Leg size and its relationship to your arm size.

I have heard that training your legs helps your arms get bigger. This is very interesting because my legs grow explosively and I also have large arms.

I haven't trained my legs for a long time because if I do they just get huge and out of proportion with my upper body. My other large body part is my triceps which I never train either.

My arms do get a workout when I do chest, back, etc. I train my biceps directly, but never my triceps which would end up looking huge and out of proportion if I did tricep specific exercises.

What is behind this, and is there any body part that is related to making my chest grow faster? My chest is my slowest growing body part. I want to stay in proportion which means holding back other body parts so that my chest keeps up.

Some shoulder exercises hit your upper chest.... The best exercises for overall body development are squats, deadlifts, and (I've heard) hand cleans.... Other than that ... I don't know

Sounds a lot like me, my chest looks ok I guess but is weak. My legs grow like weeds and my tri's do as well. I made the mistake at one time of not directly training my bi's/tri's following a hit type routine. Now I have a lot of catching up to do. Im not ever gonna compete so I could care less about symetry :)

This is my recommendation:

On chest day...take a set of dumbells over to the bench where you will be doing your barbell benches. Use a set of dumbells that you can do perfect form reps of butterflys for 12 reps......this is pre-exhaustion. Now quickly throw them down & knock out 6-8 reps of WIDE Grip bench's paying more attention to the eccentric movement. Your index finger should be on the little circle on the bar.....yup.......that's wide.....be carefull though & have a spotter. On your last rep of each set before you put the bar away.....hold the bar at complete Concentric......meaning away from your body for as long as you can......when your muscle dies.....the bar will come crashing toward you.....this is where your spotter comes in.....instruct him that on that last rep to put his arms under the bar so that the bar would fit snuggly into the pockets of his elbow area but not touching the bar. When you die.....and the bar comes crashing down......he catches it in that pocket.....he'll have better leverage that way. Don't do more than six sets.....your chest will feel like it will explode! No more than six sets.....then go eat. Give your body up to 5 mins between each set.....you'll need all the ATP you can muster. In that 5 mins......rest......don't pace........don't get psyched.......just watch the women walk around in their thongs.

Oh.....very important......thoroughly warm up your shoulders and chest before doing this.....& start with the max weight for 6-10 reps that you can do.......don't pyramid up......start at the top & go down.

Selfish bump......I think others should see this.....it really works.

There is a genetic blueprint that tells your system that a big top
doesn't work with pin sized legs. This is why working your whole body is necessary . Your chest is a genetic thing. I have an ok chest but have massive arms like yourself and the chest can't keep up. The reason the top bodybuilders make the grade is
because of their key genetics. Their proportions work very well.
I press the heaviest dumbbells in a pro gym and crunch my chest
without mercy and yet my arms are awesome and the chest is just ok. It sometimes happens this way.

I don't agree with that at all. What makes a Top Contender a Top Contender is their brain mostly. You could have some weak genetics & over come them by training properly.....that comes from using your resources properly. Case in point. Arnold.....everybody sees him as the genetic elite......but did you know that he had the biggest problem in the world getting his calves to grow? Most of his early pictures were of him with his lower legs hidden from camera. He overcame his genetic problem by training properly for that lagging part. Anybody can do it. If the arms are too strong for a good chest work out........the chest must be pre-exhausted prior to each set.

This is great info guys.

Storm Shadow, your advice is very similar to the advice given to me by a kinesiologist I went to about a week ago. The diferrence is that his advice cost me $45!

-----------------------------------------------------
He suggested I add a second chest day to my routine. He said the second routine should be with light weights and high reps to stimulate the growth of neurons in my chest.

Apparently my technique is 90% OK. I thought this might be the problem - perhaps I overuse my shoulders or something - but apparently not.

He said whenever I do any sort of incline or flat bench press I should pre-exhaust my chest with flies first and then go straight on to the bar with a spotter.

Dumbbells should be held in a V position to help me deactivate my shoulders and target the chest during the movement. He also said to try and push through with my little finger during pressing/pushing movements.

Apparently I hold the bar too high up my body, i.e. the top pf my chest, and I should hold it more at nipple level.

I should slow my movements down and try to pull my elbows together.
----------------------------------------

It seems this topic is of interest to others so any further advice is welcome.

My body is pretty much in balance. My chest is not majorly out of proportion because I have put so much effort into it and held other body parts back. My chest is at the small end of the "within balance" range. If it was smaller it would start to look out of proportion.

I have done a couple of chest only steroid cycles without spectacular results. Unfortunately if I focus in on my chest I just create more imbalances, i.e. the front of my shoulders gets too big.

You are entitled to disagree but the opinion was first stated
by Paul Borreson who was a PHd chemist and a professional
competing bodybuilder and an extensive researcher and writer on the subject of steroids and bodybuilding . The point I was making was that there are parts of your body which genetics promote and other parts which genetics relegate. Borreson stated that the top athletes are genetically gifted. Regardless of Arnold''s small shortcoming, it was his genetics ,as a whole, which put him in the super league. You can hardly refute the case that body parts are genetically promoted. It is a biological fact.
You can also not refute the fact that Dorian has above average genetics and you can do anything you like in the gym but you won't achieve his dimensions.
This guy who started the thread needs to know two things.
1. His chest may not be being trained right. 2. His chest may be being trained right but is genetically inferior to his arms.
Which was my point.

I still say it's garbage. I really don't give much credit to that elite status shit. Given the right situation, time, money, drugs, trainers, etc......many of the people on this board would be awesome contenders in time. All of the people you see up there had more than genetics on their side to get them their. Besides, superior genetics can be interpreted too many different ways. Exp. I think Lee La Brada, Bob Paris, & other bodies like that are more perfect looking than what you see now. Freak does not mean Genetically Superior! It's just freak.

Oh I forgot to mention.............THEY CAN SHOVE THOSE PHD'S UP THEIR FUCKING ASS......IT DON'T MEAN SHIT TO ME. There are Phds in History that have been lying to the world over WWII just so that they can sell books!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's all it's about.........selling books. You wouldn't believe how many PHD's of History I put to shame when I asked where the prove was of their claim......."oh...well......there is actually no proof...but more hearsay"........I say fuck you.....I see the proof that says you're a fucking liar to sell books! Don't be so naive when somebody flashes their PHd at you like it's a badge........
Badge? We don't need no stinking badge!!!!!!!

Everybody has a genetic predisposition.......I agree with you......does anybody know what their potential is? No.......because of environment........the majority sell themselves short & say they don't have the genetics for it.........fuck those PHD's........I say the majority of the people on this board alone are Superior. Just not the right place & time........& money of course.
