JJ instuctor wont support tournaments?

how do you know you have a lot of talent
seeing as your instructor wont let that be tested?

Dosent really matter till youre near or at the top of what the ppl in your school can do . You still suck compared to those around you . IMO there should really only be one or two guys at a school competing unless your attendance is like "Whoah" . Everyone else should be chasing those two guys , honestly .

Did you ask him what his reasoning may be? It is possible he has a very real reason. If he does not take the time to answer such a question, then he is hiding something and may not be the class you are really looking for either way good reason or bad.

Good instruction is hard to find . If hes a GREAT MAist , but has some butt-stupid reason for not playing along (they like Green M&Ms and he likes blue) , that dosent mean that he has nothing to teach you as far as MA are concerned .

It seems like he needs a "hug".
Look if you pay money to do something then you are a consumer rite.
you pay a fee to him to train you.(not to dictate what you can and cant do)
you want to do a tourny go pay and do well.
if he says ya cant do that then dude "PACK YA BAGS HIT THE SHOWERS"
you do not need to train with a person like that "NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY ARE" .

I teach jj in australia and if any of the guys that train under me want to go in a tourny or test there skill level with another person ill drive them there its the only way to see how you are improving .
If you loose to mr x and the next tourny you win against mr x then you have improved your game training with the same people wont do it .
Now if he is MACHADO he will know that they promote rolling with as many as you can to constantly test your abillity (not the style) thats where people get it wrong they think its about style sorry its not its about you on the mat.

just think if body builders dident test there limits we would have a world of small skinny people.

Just my view.

"no no i just take out the trash"

I was told yesterday that he wont support them because they didnt support the tournys that he put on a few years ago. And also he doesnt like people whom try to promote tournys in "his backyard".

Sounds like "if you wont play with me i wont play with you"
dude just maybe he needs to get out of his own way .
anyhoe dude just go and do well learn from it man.

My Ju Jitsu instuctor refuses to support hardley any local tournaments. Every time there is a tourny he gets mad if I say I want to enter it and says that hes not going to support it and he doesnt want his students supporting it either. He got pissed off at me tonight becuase I told another student about a tourny in May that is less than a mile from my home and the school. When I told him about it he didnt even know that there was going to be a tourny but told me the same thing and told me not to tell any one else about the tourny. He even said he is going to have it shut down before it happens? Whats up with that?

is this bjj or japanese ju jitsu?

cuz if its bjj, quit. infact i have no heard of a bjj instructor whose apposed to tournaments. all of carlson gracie's instructors have proven themselves time and time again in tournaments (mine alone has won 25 gold medals) ; pan ams, adcc, mundials, naga etc etc and the only reason they are instructors or move thru belts is because of their active participations in tournaments. competing and winning in tournaments like mundials and naga and ofcourse the coveted adcc are considered the ultimate symbol of the elite grappler- and i will give anything to win even my weight class in adcc (or to even be invited to compete). the whole history of wrestling, bjj, sambo, judo and sub wrestling (grappling in general) are based upon tournaments and tournaments and tournaments. by being the antithesis of the pride and principles set out by all the previous instructors grappling instructors before him- by not allowing you to compete, your instructor is quite simply fucking up the tradition. quit and join a better school- preferably one with an instructor who has a proven lineage from one of the gracies or their students (since every legit bjj instructor can be traced back to the gracies).

Step 1) Drive to another Respected School

Step 2) Pay the Mat Fee

Step 3) Train .

See you just got everything you would have gotten out of a Tournament and more , because not only will you get to Spar everyone in the room if youre lucky , theyll actually GIVE you their Points of View on what youre doing right and Wrong , and tell you THEIR ways of working around your Issues .

All for less than the price of an Entry Fee , to boot !

ok but you get one extra school that way instead of everyone that goes to a damned tournament
and it isn't the same as actually competing
