Just wondering, my dad said he would workout up to 6 hours a day when he was my age, and he was huge! I can workout 7 days a week 2 hours a day and I don't overtrain. I still get good gains, not restless at night. So im starting to think its all determined from genetics

Over training is a term for when u train past your limits. Over training is different for everyone.
Dont forget you have your mom and grandparents genes also.
Also, you can build yourself up to withstand workouts like that.

signs of overtraining:

inflammation, joint pain

make sure you are getting in 5K a day of omega's.. it can be from oily fish, omega cage free eggs, 100% grassfed beef, olive oil, flax, and even shrimp! and you can always buy krill oil

if you start getting inflammation then back off

also like bliss said you need ample sleep. depending on the person but bodybuilders typically need 1-2 hours more than the avg person.

You see, I don't get any of that. I dont get 8 hours of sleep usually. My diet is not perfect, but it is almost impossible for me to overtrain

Not to sound like an ass. But imo you dont train hard enough if u can workout 7days 2h a day with a bad diet and not enough sleep. Or you are trainig very high rep.
You have to give an impact on your cns to get overtrained. Not only local muscle soerness

I train as hard as my body lets me honestly, everything I do is to failure. You can look at my workout log I train pretty hard.

i'll take your word for it, and agree for the most part with you and brownbrown...
ive done weeks on weeks on months of brutally long and heavy workouts... though im slowing down a lot with age...
i do think sometimes less is more, but only after you reach a certain point...
idk how new you are (ill look at your log next) to lifting, but it is much harder imo for someone newer to training to overtrain... this is probably opposite of what many think, but as the intensity and weight increases, you need more rest to recover...
when you are new and training to muscular failure, imo your CNS will give out last... it can take a beating, but once its beat it can take a while to recover...

Diet and sleep....I love soaking in a bath of Epsom salts when I'm done my workout

I think it is more based off your diet and sleep

I would 100% agree. If I'm well fed, 2 hours of cardio, 3 hour break, 2 hours of lifting and 30 more minutes of cardio are a breeze for me 5-6 days a week. Cut my calories and watch me struggle to finish 30 minutes of cardio and an hour of lifting 3 hours apart.
