ketosis>????

I have been doing no cardio (yet). I have lost almost 15lbs. in 4 weeks. That may or may not sound like much to you but the big results are in my waist size. I've gone from a 36 to a 34 that I have to wear a belt with. Two more weeks and a little cardio and I'll be buying some 32s'. Yeah It works and as far as I'm concerned it's fast. The first three days off carbs gave me terrible headaces though. Good Luck

Should I try ketosis, I dont want to lose weight, but just body fat. I'm at 14% now, I'm struggling to get it down to 10%.

Thanks.

My Keto diet consists of these foods, I don't have any order or rhyme or reason as to what to eat when, other than that I eat one of them about every 3 hours that I'm awak.

Boneless skinless grilled chicken breast.
Hamburger patties.
Pork chops.
Tuna fish (with Louisiana hot sauce).
Salad with Italian or ranch dressing full fat dressing has less carbs.
Bacon
Eggs
dill pickles
An excelent snack.
Take sliced turkey (cured like for sandwiches) use it like a tortilla put bacon cheese and real mayo in it roll it up and suck it down. It's goooood. If you can find some turkey slices large enough add some lettuce and tomato.

i supplement with fish oil caps and flax oil.

I do a 12 hour carb intake every 10 or 11 days... it seems to work for me... it can take 2 or 3 days to get into ketosis so I want to get the most of out of it before carbing and getting kicked out!

how much fat should be consumed a day if no carbs??? i'm really considering this very popular ketosis kraze. but wouldn't high fat intake contribute to cellulite????
you are still keeping sat fats to a minimum, though, right. (yeah, a searching i will go...) i like the 12 hr carb up idea every 10-12 days, as opposed to every weekend. i'm thinking. i'm thinking. maybe.

so 65% of total cals is from fat and the rest from protein. ok. but i'm still wondering about the fatty questions. i think it's called female cellulitical paranoia. <--- (i love that guy)

SWEETS, on a keto diet, most agree that you eat any kinds of fat, saturated, monounsaturated, poly...etc. Too many have the mindset (due to poor science and propaganda) that fat = fat. This may be true in the context of a moderate to high carb diet, but not in a low carb diet.

When carbs are reduced, the body alters its fuel consumption from glucose to fatty acids. Therefore, the majority of the fats that you ingest are also being burned as fuel as opposed to being stored as fat, as they would on a normal diet (normally fats have 97% efficiency of conversion to stored triglycerides). Along with the ingested fats, your body begins to liberate stored body fat, due to the fact that insulin levels are low now, and glucagon, cortisol, and norepinephrine are elevated.

So on a keto diet, one can eat lots of saturated fatty acids with out the worry of gaining fat...this does not mean that saturated fats are the prefered fats for health. I believe that the diet is much more healthy, and may even be more effective, if the saturated fats are kept to a minimum and monounsaturates and polyunsaturates are the predominate fats.

thanks for the info, cockdezl. so ketones are being burned first, then the stored fat.

BUT ... how can you guarantee that you're getting into the stored fat zone???? is that why you need to get those testing sticks???

and how many days should you be IN KETOSIS, before carbing up, for it to REALLLy be effective????

so i guess energy would be more likely to come from an eca, huh????? thanks :)

When I go on I low carb diet I lose weight like crazy(mostly water) but as soon as I start increasing my carbs I get so bloated. That sucks.

what I do is go without carbs to lose weight and then I start adding carbs ONLY before noon after I've reached the weight I want to be at .

It works pretty great at maintaining the weight I've lost

cozmo, so about how many carbs (average) do you consume before noon while on maintenance????? simple, complex, both?????? still crazy low #'s?????

I consume about 150 grams of carbs but only before noon.... usually fruit or bagel for breakfast...

NOTHING AFTER 12.....

keiko: thanks for the bodyopus site. good info. i'm in. but first i've gotta order the ketogenic diet by lyle mcdonald. amazon.com. i've heard great reviews on it.
i really want to learn as much about this diet as possible before jumping into it. don't wanna be messing with no fats, now. hey, and wouldn't eating so much protein get a little expensive.

I am reading a book by Bantam Books called "Protein Power" and it basically says you don't have to worry about the fat so much because it is self limiting if you restrict carbs. Most of the fats are used in conjunction with carbs, breading, frying stuff etc. THey state if you cut out most of the carbs then you wouldn't really want to eat the fat, i.e. eating butter alone, crisco, spoonfulls of lard right out of the bucket....gag! I see their point.

let me ask you guys a question.when you go into ketossis did you have body aches from hell? insomneia? my feet and legs hurt so friggin bad i had to stop.anyone else had bad experence besides the usual feeling like shit?

I did freak. I did not drink enough water and I got a urinary tract infection and started passing blood clots...along with really feeling really really bad. But I was just doing a diet and the only thing I had with it was an appetite suppressant. The guys around here can probably help you more.

As far as the acne, I had no acne probs. however, I'm 30 years old and my hormons have slowed way back since I was 19. As far as the sore legs, I would ventur to guess you are overtraining. Being on the keto diet your body don't get the carbs it needs to do serious bodybuilding. When you are bodybuilding you need pre and post workout carbs. Without these your muscles are slower to repair.

This is somewhat a theory not fact but here goes. You may want to supplement with glutamine to assist with recovery also for the acne try to replace some of the saturated fats with EFAs.

Does this theory sound right? Or am I just speaking where I shouldn't?

I think the acne comes with not drinking enough water.

Protein Power and its ilk make sense in theory, but a very low carb diet with no carb-up is not really practical for a serious BB'er and of course, just plain wrong for an endurancew athelete. Most of the folks who have success on a very low-carb diet are folks with a lot of weight to lose and not much exercise history.

i'm currently on a keto diet, it would work great if i wouldn't feel hungry all the time!!!!!

i don't know why, but i'm hungry the hole day, only a few minutes after having eaten a meal the hunger is gone, but then 20-30mins later i feel hungry again,.....

does anybody know how much protein one has to consume so that his body converts it to glucose?

THC--if you're on a ketonic diet and you're hungry--eat some protein or some fat. A tablespoon of peanut butter on low-carb crackers (Rykrisp, FinnCrisp, etc.) will work. Or can'o'tuna. The amount of protein depends on yor bodyweight, goals, etc. If you're not in ketosis, up your fat.

Freak--deep ketosis can cause insomnia. You might up your carbs a tiny, tiny bit. If your joints ache--fish oil caplets will help.

The reason for fat

The reason you need high fat in a CKD is- Where are you getting the rest of your cals? You figure taking in 150grams protein(very modest), maybe 30-50 grams carbs per day, that's only 800 cals/day. You NEED the fat. That's where the rest of your cals come from. Also eating more fat helps your body get into ketosis faster. Unless you're consuming all of your maintenance cals from protein, which is damn hard, you definitely need the fats. This may sound strange but I drink olive oil for my fat. 5-6 tbsp before 2 cans tuna or whenever I consume protein. Flaxseed oil, mayo, butter, peanut butter, any meat, whole eggs are all great. I havent read protein power Magda but I don't understand why they would say you don't need the fat.

when i did ketossis i did bodyopus,it is more for bodybuilding.i would go zero carbs for 7 days then do a 36 hr carb up taking in measured amount of carbs every 2 hrs, even getting up at night.had good results but like i said before i just had to many side effects from it.i now do a lowfat diet about 12 weeks for cutting up.btw if anyone has a problem with energy while doing ketossis mct oil helped me alot .

Oh they definitely wanted you to have fat. They just said not to worry about getting too much. You have to think, most of the country has been counting fat calories for years now and thinking "Hey! no fat! I can eat as much as I want!" They were just trying to break this way of thinking and letting people know if you did not consume too many carbohydrates then just naturally you would not overdo it on fat. You have to think about it, most people don't like fats that are not associated with carbos. The average person isn't going to break down in the middle of the night and sneak into the kitchen for a stick of butter :)

medium chain triglicerates (spell) it will is a oil that your body will burn as fuel, this will really help with energy especally w/ketossis.you can pick some up at gnc,or about any healthfood store.

Thanks freak, I definitely need that energy!

Switched, that is what they said. I was thinking about it and most of the carbs that I really liked had fats that I would not otherwise eat. I mean look at what you put butter, sour cream, what you eat that is fried (most is breaded). You would not use most of this stuff if you didn't have a carbo to put it on like bread, pasta, potato. You can have a very decent meal with a nice steak and some green vegetables or a salad if you leave off the bread, breading and potatoes (with the butter and sour cream!;) )

It has been proven in my maternal side of the family that low fat diets have harmed more than done good. When you cut down on fats you begin to cut out a lot of meat and eggs making your diet consisting of 60% of carbs or more. Now my mother and all her sisters that are living have adult onset diabetes. My uncle Frank does not have it but he never went on the low fat diet.
