Lifting for Work?

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
I have heard of people lifting for specific sports like football, soccer, powerlifting, strongman, etc...

What about a post for people who lift for work: construction, police officer, security guard, gas attendant.

Yeah...a gas attendant...how would you set up a lifting routine for a gas attendent? Full service with a car wash!!!

This could be good..

I have a maintenance job, I could never rely on that for exercise.
If I didn't work out I would look like all the other Fat-bodies in the shop! So I don't lift for my occupation, but one reason I train is because of it!

I am currently training for my next job. Does that count? I currently am the IT manager for International Programs at a major university but am finishing a degree in Law and Society there at the same time. I hope to move into federal or state law enforcement next summer after I graduate. I am lifting for fitness, strength and physique in that order. I want to be the best at the agility tests, able to hold my own in a scuffle and fill out that uniform (or black suit :D ).

You'll remember that I'm one of those twits that do HIT training and HIIT cardio. Works for me.

Goals: Get to 220 by graduation (currently 240), Get the position I am interviewing for Friday and then take care of business.

I'm a social worker that works with violent kids, being big and strong at work is a must for me!

I train mostly for fighting, but I plan on going into law enforcement after a few years of working in executive protection. So, lifting helps a bunch for work.:D

I lift for my computer programming job. Strongest fingers in the U.S. baby.

-Warik

Warik,
That's funny, I'm also a computer programmer (part time while I'm going to school). Didn't think there were many lifters+programmers out there. :)

One more computer scientist--though currently still searching for a job. One advantage is that when you're around a bunch of guys who live on Twinkies and Jolt Cola, sleep 4 hours a night, and have only just enough muscle to depress the keys on the keyboard, an average looking guy like me suddenly looks like a god. And you get to do things like say "Oh, so you don't like my coding style?" while menacingly flexing your pecs.

im a scaffold erector alot of climbing and heavy lifting and odd lifting involved....................hmmmm ok now its time for you guys to talk shit about me now:moon:

Blood&Iron,

LOL! Thats awesome. People ask me what I'm majoring in and they expect something stupid because they expect me to be a football player. Love there reaction when I tell them computer science. :)

6ft6, did you happen to notice how you kept your post modest but didn't get flamed, 2+2=..........?

Computer networking+security still student trying to hit an internship now that I finished ccnp as I work up still.

Best part is that I can bring my 21" to lan parties, too big and inconvenient bah! grow some muscle.

Alot of guys there actually bring 17"ers because they say there other monitors are to heavy and big to be toting around bwahaha.

Only 2 types of people at those parties extremely skinny and extrememely drunk.

I figure with my tire flipping...if this college thing fails...I can always go to work for a farm supply store. What about a rock quarry? With the stone flipping?

Still looking for a good workout program to help a gas attendant though...maybe lots of grip and forearm work?

B True

I couldn't imagine any workout program that would cause any significant performance increase for a gas station attendant. Even with a super strong grip, the gas will only come out so fast... :)

i dont need to train for work........i get enough of a work out as it is.

I work in a service deli.......but i never get to serve.

im out the back all the time in the freezers/ cool rooms unloading deliveries.

just yesterday i clean and jerked over 120 24kg tubs of chicken.(we dont go through that many tubs.....its just the way the place is designed....you have to restack and restack)

it starts out pretty easy then gets harder and harder once the stacks get over head.

i get a good warm up though, meats are usually delivered first, with average box weight being 12kgs and average load being 15-150 cartons.....but coming to christmas they get up too 250

another fun part of the job is pallet stacking. usually there is no one around to help........so its a personal challange to see how high you can get on your own. if there is someone else around we usually have form contests.......involving a gorrila press of the pallet and a flip onto the top

I'm a firefighter and I use basic compound movements for strength. I use low reps and heavy weight reps around 8-4 for upper body. Lower body I do higher reps 20-8. I really bust my ass on legs because when we have on alll our gear, going up and down stairs your legs really fatigue climbing ladders will kick your ass too. Design your training are your primary job function. and why does someone at a gas station need to be strong???????
