Is It Ok To Train Abs 7 Days A Week?

Some experts say you should allow for rest with your abs. What is everybody's opinion, is it ok to train the abs 7 days a week?

I train my abs like any other bodypart, so no, I don't train them 7 days a week.

The only exception I can see to this is if you mean doing core exercises; ball shoulder presses, ball chest presses, etc.

BTY, you posted this 3 times.

abs are a muscle. training them more than say 2x a week is counter productive. these are muscles too and need the same kind of recovery. when training abs, you must use weights, not reps. you use your abs constantly throughout the day to lift up your own body weight. so what difference does it make if you do a 50 more reps with the same weight. you must use weights to build the muscles. this is the only way to get nice muscular block like abs.

abs

How can you do them everyday even if you wanted too. Try mixing exercises up constantly so your body doesn't get use to the exercises. You should be sore after you work your stomach.

I'd say...

train them 3x a week. That's what I do, and it seems to work (at least for me). 7x week is going to leave them overtrained and sore and you'll never get them to grow. Remember, muscles grow when you rest, not in the gym! That's when you damage them!

Abs are NOT like any other muscles...your abs oxygenate more easily, highly vascularized, making for faster recovery, ability to do work for a longer time...so you can train them more than other muscle groups...same goes for calves, and some other muscles I can't think of right now.

If you want scientific evidence of this...I can give it to you when I go back to school, I'm on spring break right now.

so bulldog, i've calves and abs not like other muscles are. how much do you need to train them? my thoughts are eod?

It's not a question of how often you NEED to train them, rather a question of how often you CAN train them. I'd say twice a week is good, and if you want...you can go three times per week without problems. Of course there are many theories, you just gotta find out what works best for you.

You *could* train abs seven times a week if you really wanted to. Is this the most effective way? NO! Training them that much will leave them overtrained, slightly distended, and even cause your mid-section to hold more water than necessary. With most clients, I recommend every four days. Alternating a weighted ab day (8-10 reps, 3 excercises, 2 sets) and a bodywieght resistance day (15-25 reps, 3 excercises, 2 sets. Believe me, this is ALL you will need to get a hard muscular and defined mid-section (with proper diet of course!)

Train abs 2x per week. Your abs will look like shit if you work on them 7 days a week. Think of all that wasted energy. If you have so much extra time on your hands go learn a language.

I think if you are lifting your abs 7 days a week you are def not training them hard enough. Unless your just doing crunches as cardio. If your trying to build them, treat them as any other muscle. They def need time to rest because of all the secondary training they get
