and my point is do you wait to be shot at or do you defend yourself before being shot at? Yeah, I believe Kerry said that they were committing attrocities and that is what they were theire to do.
I never saw nor read any swift boat add. I just watched the taped hearings.
If you earn a silver start 2nd most highest decroation one can earn next to the medal of honor, you just don't come home and shit on your fellow servicemen.
So what the report came out after we secured Iraq so that the investigators could do their job. Great, the report also said that the weapons could probably have been shipped over to Iran or Syria to be hidden.
Hussein had ten plus years to comply with the UN. The UN is a worthless beauracratic waste land interested in lining their pockets and getting people killed.
The reason France, Germany and Russia were against enforcing the resolutions as we had to do, was because they were in cahoots with the UN in funneling money off to Sadam and receiving payments from him in exchange for trying to get the sanctions lifted and to prevent us from enforcing the law.
So we are unpopular because we had to do what the world failed to do. Enforce its own laws.
Why do you think Hitler had such a foot hold in Europe when he finally attacked England? Because the world turned a blind eye toward him and believed the crap he spit out.
Hitler attempted to get Mexico to attack us and they would have had we not intervened and intercepted the letters from Germany trying to get them to do so. Now suppose we just ignored that bit of intelligence and did nothing?
Pearl Harbor is a prime example of ignoring intelligence and saying it will never happen.
Hind sight is always 20/20. Better to err on the side of enforcing the laws already on the books as we did with the UN Sanctions or we can just live in fear until the day we are attacked and instead of winning, we will be fighting for our lives and people like you will be screaming at people like me saying "how could you let this happen?" My reply will be simple. "You wouldn't let me defend the country when it needed to be done. You took away my rights, you took away my military, you took away my guns, all in the name of freedom, political correctness and sensitivity to the screaming millions that were chanting death to America. Now that you have what you wanted deal with it on your own. Hope you dont' find yourself looking at the executioner"

Some people will argue that US Intel at the time pretty much knew a japanese attack was iminent and that that attack was "allowed" to happen to galvanize public support for entering WW2. Whether there's any truth to that I have no idea. Other more documented examples of bullshitting the public was the "Gulf of Tonkin" incident to garner public support for the Vietnam War and don't forget the "Mushroom cloud over a U.S. City if we don't invade Iraq" line used by the Bush Administration.
yes, all administrations will to some extent use scare tactics to hype up the seriousness of the situation to get support. With the intel at the time, I would have been concerned for the possibility of a dirty bomb being detonated in the US. May still happen.
At least now we know it shouldn't be coming directly with Iraqi support.
Now we have Korea, and Iran to worry about. But, I suppose we should just let Korea nuke the south or invade it and do nothing? What if our intelligence indicates that Korea can reach the west coast with a nuclear missile? Should we do nothing? What if we say the info is false and then we are attacked? What if we say it is true and we don't do anything because it might be wrong?
As a leader you do not have the luxury nor can you afford it to waffle on decisions such as defending the country. To do so will only result in failure.

Good point, Chesty. Better safe than sorry is basically what you're trying to say.
That is exactly what I am saying. Don't think for one minute that our enemies big or small wouldn't do exactly the same. Oh wait! They did 9/11, Dec 7 1941, the Lusitania, war of 1812, to name some.
Only this time the stakes are much higher.
