Laser Hair Removal

Has anyone on this board had Laser Hair Removal? If so, what part of the body? How many times did they have to do it? and what was the cost? This thread is not to be confused with "sharks with lasers" LOL

I heard that people did not like b/c have to go multiple times and ends up not 100% and every time you leave it is like you have a sever sunburn and is painful. Never had it done just heard about it. I am sticking to the Razor for now. lol

I almost bought an Advanced Laser Clinic franchise. I would recommend them. They make you go for 5 treatments to get the guarantee because that is what is really required to get rid of all the hair.

Hair has three stages of growth, and you must go get lasered during all 3 stages, and 2 times while the hair is in between stages (Total of 5 times). That is why it is not 100% when these places offer to do a 3 treatment program so they'll appear cheaper.

Also, the severe sunburn thing is a myth. THat will only happen if you go tanning before you go in for the treatment, which is something you shouldn't do. Go in for a consultation and they'll tell you all the things that you shouldn't do in order for everything to go smoothly. People used to get burned very badly when electrolysis was the method for hair removal. Your skin will be a little red but that's it.

It doesn't hurt that badly, it feels like getting popped by a little rubber band.

Works best on people with dark hair/light skin, but the technology is getting to where that won't be a problem.

*EDIT THe cost varies.. to do your back and shoulders $600-900 or so but whole body will be in the thousands.. mid thousands ($5-6,000)

Weigh this versus the cost of razors/wax and time savings forever and you have the answer as to whether it's worth it to you or not

good info, I am also very interested can you tell me more about the treatment, like how long does it take? if you have more hair is it more money? if you already shave must you let your hair grow all the way out?

ive been thinking about it too.........but what if the hairy chest becomes "in" again? then what will i do?
lol

My friend's dad owns it and performs laser hair removal. She told me you have to go 4 times, and each time there is just less hair growing. When I saw her she had it done on her armpits (and her vagina of course), and the hair on her armpits just fell out. Her dad charges around 300 or 400 a session, for 4 sessions. I think that is the price.

I'm interested in it as well. Here's my worry. Say I have it done, then do a few test cycles. Will I once again have hair on my chest.

well since where talking about hair removal......im white as a ghost right now! so when i shave it looks horrible...like lil zitz everywhere and all red....i used a mach3 , and nair and they both suck.....anysuggestions till before i start tanning?

Well then your new name will have to be Austin Powers. Yeah Baby

A girl I know had her face done for $400 it takes 3 sessions (for this Dr.) to get 80% of it. Maybe if she went 5 sessions it might get it all, who knows...

She went for 2 so far and loves the results. I think arms wer 800 and legs were 1600, not exactly sure. I`m just postive about the face because that`s all she`s having done.

That was for a woman though, I`m sure men will be more expensive.

I would love to buy one of those machines with a few friends and family. I have no idea how much they cost, but if they`re about 10k and you buy them with 5 people it`s worth it for $2000 to have zero hair. lol "Every Monday is Hair removal day at gonelifting`s house" lol I looked on`line but could`nt find prices for the lasers.

I had my back done 3 weeks ago and am going in Monday for another treatment. They are charging me 180.00 per session. The area Im having done is my back. It is less painful then waxing and no bumps and pimples afterwards. I plan on 3 sessions before I make a decission on how longterm it really is.

I had my first session last week. I pay $79 per session for my back and shoulders. Hurts in some places but not bad in others.

The prices I quoted above are for all 5 sessions total price.

Yep, they do nads too.. but I heard that does sting.

Look for places that use the Lightsheer Diode Laser, it's the best.

For the guy who wanted to buy his own machine they run about $120,000 if you buy it direct.. $130-140,000 at other places

*EDIT It takes anywhere from 15-60 minutes per session when you go in, depending on what area you're having done. The smell of burnt hair after you are done is normal so don't worry, and don't forget to shave the area BEFORE you go for treatment.

Laser is pretty damn painful in certain areas. I had my chest and abs done. It was very expensive. 750$ per treatment. I think I payed to much and it should be somewhere around 500$ per treatment. In order to have 80% of my hair removed I was told I would needed to have at minimum 8 treatments. After 2 treats I had a 10% reduction which is pretty shitty. There are many different types of lasers. Some take 1.5 hours to do chest and abs where as the one I had my treatments done with took 15 minutes. It all depends on the spot size of the laser. Laser hair removeal is not always perment. You hair can grow back after 3-4 years even after 5+ treatments. When you have a treatment you must shave 8 hours before. After the treatment you get a ton on red welts. It looks like a really really bad spotted sunburn, but it go away in about 36 hours. Then you must wait about 14-21 days for your hair to "shed". After this the hairs that were in the growth stage at the time of the treatment will be killed, which isn't very many at the first treatment. The rest of the hairs that were inactive will grow back in about 6-8 weeks. After 8 weeks you must go in for another treatment. Hair removeal is a complicated process, and not very straigh forward, and there is a lot of research that must must be done if you decide to do it. Do just go to the first place you can find and have it done. Do a lot of reading online and educate yourself about the type of laser, etc. There are some good forums that you can read, but I can;t remember the names.

The skill of the laser technician also comes into play with how much pain you will feel, as far as them knowing how many jules to put on the machine when they zap you, and the frequency that they cover certain areas, which in turn can minimize or maximize the amount of redness and swelling you experience afterwards.

Zap anyone with lightning under their skin enough times (which is what it is!) and they will get red bumps ;)

Beware, some states requires the laser technician to be a licensed nurse practicioner, while others just require you to send a person to the laser company for training. THese laws are changing and are still in the infancy stages. A lot of states are making the hair removal places hire nurse practitioners. You might think this is for your safety, but it is actually because the doctors are so pissed off at how much money the hair removal places are making they are lobbying to find anyway they can to increase the costs for them to operate.

On another note, yes, your suspicion that you paid too much is valid.

lol damn, that`s a lot of money. I was thinking they may come in a more "personal" size. Even $20,000-$30,000 would be feasible for a few people to buy together.

I believe there is a mini version you can buy for around $80,000!

Microdermabrasion machines are more in your price range.. $20-40k.. erase your wrinkles

They are the most reputable company in the business, with the most stores, (about 100), but they are still not nationwide so you'll have to check to see if they are in your area.

Looks good. Do you know the cost of this particular place? The before and after pics of the guy`s chest and back are crazy. lol

DO not buy the personal laser. I was told its power level is very low and it won't yield perment clearnance of hair. The hair may fall out but it will grow back every time.

yeah, the pics are gross huh? lol

The costs will vary from area to area, but they are competitive. If you pay for all 5 treatments at once, I believe the 5th one is Free, as opposed to paying every time you go in. That is one way to get the cost down. If you are going to get more than one area done at once, you may be able to negotiate a lower rate. I say you "may" be able to negotiate a lower rate because, depending on how new the clinic is there is a ramp-up phase where they are building a rolling clientele base and they have a lot of free time (meaning they aren't booked solid).

Ask how long the clinic has been in business. If less than 6-8 months, I'll bet you the owner will make you a deal. If longer than that though, they probably have their machines pretty well filled all day and the price is what it is at that point.

But I would say unequivocally if you are going to get your whole body done, you should be able to get a couple grand off what it would be to do each part separately, no matter where you go.

Also, you have to weigh the fact that they are the only place that will give you a 2-year no hair guarantee (tells you something that other places don't offer that.. maybe because.. if you don't go at least 5 times your hair will probably grow back!!! ;)

As an aside, I know the owner of one in Dallas and he is an oil/gas guy who is always wheeling and dealing. I can get him on the phone for you and we could get you a deal. I also know the guy who is taking over the one in Scottsdale, AZ very well. So I can help anyone who wants to get this done in those areas.

I`m in NY, its probably up there in cost...$$$ lol

NJ actually but I see a NY office. I`ll keep an eye on this. Like I said a friend had it done for $400 for 3 visits on her face and she`s happy. Thanks for all the info.

One other thing just came to mind. The business is seasonal, with the biggest business being in summer and the least business in winter, and it's a pretty drastic swing. prices will fluctuate on that timeline

I had laser hair removal, but gave up after the 2nd treatment. First, it does feel like a sunburn, not necessarily a bad one, but for a day or so after, your skin is sensitive. Cost is also prohibitive usually depends on the size of the area, but 700 - 900 a session, it can get expensive. There are no guarantees, that even if you have 5 treatments, that you will not have to have treatments in the future.

There is one place that offers a guarantee, meaning if you do have hair grow back in an area, they'll zap it again for free.

I don't know who is charging you guys $700-900 per session!!? Ridiculous. Unless you are doing full body.

This whole thing sounds great to me. I'd be interested in hearing what kind of a deal they would offer for a group discount. I'm from NY. I know there are others here from NY as well. I'm gonna have to make a call and find out.

It cost me 750 per treatment because the place I had it done at bought a new laser. The laser did my entire chest and abdomen in 15 minutes. normal lasers take 1.5 hours to do this I same area. But still it was a rip off. I didn;t shop around.
