the recipe and then add that in to the filter last--so I at least hopefully get most of the gear.

Any help is appreciated.

you either didnt do the calculations right or have a leak or something. matter does not just disappear.
