Is your squat ideally should be equal to your deadlift?

Is your squat ideally should be equal to your deadlift weight?

Mine are about the same - 325, 315. I just know that I saw some people on here whose deads' and squats' weights differ a lot. What do you think?

CCCP-

Kind of curious what you weigh.--

Its not set in stone, but it seems most heavier guys have a better squat than deadlift. I think it has somewhat to do with the midsection size and leverages helping tremendously in squats.

Also, do you pull and Sq in the same form(sumo or narrow)?.

Food for thought..

Eventually your squat seems to outpace your deadlift. There are probably several reasons why this happens. VDOP mentioned leverage and midsection size wich I think plays a part...the bigger your "belly" gets the more you squat and the less you deadlift. I also think that until they invent a deadlift suit that actually DOES something it will always be this way.

Right now, my deadlift is about 50-60 lbs heavier than my squat. This is likely due to technique, I deadlift heavy singles much more often than I squat them, but I think it's a highly individual subject- some people are built to have higher squats, and some are built to deadlift better. I think it's a highly individual thing.

Also, I do agree with the heavier people having more leverage... it just makes visual sense to me that a gut will give you better leverage with the squat and less in the deadlift.

The gear is a big factor with squats vs. deads. Right now, my best raw squat is about 500 and my best raw DL is 535. With gear, squat 550 range, dead 535. haha. I also notice that my squat suffers a lot when I lose weight, and thus, midsection size. I think that the body has a natural peak for deadlifting, while you can up the squat pretty much endlessly. I've been stuck at this dead weight for a few years now.
