Is it safe to do CKD while playing competitive Rugby?

Hi,

I would really appreciate an answer to this because I feel that my performance level on the field has been depleted due to a lack of energy.

On the other hand i desperately want to drop 40 lbs of fat from my body.

Help I don't know what to do?

TIA

tough, I was considering it

I am on CKD and rugby training officially starts next thurs. I will either drop the CKD or pospone training for a week or so.

After Day 2 of week 3 on the CKD I trained back (post-workout consumed egg/flax shake), then did sprint training...only did 100m x 10 and 40m x 20 (sprints and strides) and I have never felt weaker or more light headed in my life.

I couldn't imagine performing at top level while on CKD. Unless you are a back, then you really don't do much but watch your forwards win the game.

Although, I suspect due to the intensity of 2 hour rugby sessions you could consume quite a few carbs pre and post and still reach/maintain ketosis.

I think if you eat sensible and put 100% into your workouts you'll drop that---if you skip the Thur and Sat night piss-up.

I always drop 10 or 20 pound, even more during 7s.
Not so good for me as I am a hooker and prefer to be at 220+.

What Div are you playing? Where (no need to tell me the team).

Good Luck.

Just imagine scrumming down with NO CARBS in your head or muscles...

Nice to here from a fellow Rugby player.

I play for the Varsity Rugby team at the University of Toronto. Prop/Hooker.

I also weigh 220 lbs however would defineately like to drop more of the fat off my body. I guess I'm going to have to experiment a little.

Cheers

If you gentlemen are competeing at a very high level, and training very intensely, one thing you can do is. Modify your diet to something like a 3 day low carb one day high carb plan. This should keep your body burning fat, and one day of carbing along w/ intense training shouldn't keep you out of ketosis for to long.

One other point CKD's are notorious for electrloyte depletion. So if you guys are doing some intense aerobic work, stay well hydrated and watch your electrolyte intake.

the body needs glycogen and a moderate blood sugar level to operate at a high level. CKD gives you none of this. DO NOT DO A CKD while competing in a sport. save it for when you are dropping weight.
