Is there a max weight that an Olympic bar can handle?

I realize there are guys that squat 1000+ lbs.
They are certainly not doing it at the big commercial gym I go to. Nor do I think they are doing it on some cheap Olympic bar that I'm sure most big gyms would use to save money.

Assuming a cheap bar...what would be a safe poundage? Could I load it up with 600lbs or 700lbs and not worry about the end snapping off?

Most should be rated in the 700 - 800 pound range, at least. I know that there are some power bars rated for up to 1500 pounds.

yeah, the oly bar i own was super cheap. for the price of a good bar like the texas powerbar i can buy 4 or 5 of the one i'm using right now. the thing bends when i'm warming up, and when it came to me it was bent.

oh well, i see it as "chambered" :p
