Just scheduled a blood test...

Just scheduled a full physical/checkup that comes with a full blood panel that will check my test and estrogen levels. How much blood do they draw out and is it painful? Will I feel weak and tired for the rest of the day?

You should bring some Softdrinks or sugery food with you as last time i had mine done i was weak, after fasting 12 hours youll need it

I did not fast for my blood panel and they only took 4 vacutainers worth of blood which are rather small, so you'll be fine unless you're a huge vag... even then you should be fine.

I've had up to 8 vacutainers taken at one test, and no problem, no light-head, or anything. I have a BIG appetite for breakfast, so I go for bloodwork early in the morning and eat immediately after. As far as if it hurts; no more than any other kind of blood test. It's only 1 needle, at least on all the tests I've had.

Muscle tissue biopsy: DIFFERENT STORY! That needle (I mean tent spike) hurts.

On the fasting, you will get all bad results if you were told to fast, and you didn't. It's a BIG issue! Whatever the test instructions say, do yourself a favor and go with it. And tell the truth when the lab tech asks exactly what/when you last ate. No coffee in the morning, and ask if you can take any meds you're on, or if you need to wait. I'm giving this tough answer because I screwed up once, and had to pay the $1200 all over again after the tests came back all SNAFU'd!

wait I need to fast before??? I am going at 10:15am friday morning, and wasnt told to do that. I scheduled a checkup and asked if i could get a blood test to check my test and estrogen levels and they said it comes with the full physical. Not once did they say I would need to fast for it though. Should I not eat breakfast until afterwards that morning?

You don't have to fast. Just go in like normal. Its not a big procedure and they don't take that much blood. You'll be good bro.

There are a few tests that involve fasting. I think you're not supposed to eat 8-10 hours before a comprehensive metabolic panel or a lipid panel with LDL/HDL.

I'm getting my bloodwork done this morning. Here's an exerpt from the emails they always send me:

Hi Brian,

Please find attached your follow up lab order form. Print it out and take it to the same LabCorp clinic as before.

Take your photo ID as well as the attached form with you to LabCorp.

To ensure accurate results, please follow the instructions below:

• Please fast for at least 8-10 hours prior to your scheduled blood draw.
• Avoid food high in salt and cholesterol 24 hours prior to your scheduled blood draw.
• Limit coffee, tea, or caffeinated soft drinks for 2 hours prior to your scheduled blood draw.
• Refrain from drinking alcohol beverages at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled blood draw.
• Get a good night’s sleep the night before your scheduled blood draw.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

They won't take enough blood for you to miss it.

Your doctor should have told you to fast or not, or check the lab sheet you have and it should indicate. I normally get 21-24 vials drawn during my blood panels, but they check the hormones and everything else I guess. I hate needles man, but honestly its not bad at all unless the nurse you get sucks hah....but they do comment everytime I go in "wow thats alot of blood"...

No worries bros, you guys pin yourselves all the time this is nothing! hah

I just called the doctor's office after reading through the replies in this thread. The receptionist on the phone said there is no rule on fasting, as long as I am not taking any cholesterol medication. So it seems like I can have my normal breakfast that morning and it shouldn't be a problem

another question: is there a specific test I need to ask for? I just said I needed a blood test so I can get my testosterone and estrogen levels checked and a basic lipid profile. They should understand that pretty clearly, wont they? I just want to make sure I dont leave there without getting the necessary tests I need to determine if I can start another cycle yet
